Here Be Barr Over the last 8 days in my city in Oz we have had zero new cases of coronavirus ,which means more businesses like cafes may be allowed to reopen with social distancing restrictions still in place.
Living in the suburbs of Chicago we don't do the noise but I don't know what it is like in Chicago. In Illinois, everyone needs to wear masks starting age 5 but my town changed it to age 2. Schools are closed but they're starting to reopen business and are looking to end the lockdown this summer.

I don't think people really understand what it means to be a New Yorker. We live, we love, we laugh, and we survive. No other state in the country has gotten hit so hard, so many times yet still we rise. It is the great sense of community that sets us apart from everyone else.

I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Every night at 7pm all we can hear is cheering and clapping for our front line workers. Police, Fire and any available EMS staff participate daily by doing a 7pm drive by salute at a different location everyday. Yesterday they went through a local grocery store parking lot to salute the store employees. It has really brought a sense of community to our city that I don't think was ever there before. Our roads aren't as busy and by 5pm its pretty quiet. They have reduced sailings on our ferry routes on and off the Island, schools are closed, playgrounds are closed and by 8pm pretty much the town is inside for the night.
There are so many fewer people walking around, that was a clever way to do the coffee shop and the bar scene. In California, everyone is wearing a mask out and about.
Here in Hong Kong we don’t clap for healthcare professionals. They would prefer us staying home and not going out instead of clapping for them. Also the people who initiated clapping are not interested in helping the medical professionals out but their own political agenda. It’s complicated. Thanks to the great effort made by our medical professionals and center of health protection (the CDC of Hong Kong) to track every single confirmed cases and quarantine all potential patients, we have a 5 consecutive days of no new cases and we are slowly going back to work. Our restaurants didn’t close but with capacity restrictions and we have a restriction of only 4 people gathering. Those are still in place. And of course we all started wearing masks since late January. All shops and public transportation require people to wear masks.
We dont go outside just standing around beside one another. Our homes our spread out and we have virtually no homes stacked ontop of one another so walking outside on your porch and seeing your neighbors across the street both ringing bells gives everyone a sense that we are not alone
4:30 is how it's always been here in Austria!! 😂 I've never seen cashiers pack my groceries for me. They usually swipe all the groceries over the cash desk in what feels like warp speed, and then let them sit on a little platform next to them. If you do not throw them into your cart as quick as they stack them onto the platform, they'll get angry over you just dawdling about. It was like, a complete culture shock when I found out that cashiers in the U.S. actually pack the groceries for you!!
It's unbelievable to see how different NYC looks! Under different circumstances I would have loved it as I can't stand the Manhattan crowds but I lived in NY for a bit and sometimes I miss it terribly, so thank you for the update. As for across the pond.... I'm a key worker in the UK. Policy changes every week. Customers thank me for working when I'm posted on the door, and there is a lot of love going around for our healthcare system (NHS). We clap for key/essentials every thursday. It's somewhat bittersweet because people should have always been like this (i.e. not being dicks to frontline staff). Lockdown still in place but some cafe's are partially reopening, we chat to each-other at a distance or across gardens. Many police patrols, once counted 7 cars coming back home!
Jon, I was born in NYC now live in suburban Indianapolis. This time of year we would normally have a marathon run in town, arts festival and farmers market. The farmers market was open with social distancing of course, but even for a suburb its real quiet. Thank you for the great content on life in NYC.
Central Kentucky here. Thanks for your work. You’re videos helped tremendously when we visited at the beginning of March 2020 (yes, RIGHT before COVID-19!). We are a mostly rural state, but we ring bells at 10am for encouragement and light up our houses green in honor of those who have passed away from COVID-19. Keep up the great work, man!

