The TFL guys don't have enough technical knowledge to do a 10 part video series. I mean they couldn't explain enough of the details to fill 10 videos. They barely got through a carburetor removal and cleaning on the old/new Honda.
@@is6566 What? This Cold War Era Soviet Tin Can made out of rusted borscht cans doesn't have the torsional rigidity to handle 150 lb.ft. let alone +400 lb. ft. of an LS V8. The original drive train was designed for 75 HP. This would be stupider than buying a Cybertruck.
LS swap? My two favorite TFL hosts/characters? Weird and rare Soviet van? ABSOLUTELY YES! I'd watch every video of the series! I could always use more TFL content anyway! Hope you guys go for it.
My lord I would love to see a TFL video like this. Off-road vans are spectacular. As far as functionality goes they make way more sense then pickup truck. Everything is covered and weatherproof from the get go, and lighter weight then a pickup.
Yes!!! I love the Russian “loaf” van and I would love to see a motor swap. LS would be fine, because parts are plentiful and easy to come by. Yes a Cummins would be more interesting, but probably more complicated and too much power. Please do this swap!
Yes, all new drive line, including axles and brakes. That way you can source parts here in the US and do maintenance yourself. You'd have to tilt the rear axle pinion to get the driveshaft angle right, which is fine since you need custom perches anyway.
I was thinking their best option would be to body swap it onto something else! I think the possible issues they'd face would be a lot less and the end gain would be so much more.
I watch Sarah n Tuned on a regular basis. She does builds in real time, and documents everything, body work, wiring, engine work, etc. I never miss an episode. I'd love to see the Buhanka upgrade.
Of course.... Your only and best choice, videos aside, is the LS SWAP. You need to register it and be able to use it. Make a badass overland rig with all the goodies. With an LS, it'll be awesome. The other option is to throw a cover over it and . . . then . . . WHAT? Let's go!!!!!
I feel like I am going to learn something. Half the parts David mentioned I've heard of but couldn't tell you where they are on a vehicle. This is going to be awesome!
You've got the engine, the van and the ability. Do it. I would watch it the whole way through. Just keep it a manual. Another thing good about classic vehicle stuff is that 5 years from now I would watch it again. You're gun-smoke series was the best series you've ever made. Thanks.
The question really comes down to how much do you love it and want to keep it Andre. If it's something you really want to keep and hang onto for a long time, do it. I would absolutely watch this video series. It would be cool! Plus you're making this vehicle way more reliable as well. It would be the bread truck that really hauls the mail! 😂 I see some people here saying swap in a Cummins or something of that nature. You're missing the point. They got this 4.8 for free. Plus, while a Cummins is reliable, they are super heavy! Not ideal for this truck. Even a baby 4BT is still heavy. Plus getting it to 70 would be a bit of a challenge. The 4.8 would be more than enough. I feel like that analogy of Andre comparing himself to an LS swapped Buhanka is so on point. From Russia but he has the heart of a true American.
I would definitely watch as many videos as you’d put into an LS swapped buhanka series. It would definitely be entertaining. The extreme overland buhanka! 👍
if it's possible. i say go for it. i love watching any project David is working on and i think a lot of tfl fans enjoy any video David is in and what he's up to next, but curious how you're going to make everything fit.
I'm in. I have a small request to go with it. I'd like to see graphics on the truck. A wrap if it's easier, that is in the spirit of the 70's panel vans with wizards/warriors and album covers etc, but updated for the era this van was around in. Circa 1990. Imagine the possibilities.
How to Americanise a Soviet era icon. It sounds like an excellent idea and ultimately expensive in time and fabrication. But I like seeing David in action. He's a pragmatist because he reduces waste, reuses and recycles what he has onhand. I'd watch the entire series which maybe ten or more videos. Maybe find a sponsor or sponsors for the entire series. Good luck!
I would love to see a project like this. Would also like to see the problems that arise how you overcome them. I think you could make at least 10 different videos of this project. Need to use complete GM drive line from engine to transmission to transfer case and custom drive shafts. Swap out the axles.
I say go for it. I find it very entertaining to watch builds like this. Between Fab Rats, Matts Off-road, and others do it might as well do axles and suspension to. I'm sure you could get some decent partners for parts. Very exciting.
I would sit back and enjoy the show, go for it! I'm sure there will be all kinds of challenges to overcome. I had a 302 in my pinto back in the day, that was a fun toy! I killed a couple stock rear ends punching it and dropping into first. A couple radiators when the front end would come down too hard. Fun times!
My thoughts are, lift the body off, do the engine swap, make a trans adapter, using a gm bellhousing and clutch disc the fits the spline of the input shaft. Radiator relocation be necessary. After market fuel ecm .
I think it would be a great series. If size wise the LS doesnt fit i bet you could pick up a 4x4 Astro Van pretty cheap and use the drivetrain from that. The V6 from that would give you just under 200hp which would still be a huve upgrade.
I want to see it! It’s going to take a long time to complete. But i’m all in. I feel like a power train swap from a S-10 blazer would be a better fit. Maybe the 2.8l v6 version, it would fit in there without much effort.
I would watch every video you post on it. I love the 4.8l 2000 Silverado had one and I put 487,000+ miles on it and it was still running when I sold it. Original 4L 60 made it that far before it lost third gear replace fuel pump three times tho
I was wondering what had happened to this vehicle, I am totally ready to see a lot more of it and the cool stuff you both will do to it to make it legal to drive in US and Colorado. Plus fun adventures with it!
Find something else to swap into the Buhanka.. My gut says it won’t fit well, it’ll be too heavy, and it’ll be overpowered.. 75mph will be too fast for the brakes and suspension.. Andrey, since it’s your personal vehicle, I think you’ll want it to be fully sorted. I think you’d be better off trading David’s LS for a turbo-4.. Maybe out of a a recent Colorado or Silverado.. That said, LS swapping will get you clicks! If you go that route, be sure to do it right! Measure everything carefully! Figure out how everything needs to work, including cooling. And if it’s going to increase the weight, consider adding power steering. The most practical thing is to get the engine management system sorted out.. Maybe swap to some kind of Holley EFI with good PC tuning.
I would watch. But Andre, I think the first question is what budget you have for this project. Also, if you can’t get past emissions, the swap is worthless. So if there’s viewer interest in this project, I’d start by answering those questions. Hopefully helpful advice from a guy that’s been wrenching and driveline modding for the last 25 years. 👍
Yes - do one with the LSA style intake blower like a magnuson or whipple. Something with a lot of torque and around 600-700 horsepower but still very streetable and good offroad.
A detuned LS should get great mileage. This will make a fun series to watch; another Big Green, though remember how painful that was to get it working right.
Do IT!! I'll watch this series (5/6 episodes?) many times before watching even one episode of Cybertruck content. Upgrade the axles and suspension, too!
Honestly I'd look for an American vehicle with a close enough similar wheel base. The reason why I say this is it would save so much hassle and make getting repair parts so much easier! If it fit onto a Jeep, bronco,, blazer or Durango it opens up so many more possibilities! You know the front and rear axles can handle V-8 power! You need suspension parts, brake parts. drivetrain parts they are all more easily accessible! I think using the Soviet era front and rear axles etc is setting yourself up for all kinds of parts availability and failure issues. Body swapping it onto an American vehicle platform saves you all that hassle!
I would watch a video series on LS swapping your buhanka.
Sounds weird.🥴
Anything with David and Andre I will watch! 5-10 episodes would be awesome
David is the hidden gem for TFL. Glad to see him back in videos.
Don't ask, just do. Make it a 10 part video series. Also, you could easily find some axles and change those out since it's leaf springs.
The TFL guys don't have enough technical knowledge to do a 10 part video series. I mean they couldn't explain enough of the details to fill 10 videos. They barely got through a carburetor removal and cleaning on the old/new Honda.
Yes but David can.

