I used to think the same thing. I'm sure it's just a culty mind virus type of thing. Not to mention the black makes you look like a seal from below. No wonder there are so many incidents of a shark coming up and having a bite for a little taste lol. I would be wearing neon for sure if I was in the water.
Rent, board, beer, weed, food, wet suit. That's the priority list for broke 20 year old's. Expensive special colored wet suits that your friends will relentlessly mock just aren't on the shopping list. Its a good idea though. I always wear a blaze orange t shirt when I go fishing, especially offshore. I'm too old and fat for backside vert snaps anymore.

In my OPINON..she wasn't ready for that session. Next season with more training she'll be killing it. Just like Keala Kennelly did. She took a beating, came back and made history.

I watched because I love to see the ladies performing in extremely testing situations. I'm just hoping the men's safety is not compromised. Will be following her progress with much respect.
I'm 70 now and had my share of wipeouts and the years have taken their toll on knees neck and shoulders, but Just knowing there are guys like these out there on the skis I would def paddle out there and gladly take risks....................well maybe not on a 50ft day but certainly big
Is there some kind of waterproof battery powered flare on the market? Surfers in this kind of surf should strap one to their wetsuit, or even a water dye release on a pull cord
You can tell from the wipeout this is poor judgement on her behalf taking on a wave way beyond her skill level. It's like an 18 year old going to fast on a motorcycle. We shouldn't applaud recklessness.
Great safety teams but a really good safety team should have had a discussion with her or whoever guardian is explaining her lack of experience in those conditions and the danger she is putting others in.
Huh? She surfs Jaws, was in the Eddie Aikau big wave contest at Waimea Bay, surfs macking Puerto Escondido, and has been a stand out at Mavericks for years, just for starters. Inexperienced? She is one of the most experienced big wave riders out there, knows what she is doing and knows the risks. She drives skis too, knows both sides of this scenario and is trusted and respected by her big wave riding peers.
That was not speed wobble, the wave bowled out in front of her and the wall steepened up quicker than she expected throwing her weight to her outside rail.
She got extremely lucky.. she needs to do more weight lifting and upper body so she can hold on to the ski. That Could Have Ended real bad for her I'm glad she's okay
Whatever whatever...she looks like a noob the way she fell off. The fact they are promoting a video about a wipe out rather than a record says it all. That's the only way for her to get attention.

Maverick has to be one of the most dangerous and challenging locations to surf. Cold, murky rocky unfriendly shore etc.
Respect to theses heroes that put themselves in harms way in order to make the sport safer.