I’m in Texas so not living in close quarters. I’m in Fort Worth. However, I have a sweet friend who goes on Facebook every evening in at 7:58 DST to sing God Bless America and we pray at 8 o clock til 8:01 for our country. Sometimes it is leaders, then medical workers, teachers and others. She is from Corsicana and is a professor at Navarro. Her students have performed inNYC. It is very special.
Vancouver, Canada also does the 7pm healthcare hero’s cheering. We bang pots and pans, clap, air horns etc. Masks are not required at all but many wear them. Our biggest thing is social distancing and hand washing/sanitizing. Our stores have limits to how many customers are allowed in at a time and extra staff are on hand to make sure people stay 6 ft apart. Essential businesses are open like grocery, liquor stores, coffee shops, restaurants to go and by delivery like Uber eats etc. People are encouraged to go outside for exercise but if they can stay home they are recommended to do so.
Every Thursday at 8pm #clapforcarers in the UK. Parks are open, you're allowed to meet someone else from another household, some retailers might be opening on 1st June! it's pretty chill in London! But I love that not bringing your baggage into the supermarkets... We should use that here!
In Rosario Argentina we clap at 9pm to help healthcare workers. There are also other times to make noise for different causes, like for the politicians to reduce their salaries, to complain about decisions made by judges and so on.
The clap for the NHS in UK occurs on Thursday at 8pm. A good majority of Londoners wear facemasks but elsewhere much less so particularly amongst men who regard it as unmanly and for Londoners.
Our Trader's Joe in Orange Connecticut is about a 45 minute wait. Some people, in the 1-way isles, seem unprepared and confused with their shopping list. It's like a traffic jam. The Whole Foods customers are more prepared with their lists. Traffic is @ 50%' which surprises me. Thanks for some reminiscing, NYC views!!
I just discovered your channel. It's almost 2 wks since you posted and I live in another area of the Manhattan. Everyone is still wearing masks and thankfully, there's no binge shopping due to fully stocked shelves. However, I do see children and toddlers wearing masks and that wasn't the case before; it adds another layer of sadness to this whole situation. My supermarket is small so social distancing is very challenging. The people who work there are super polite and I make it a point to say "thank you" and "take care of yourself". It must be emotionally exhausting for them doing this for over 2 months. Most of the diners are open and offering pickup/delivery service. Our favorite Thai restaurant is doing that as well. But there are a lot of closed businesses that I hope can reopen. Stay safe everyone.
In Germany we try to go in little steps back to normal life. Next week I start to work in my job as a hairdresser. I have to wear a mask the whole time, also my clients.
I live 15 miles outside of Frankfurt, Germany. People in some of the big cities in Germany like Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt applauded the first responders and health care workers at 8pm. Masks are mandatory if you want to go shopping or use public transportation. In my hometown of 15.000, 95% of the People wear Masks in stores, on the bus or train. Something like 20% wear them out on street. Love your content, the touristy stuff and the Covid-19 coverage!
here in Spain people go out to their terraces and balconies to clap at 8pm, some of them also play music. things here are starting to ease, kids up to 14 can go outside since last sunday, next sunday we will be able to go and do exercise and the government has ruled a decrease plan with 4 phases so hopefully we will recover a so called normal situation in late June. me myself I work at a retirement home and things are quite quiet compared to 3 weeks ago, but still we have to keep a lot of security measures so the elders don't get the virus. it's being a difficult situation but we see some light at the end of the tunnel. thanks for your content btw

We can not go out side with out a mask . I have not been out of the house since march 17th and nice to see. I live in a very small town in East Tennessee with a population of around 1200. Where I live, we drive everywhere. And, we don't make noise at 7 pm, it would be hard to hear because houses are so far apart. And, I love your videos Jon!

in Sydney Australia we don't clap but the media is thanking all of them on a regular basis ....there is no more peak hour in the traffic all the shops in most shopping complexes success Westfield are closed...the supermarkets and bottle shops are doing a roaring trade.. coffee shops sell coffee and food to go and some pubs a selling beer in bottles ...most people are practicing the social distancing ...in my company over 20000 employees have been stood down. thank you for your videos. there are fantastic

Hi from Yorkshire England we have our clap for the NHS Thursday night at 8pm we stand on our doorsteps or from Windows and chat across the street Our supermarkets are similar with the queues but not seeing many people wearing face masks here apart from some elderly people. We're all keeping to the social distancing rules and I haven't been able to see my son properly for 7 weeks. My son and husband are coming to NYC next April well hopefully if everything is okay 🙏 Stay safe sweetie ❤️

