I just read the book Michelle wrote - Crying in H-Mart. It blew me away and I cried many times as she talked about her mother dying of cancer. At the time I did not even know she had a band until she mentioned it at the end of the book. What an incredible woman!
@@frankfrank7921 I got into Japanese Breakfast this year and decided to read the book partly because of that, but had heard of the book independently before I knew the connection. It's not really like a music industry memoir or autobiography - it's very specifically about losing a parent and reconnecting with her culture through food. Details about her life and career are of course mentioned, but it all ties back into the core themes of the book. I could definitely see many people who have no interest in her music getting a lot out of the book.
I LOVE Michelle's voice. There are tons of female indie singers out there with that pitch perfect voice but Michelle is simply destined to sing. She has that uniqueness to her. Plus she's super talented musically and is a great person. What's not to love.
When i discovered this band it was one of the best days of my life honestly. The music is beautiful, that voice is impeccable im hearing all sorts of soul coming out of that voice
She’s very in control of every aspect on stage, yet they are very much a band - not a ‘star’ and a backing band. I like their vibe and I very much enjoy her interaction, on stage and with the crowd. It brings a great vibe.
Ok, that first song was incredible. Kind of had a Silversun Pickup vibe. Absolutely favorite ever. I'd also like to add the drummer has a great sound and harmonizing voice. Syncs really well with yours. New fan for life here!
A little bit of bjork, the sundays, the cranberries, & in a weird way, nikki lane (vocal wise). Good stuff. Drummer doesn't over do it and sings good backup.
I hope band reads this comment. Hearing your beautiful music for the first time. I feel like my ability to dream again is being unlocked as I listen. Sounds so fun and free without affectation. Amazingly explosive yet wholesome. True art and heart coming together. Thank you for the love.
ooooohhhhmy gooooooowwwwwd. i have listened to this babe for yearrrrazzz....she is amazing along w/ her band. thank you for helping to keep some of us alive.
Love this clip, in particular Diving Woman. Such a beautiful vibe within the band, so lovely to see. When we are all better, please come down to Aotearoa New Zealand ❤🌻
Credit the sound techs, the sound is immaculate. Heard an interview with Michelle on NPR a few days ago and thought I'd listen to some music as she's completely new to me. I dig it.
I am Japanese. I am Japanese Breakfast fan. They are evolving great. The vocalist and the others are great! Drums and guitar/keyboad are great. The vocalist’s guitar is nice! In this live Michelles’ cloth is lovely, ever.
I just discovered Japanese breakfast. The Fender Player Plus Sessions clip brought me here, and I've got to say it was a thrill to listen to their music. The bassline in Diving woman was candy to my ears, and Machinist sounded so good with that autotune. Those two tracks were my favorite in this performance. That's a great band, I wish them all the success...
I have been looping over this live video, as well as the Soft Sound album for over weeks, since when I first knew this band. This is so FUCKING AWESOME. I am not major in music so I cannot tell why I always feel there is magic in this band's works. It might be PURE genius and talent.
I'll also put something in my two languages about how awesome your music is written in many different languages. Қазақстаннан сәлем, сені де осында тыңдайды, керемет тобың бар, әрі керемет орындаушы қызсың! (Greetings from Kazakhstan, you are also listened to here, you have a cool group, and you are a great performer girl!)
Love they play Till Death in this kind of festival, because recently I read that James (one of my favourites bands) does not play Alaskan Pipeline (an incredible amazing calm and nuanced song) at festivals because they think that it does not go with the vibe of a festival environment. All love to you brekkies!
I recently stumbled across an interview with Ms. Zauner on NPR. What a wonderful (albeit late-to-the-party) discovery. This music is rich and wonderfully innovative. This is what plays in my office while I am thinking and writing!
You had to be there! Was a really hot day in Austin, Texas, but was a dreamy performance. This Cranberries' Dreams cover was just months after front woman Dolores O'Riordan died that same year in 2018 - emotional performance. Love you JBrekkie!
Just love this can't wait to catch Michelle live in the UK in Manchester October 2022 this being a sighter of her music and stage presence and personality! Exciting and delightful times.ahead😎😎
This was a STUNNING set. The Cranberries cover gave me chills, reminds me of when my brother brought back the CD when he was in college and we listened to it for the first time driving down a long stretch of highway. All the songs sounded fantastic, was nice to see Driving Woman and Machinist live.
I really love the music of Japanese breakfast and I know what she is going through. Our mother Ann staeheli died 10yrs ago and I miss her everyday. So I will pray for your mother as long as you pray for my mother please
Every once in a while she's really on key and it sounds so good. It's really hard, I know, especially live. I love this group. I do appreciate their effort and their great music.
Watching this because I’m obsessed with Jubilee, I was not expecting to see someone who also went to the Antoine’s performance here! Hope you had as much fun as I had
I just picked up Soft Sounds From Another Planet and I'm really liking what I'm hearing. I heard Michelle once say that she'd like the third Japanese Breakfast album to be a mix of Nine Inch Nails and Bjork, and I'm really hoping that happens! She already reminds me of a young Trent Reznor, I'd love to see JB go in a heavier direction. Michelle, if you ever somehow read this, go for it! I know you could pull it off!
Very nice. I have been studying modern alt rock, Female vocal driven pop and all manner of derivation. Michelle is a very special voice and with the right framing could be a strong contender for the next Brian Eno or something much more viable and viral than what's being sold these days as pertinent. Great potential. Lovely intentions. I've just discovered she's written a book that will top the bestsellers. Well done dear!

