  • Cades Cove Loop in Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a vehicle free day on Wednesdays during the summer. I took advantage of this to bike Cades Cove in order to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery, view wildlife, and see the history of the Smoky Mountains. My favorite part of biking Cades Cove was the opportunity to see a mama black bear and her cubs, both the bear cubs and mom had no interest in us gathered around to watch the forage in the fields. In addition to the black bears and other wildlife in the smokies, Cades Cove also has a lot of history to offer, as it was originally a settlement before it became a national park. Along the road there are multiple stops where you can view old cabins, churches, and even an old grist mill. Biking, hiking, or even driving Cades Cove Loop Road is a great option for anyone looking for things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

My family was at Cades Cove one week later than you. We did a day hike past John Oliver's cabin onto the Rich Mountain Trail. Yep, traffic is dense around the loop, but after the cabin we saw 3 people over 3 hours of hiking. Visit your national parks they are our treasure.

I'll be back to hike Rich Mountain at some point! I was able to find a few trails in the area after this ride that didn't have many people, which was great. I love visiting National Parks, I'm working towards visiting them all but have a ways to go.

People needs to quit destroying the cabins in all parks . WHO CARES IF YOU WERE THERE . I think they need put cameras up and prosecute the people who don't have any regards for anything