So interesting that you film the current situation and tell about it. Here in Germany the lock down is gradually being lifted. The shops under 800 square meters are now open again. Nevertheless, we are only allowed to meet with a second person - everything else will be severely punished. Everywhere the police drives around and checks. In the city, the parks and the woods. Keep me up to date with pleasure. We had booked a flight to NYC for September and are a bit sceptical if it will take place and if so how safe it will be... Best wishes and stay healthy!
Here in Berlin we have to wear masks since Monday (27.4.2020) in public transport and since Wednesday also in shops. More shops have opened here now, but people are mostly still at home. You can go out without having any reason all the time though. You are still only allowed to meet with one other person that doesn't live in your household at a time though. I personally was pretty impressed how fast people adapted the new rules. Today (Thursday) almost 90% of people wear masks when they have to. All the best to everyone around the world o/
As far as I know here in OZ we aren’t making noise for frontline workers. But some businesses are sending free meals to hospitals etc, and offering giveaways or discounts to them. Masks a defiantly seen more often, I started wearing a surgical mask to protect others sometime in February. I haven’t bothered with the N95 for my protection yet, but I have given some away to others who are more at risk. I purchased them several years ago so was not denying health works any. To be safer the Kiwi’s have done a better job of it NZ usually ahead of OZ.
I am here in Palm Springs, CA and EVERYBODY has facemasks on. They've been wearing them for about 3 weeks or more. Nobody is making a sound at 7pm or any other time as far as I know but we are indebted to our first responders!
Here in N. Florida we are encouraged to wear masks, but not mandatory. We are in phase 1 of reopening. And will go into phase 2 to reopen more come May 11th. Our beaches opened yesterday but tourist will not be allowed to vacation here for a few more weeks. My daughter and I love your page, learning all about what to do in NYC bc we had reservations to Manhattan June 6-13 for her college graduation. We are so bummed that we will not be able to go!!! In Vegas the strip is closed. All casinos closed. We walk our dogs at the park but bathrooms, playgrounds and sporting areas roped off. Grocery stores have one way aisles.
Singapore has done this twice! But not everyday haha...and about a week ago a local Singer-Songwriter organised a mass singing of our iconic national day song "Home". You can go google it, i think you'll find some exciting videos!

I had a my first trip to NY scheduled for March 21, and of course had to cancel. I will feel safe to reschedule after a vaccine is available. I also want to give Manhattan time to recover as I had planned to do most of the main sites.
Im in WV and things are starting to open back up, as long as we keep our numbers of positive cases low. Elective surgeries start up next week and our doctors offices and outpatient medical services (such as radiology) are opening their schedules again for routine studies.
In Australia we have our restrictions reduced, the stores are open, thou we all have to line up as only certain amount of people are allowed to go in, we don’t wear masks, we can travel up to 50k from our home.
In NYC too and every week in my neighborhood it gets louder and louder. few weeks back only from the east of my building there were people ringing, shouting etc but lately I hear it from east to west of the building so it's just all over, 7pm sharp. oh and the local supermarket still will let people use their grocery bags though I heard some supermarkets were now only using the plastic ones again so as not to have people bring their own, but not in my neighborhood it seems.
Look up ActionKid. He's a guy that walks specific areas for hour or so. He talks throughout, but its not annoying or anything like that. Its really surreal to see this happening to nyc. Sad actually.
was like this after 9/11 for a while but still not as long it feels like. I just remember how quiet everything was for a couple of weeks, no planes but military in the air space, people were quiet, streets weren't as crowded all the time. but this will go on way longer for sure.
I live in Dundee, Scotland. There isn't a lot of people who wear masks, but it has now been recommended by the first minister to wear a covering at least going into shops. A few DIY stores are open and Burger King etc are opening soon. I work in a non-essential home furnishings store but there are plans in place to social distance similar to supermarkets, we just have to wait til 7th of May to see what's happening with current lockdown to see if these stores will be reopened. I'm really nervous returning to work to be honest, it's an odd situation, hopefully we can all get a sense of normality soon. 🌈 I love your videos, I still hope to get to New York for my honeymoon 😊
My.neighborhood (Sheepshead Bay). Cherry Hill ( Formerly Lundys), Stop N Shop, and Silver Star ( A small supermarket). People have masks/face coverings on and keeping distance. All the stores are keeping their employees protected. They are wearing masks. Plastic protection is at Cashier and customer service. Yesterday at Stop N Shop i found hand sanitizer little bottles .Limit 2 $1,99 each ( $ 4.00) no problem. Be safe.