I found out about this band a couple of months back and it was such a surprise to learn it was actually her band 😄
If you didn't know her from her band then why, may I ask, did you read a memoir by someone you knew nothing about?
@@frankfrank7921 for me, it was part of book club list. Someone really wanted to read it
@@frankfrank7921 Sometimes people read books about people they don't know.

"The Body is a Blade" will forever be one of my favorite songs
Same here :)
When does it play ? Thanks.
So agree man, for me it's the best song that she ever made
Completely agree. Soft Sounds From Another Planet is right up there for me also.
it's got a lovely music video too
Diving woman is the best song ever. I listen to it every single day at least 20 times. I NEED to see this live I will die
sick of the song yet?
Still alive?

I mean this was probably the most underrated show I've ever been to, I'd pay $100 to see them again. Don't sleep on em
$100!? Was Ozzy there? Otherwise, fuck that.

Recently discovered her work, and it's nice to know her singing is just as beautiful live.
She doesn't need the auto-tune. I realize its a tool in her toolbox, but cringe when I hear it.
@@tvtitlechampion3238 I disagree! The last song is a killer with that autotune...
I hate it, shes so sqeaky and annoying tbh.
@@henrirobertdupont7116 Agreed! Vocal effects are a fun part of the live performance and add to the intensity when used correctly
that guitarist/synth player seems like such a jolly fellow.
That's Michelle's husband.
@@oliverseddon7950 I'd be happy as fuck too if I was married to her and got to play these bangers alongside her for a living lmao
I say shotgun, you say wedding yep that would be pretty sweet.

I’m totally agree your opinion! 👏👏👏😎👍
Michelle's voice sends me somewhere else. Japanese Breakfast in general sends me somewhere else.
You could say.......
they make soft sounds from another planet ;)
I'll see myself out

I was there listening to them for the first time ever and when Dreams came on, it was one of the most blissful moments of my life.
For some reason this Japanese Breakfast show is my favourite...
Hello Austin, we're Japanese Breakfast, we're from Philedelphia, and I'm Korean. ;)
I'm blown away by this band! I am so elated I found them this week..Michelle's voice is sublime.

I hear some pixies I think
Don't you dare compare this mess with The Sundays.
I love this band!! Sounds like 90' and feel the mood&vibe at that time.
I never heard sweet baby until recently, I thought it was from the 80s, I'm a metal guy that loves 80s new wave, Japanese breakfast fits in perfectly

No offense to Nashville, but Austin IS Music City! Of course they'd have ace sound guys. Running sound is an unsung talent.
First track was bloomin' brilliant. Landed here after the SNL tam-tam track. Outstanding.
creative style all around...she stays true to self
Never seen/heard of them before. A fan now
Wow, that was when you could simply go out and enjoy a great concert! Happy days...

Something about their music feels like it's reaching deep into my brain to pull a feeling I've never experienced
Wow, respect the crowd, nobody recording a videos with their phone or make instastories