@@jimjones-pz1ttdidn’t the Big Green engine swap they did about 8 years ago have about that many episodes?
@@jimjones-pz1ttBox. The. Frame.
Please 🙏
Buhanka series would be so awesome!!!
Plus Andre would get to drive it when it’s done
LS swap? My two favorite TFL hosts/characters? Weird and rare Soviet van? ABSOLUTELY YES! I'd watch every video of the series! I could always use more TFL content anyway! Hope you guys go for it.

Absolutely, love watching David and Andre.
Do it! LS swap that baby! Then Andre must do at least 1 burnout at TFL office :)
I’d totally watch a series on this. I don’t know anything about cars, but stuff like this is still fascinating.
I would watch all videos you make on this. Go for it.
I will watch as many as it takes. Anything with David is worth watching
Yes!!! I love the Russian “loaf” van and I would love to see a motor swap. LS would be fine, because parts are plentiful and easy to come by. Yes a Cummins would be more interesting, but probably more complicated and too much power. Please do this swap!
That's why it needs a 4bt
They do make a Cummins 4bte.
Yes, more Buhanka please! Anything Dave is involved you know is going to be epic!
Yes. Absolutely do it! That would be so unique and cool.
Frame off conversation with new custom frame, engine, transmission, suspension, etc just saving the body.
Yes, all new drive line, including axles and brakes. That way you can source parts here in the US and do maintenance yourself. You'd have to tilt the rear axle pinion to get the driveshaft angle right, which is fine since you need custom perches anyway.