I live in a city about 2 hours east of Lexington, KY. We have been in lockdown since the third week of February. The grocery stores here are almost always empty by 6. We havent been hit hard by this virus in my area so far. We only have 9 cases in my county with 4 deaths. My city has alot of elderly who live in the community as well as in assisted living area. The strang thing here is, we have medical staff laid off here because the virus hasn't affected our area in an overwhelming way. We also have laid off nurses and doctors who are traveling to New York and New Jersey to help. I am thankful our governor here in ky has taken a stand and kept our state shut down and no travel orders in place. It's hard being a parent but we have a very high cancer rate and alot of our community has breathing issues in our elderly and children. Every morning at 10 am we ring our bells for those lost and the ones in the icu. We also light our houses with green. You are in our prayers and know that we here in ky our keeping you all there in our prayers.
Here in the Philippines we are required to wear a face mask and have a quarantine pass when we are going outside. Also there is a policy soon to be imposed that people 65 years old and up (senior citizens) cannot go out.
I live in Houston in the suburbs. Social distancing, mask wearing by many. Texas will begin to open up today. Restaurants and retail stores 25% capacity.
I'm finding your videos really interesting. New York is so different to when I was there last April. Lockdown in Scotland is similar: not so many masks, shops operate social distancing and have markings on the floor 6 feet apart and one-way arrows. We're on an island and you can only get on the ferries if you have a reason for work or healthcare. Every Thursday at 8pm our whole street is out making noise for the healthcare workers. I play the bagpipes so can easily make a lot of noise! 😂
Hi! Everyone tonight in my road was clapping on their doorsteps for UK Health Workers as is the weekly Thursday new tradition. I'm not wearing a mask outside, about 20% -30% of people in the suburbs of London are. I'm not sure why they are as not currently advised and also masks have hygiene issues when removing and disposing.

I’m in Texas so not living in close quarters. I’m in Fort Worth. However, I have a sweet friend who goes on Facebook every evening in at 7:58 DST to sing God Bless America and we pray at 8 o clock til 8:01 for our country. Sometimes it is leaders, then medical workers, teachers and others. She is from Corsicana and is a professor at Navarro. Her students have performed inNYC. It is very special.
Vancouver, Canada also does the 7pm healthcare hero’s cheering. We bang pots and pans, clap, air horns etc. Masks are not required at all but many wear them. Our biggest thing is social distancing and hand washing/sanitizing. Our stores have limits to how many customers are allowed in at a time and extra staff are on hand to make sure people stay 6 ft apart. Essential businesses are open like grocery, liquor stores, coffee shops, restaurants to go and by delivery like Uber eats etc. People are encouraged to go outside for exercise but if they can stay home they are recommended to do so.
Every Thursday at 8pm #clapforcarers in the UK. Parks are open, you're allowed to meet someone else from another household, some retailers might be opening on 1st June! it's pretty chill in London! But I love that not bringing your baggage into the supermarkets... We should use that here!
In Rosario Argentina we clap at 9pm to help healthcare workers. There are also other times to make noise for different causes, like for the politicians to reduce their salaries, to complain about decisions made by judges and so on.
The clap for the NHS in UK occurs on Thursday at 8pm. A good majority of Londoners wear facemasks but elsewhere much less so particularly amongst men who regard it as unmanly and for Londoners.

Our Trader's Joe in Orange Connecticut is about a 45 minute wait. Some people, in the 1-way isles, seem unprepared and confused with their shopping list. It's like a traffic jam. The Whole Foods customers are more prepared with their lists. Traffic is @ 50%' which surprises me.

