    This made me more hyped to apply to JET this year when it opens. Im from Los Angeles but I've lived in small towns like in semi-rural Alaska before, so I'm hoping for a rural placement in Hokkaido somewhere. I just have a question about the age of applicants. I know there is no age limit for JET (I don't think there is!) but how old are the oldest JETs you know and how was their experience like?

    I loved this video! It was so informative!! Does Hannah have a youtube, I'd love to see her journey in Korea! Would you recommend that applicants that can drive put that they can't to avoid getting placed in a super rural inaka? I am only asking because I have super severe asthma and I have asked to be placed as close to a hospital as possible. I feel like some inaka's would be so peaceful but the one that Hannah is describing sounds like my worst nightmare because of my asthma.

      Is there a medical part of the application that you can explain your situation on? I'm sure that's something they would take into consideration. As for the driving on the application thing, that was and still is pure speculation on my part. So your guess is as good as mine!

      I had a pocket wifi because setting up internet can be a real pain in Japan, and I wasn't sure how long I was going to stay. So like super handy, not super slow, but defo not high speed...
      As far as translation apps, you learn super quickly all the really basic Japanese you need to get by. Then it's just for things that could be out of the ordinary (like the time I lost my sim card...)
      But also your JTEs are sometimes the best for that, bc even if you speak fluent Japanese, some people panic because you're not Japanese. (like ordering everything in Japanese at McDonalds and the guy behind the counter saying "i don't understand english" 😂😂)

    • @jakubtansey716
      @jakubtansey716  4 года назад +1

      We didn't just become close friends overnight. We all had a night out in tokyo during the 2 day orientation, over time in our group chats it became obvious who we vibed with, and so on. You gotta remember that everyone's in the same position and all wanna make friends so you really just gotta talk to people at every opportunity and put yourself out there, add people on social media... But what really solidified our friendship was our trip to Seoul. As Hannah said, she just asked the group of they were keen, even though none of us were particularly 'close' friends at that point. If you're talking to people and willing to take the first step you'll be fine.

She is a very private asmr-tist on youtube, on her fifth year in the program, long brunette hair, big blue eyes, and a nose ring. She has been MIA on her channel for 9+ months (which isn't like her at all) and her listeners have been deeply worried about her!

    • @jakubtansey716
      @jakubtansey716  3 года назад

      I don't know about other programs, but with JET there is the option to put up to 3 preferred placements. However there are no guarantees and you have to be prepared to be placed anywhere. Having said that I think far fewer people request the countryside and you'd have a decent chance of being placed there if your application was geared towards that, in my opinion. But ultimately no, you can't specifically apply to be a countryside ALT with JET.