I’ve been waiting to see both the Buhanka and David. Hell yeah do it! Any American V8 would be cool!
As someone else mentioned, if you are swapping in a LS, do axles and bigger brakes too
I watch Sarah n Tuned on a regular basis. She does builds in real time, and documents everything, body work, wiring, engine work, etc. I never miss an episode. I'd love to see the Buhanka upgrade.
Sarah's attention to detail is amazing.
Heck yeah, I would watch them all. If I was closer I would volunteer to help.
Well yah……of course
I would love to see a LS swap video series on the Buhanka... such a cool van!!!!
I would watch all of the videos on LS swapping the Buhanka.

This would be the best series ever.
To see you two work together and create this id watch every video start to finish,. That's a promise!
i think i would go with the chevy 4.3l v6 before i'd go with the v8. i think it would be a better engine for the van. good luck. love the content
Yes, do it!
I'd love to watch David doing and engine and transmission swap in the Buhanka.
I would definitely watch as many videos as you’d put into an LS swapped buhanka series. It would definitely be entertaining. The extreme overland buhanka! 👍

I would love to see y'all turn this into an overlanding/offroading beast!
Do it! I love the Buhanka! It's good to see David again!
Yes!! would love to see it updated!!
With a small diesel 5 spd manual
It would be a very interesting build. We would like to watch the series.
I love this idea. I hope you guys follow through with this.
Hell yeah, 8 to 10 part series! This would be great
I would watch all the videos on a engine/ trans swap......Great project!

I’d watch this series. Especially with David’s know how and personality and Andre’s personal relationship to the van.
Do it!! I'd watch a full season :)
What a fun project. Great idea to LS swap the Buhanka
I would definetly watch a series on this.
Definitely need a multi-part series on that build. I want to see UAZ burnouts. 😂
That would be a very neat video series!
Of course I would love to watch a series on LS Swapping the Buhanka! I bet that thing would be amazing fun with just a standard output 4.8 even 😎
Hmm. Reminds me of a Land Rover Forward Control 101. Could be worth looking at how they solved the design constraints?

Yes, I would love to see videos. Just thinking about all of the unknown issues that will arise are worthy of several videos.
I think that video series would be fun to watch.
I would watch every video especially if it is a detailed series. Show everything step by step
I want to see it! It’s going to take a long time to complete. But i’m all in. I feel like a power train swap from a S-10 blazer would be a better fit. Maybe the 2.8l v6 version, it would fit in there without much effort.
If you are putting in an LS, why not upgrade the axles too? I'm certain David knows where you could buy two used axles. Looking forward to the series.
Yes go for it, that would be a great series. Love hearing David's approach.
Brilliant idea. How many videos would I watch? All of them.
Totally 💯
5-part series should cover it.
I watch build series that last 6 months. Love it! Make it a true overland beast!
Do it! I’d watch them all.
I would watch every video you post on it. I love the 4.8l 2000 Silverado had one and I put 487,000+ miles on it and it was still running when I sold it. Original 4L 60 made it that far before it lost third gear replace fuel pump three times tho

Yes!! If that is a real option, whole heartedly YES!! Put a V8 and westernize that beast!!
I would watch a series and then see andre finally using it
Yes please will watch for sure

Yes - do one with the LSA style intake blower like a magnuson or whipple. Something with a lot of torque and around 600-700 horsepower but still very streetable and good offroad.
thats probably too much power. the stock power of a 4.8 slightly turned up is probably fine.
I think five videos would be a good number, possibly up to seven. I do really hope Andre gets to enjoy his Buhanka.
Love the idea! Surprised it hadn’t been done already.
Very exciting to see the Buchanan getting more powerful engine. It will get a new life.
I would love a video series on this project!! Do it!
That would be a great series.
A detuned LS should get great mileage.
This will make a fun series to watch; another Big Green, though remember how painful that was to get it working right.
Dude! LS swap that thing!! I’d watch every video! I love seeing David’s craftsmanship!
There are aftermarket transfer cases available. The best modification for my jeep was having a 4-speed atlas transfer case installed.
I’d watch. I watch all your shows. An ecotec engine would be fine moving that whip. Best of luck.
I would like to see a series on this vehicle!