I just discovered your channel. It's almost 2 wks since you posted and I live in another area of the Manhattan. Everyone is still wearing masks and thankfully, there's no binge shopping due to fully stocked shelves. However, I do see children and toddlers wearing masks and that wasn't the case before; it adds another layer of sadness to this whole situation. My supermarket is small so social distancing is very challenging. The people who work there are super polite and I make it a point to say "thank you" and "take care of yourself". It must be emotionally exhausting for them doing this for over 2 months. Most of the diners are open and offering pickup/delivery service. Our favorite Thai restaurant is doing that as well. But there are a lot of closed businesses that I hope can reopen. Stay safe everyone.

In Germany we try to go in little steps back to normal life. Next week I start to work in my job as a hairdresser. I have to wear a mask the whole time, also my clients.

I live 15 miles outside of Frankfurt, Germany. People in some of the big cities in Germany like Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt applauded the first responders and health care workers at 8pm. Masks are mandatory if you want to go shopping or use public transportation. In my hometown of 15.000, 95% of the People wear Masks in stores, on the bus or train. Something like 20% wear them out on street. Love your content, the touristy stuff and the Covid-19 coverage!

here in Spain people go out to their terraces and balconies to clap at 8pm, some of them also play music. things here are starting to ease, kids up to 14 can go outside since last sunday, next sunday we will be able to go and do exercise and the government has ruled a decrease plan with 4 phases so hopefully we will recover a so called normal situation in late June. me myself I work at a retirement home and things are quite quiet compared to 3 weeks ago, but still we have to keep a lot of security measures so the elders don't get the virus. it's being a difficult situation but we see some light at the end of the tunnel. thanks for your content btw

We can not go out side with out a mask . I have not been out of the house since march 17th and nice to see. That every one is cooperating with the situation and I hope that this virus is over soon .I. I live in a very small town in East Tennessee with a population of around 1200. Where I live, we drive everywhere. And, we don't make noise at 7 pm, it would be hard to hear because houses are so far apart.

in Sydney Australia we don't clap but the media is thanking all of them on a regular basis ....there is no more peak hour in the traffic all the shops in most shopping complexes success Westfield are closed...the supermarkets and bottle shops are doing a roaring trade.. coffee shops sell coffee and food to go and some pubs a selling beer in bottles ...most people are practicing the social distancing ...in my company over 20000 employees have been stood down.

Our supermarkets are similar with the queues but not seeing many people wearing face masks here apart from some elderly people. We're all keeping to the social distancing rules and I haven't been able to see my son properly for 7 weeks.

So interesting that you film the current situation and tell about it. Here in Germany the lock down is gradually being lifted. The shops under 800 square meters are now open again. Nevertheless, we are only allowed to meet with a second person - everything else will be severely punished. Everywhere the police drives around and checks. In the city, the parks and the woods.

Here in Berlin we have to wear masks since Monday (27.4.2020) in public transport and since Wednesday also in shops. More shops have opened here now, but people are mostly still at home. You can go out without having any reason all the time though. You are still only allowed to meet with one other person that doesn't live in your household at a time though. I personally was pretty impressed how fast people adapted the new rules. Today (Thursday) almost 90% of people wear masks when they have to. All the best to everyone around the world o/
Oh forgot to say that we don't clap/make noise for our health care professionals (yet).
As far as I know here in OZ we aren’t making noise for frontline workers. But some businesses are sending free meals to hospitals etc, and offering giveaways or discounts to them.
Masks a defiantly seen more often, I started wearing a surgical mask to protect others sometime in February. I haven’t bothered with the N95 for my protection yet, but I have given some away to others who are more at risk. I purchased them several years ago so was not denying health works any.
To be safer the Kiwi’s have done a better job of it NZ usually ahead of OZ.

I am here in Palm Springs, CA and EVERYBODY has facemasks on. They've been wearing them for about 3 weeks or more. Nobody is making a sound at 7pm or any other time as far as I know but we are indebted to our first responders!
Here in N. Florida we are encouraged to wear masks, but not mandatory. We are in phase 1 of reopening. And will go into phase 2 to reopen more come May 11th. Our beaches opened yesterday but tourist will not be allowed to vacation here for a few more weeks. My daughter and I love your page, learning all about what to do in NYC bc we had reservations to Manhattan June 6-13 for her college graduation. We are so bummed that we will not be able to go!!! In Spain we do the same clapping at 8 pm, and some people sing or dj's play from the balconies We are locked at home since march 13.
In Vegas the strip is closed. All casinos closed. We walk our dogs at the park but bathrooms, playgrounds and sporting areas roped off. Grocery stores have one way aisles.
Singapore has done this twice! But not everyday haha...and about a week ago a local Singer-Songwriter organised a mass singing of our iconic national day song "Home". You can go google it, i think you'll find some exciting videos!

