This is a a comprehensive breakdown/tutorial of the Ghanaian groove or beat called Adowa. Here I explain how to play it, and take you through the feel of the groove. On the second variation on what count do you insert the snare?

Its a 6/8 groove. So you start the snare pattern on the 3rd count.

The hi-hat starts on the 1 and follows its pattern as shown in the video. It will be difficult to place every single count of the hi-hat using counts. A better way I believe you can learn it is to memorize the pattern of the hi-hat then start on the 1 and it will be in sync every time. You can slow down the video to get a better understanding of the pattern. Cheers, player. All the best in your journey.