I had a my first trip to NY scheduled for March 21, and of course had to cancel. I will feel safe to reschedule after a vaccine is available. I also want to give Manhattan time to recover as I had planned to do most of the main sites.
Im in WV and things are starting to open back up, as long as we keep our numbers of positive cases low. Elective surgeries start up next week and our doctors offices and outpatient medical services (such as radiology) are opening their schedules again for routine studies.

In Australia we have our restrictions reduced, the stores are open, thou we all have to line up as only certain amount of people are allowed to go in, we don’t wear masks, we can travel up to 50k from our home.

In NYC too and every week in my neighborhood it gets louder and louder. few weeks back only from the east of my building there were people ringing, shouting etc but lately I hear it from east to west of the building so it's just all over, 7pm sharp. oh and the local supermarket still will let people use their grocery bags though I heard some supermarkets were now only using the plastic ones again so as not to have people bring their own, but not in my neighborhood it seems.
I have never seen New York City quiet like this before.
If i went out at night, would be downright spooky.

I used to work a few blocks away from that Trader Joe's. Strange to see the Bike shop closed down as well. Miss the area too.
I live in Dundee, Scotland. There isn't a lot of people who wear masks, but it has now been recommended by the first minister to wear a covering at least going into shops. A few DIY stores are open and Burger King etc are opening soon. I work in a non-essential home furnishings store but there are plans in place to social distance similar to supermarkets, we just have to wait til 7th of May to see what's happening with current lockdown to see if these stores will be reopened. I'm really nervous returning to work to be honest, it's an odd situation, hopefully we can all get a sense of normality soon. 🌈 I love your videos, I still hope to get to New York for my honeymoon 😊

Cherry Hill ( Formerly Lundys), Stop N Shop, and Silver Star ( A small supermarket). People have masks/face coverings on and keeping distance. All the stores are keeping their employees protected. They are wearing masks. Plastic protection is at Cashier and customer service. Yesterday at Stop N Shop i found hand sanitizer little bottles .Limit 2 $1,99 each ( $ 4.00) no problem. Be safe.

I live in a city about 2 hours east of Lexington, KY. We have been in lockdown since the third week of February. The grocery stores here are almost always empty by 6. We havent been hit hard by this virus in my area so far. We only have 9 cases in my county with 4 deaths. My city has alot of elderly who live in the community as well as in assisted living area. The strang thing here is, we have medical staff laid off here because the virus hasn't affected our area in an overwhelming way. We also have laid off nurses and doctors who are traveling to New York and New Jersey to help. I am thankful our governor here in ky has taken a stand and kept our state shut down and no travel orders in place. It's hard being a parent but we have a very high cancer rate and alot of our community has breathing issues in our elderly and children. Every morning at 10 am we ring our bells for those lost and the ones in the icu. We also light our houses with green. You are in our prayers and know that we here in ky our keeping you all there in our prayers.
Here in the Philippines we are required to wear a face mask and have a quarantine pass when we are going outside. Also there is a policy soon to be imposed that people 65 years old and up (senior citizens) cannot go out.

I'm finding your videos really interesting. New York is so different to when I was there last April. Lockdown in Scotland is similar: not so many masks, shops operate social distancing and have markings on the floor 6 feet apart and one-way arrows. We're on an island and you can only get on the ferries if you have a reason for work or healthcare. Every Thursday at 8pm our whole street is out making noise for the healthcare workers. I play the bagpipes so can easily make a lot of noise! 😂

Hi! Everyone tonight in my road was clapping on their doorsteps for UK Health Workers as is the weekly Thursday new tradition. I'm not wearing a mask outside, about 20% -30% of people in the suburbs of London are. I'm not sure why they are as not currently advised and also masks have hygiene issues when removing and disposing.
