- NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Decca 31912) Out of Los Angeles, one of the more highly regarded and collectable singles of the Girl Group/Girl Pop era. Recorded at Hollywood's iconic Gold Star Studio in late 1965 and issued in February of 1966, fourteen year old Beverly Williams sings 'He's Hurtin' Me' with a very convincing and soulfully mature vocal delivery. Produced by Gary Usher with a fantastic, 'Surf meets Spector' arrangement by Stu Phillips, its a shame that this top notch production didn't achieve hit status for Miss Williams. While she recorded about seven known tracks between 1964 and 1966, 'He's Hurtin' Me' b/w 'Heart' were the only two ever issued. Five of the other tracks were eventually included on a compilation CD issued in 2004.

Greetings everyone, Beverly's still "with us" . She stayed a singer through out the years, playing with many great musicians.
She enjoys her private life, with her family & friends.
We collectively thank her for sharing her voice, & artistry for many years.
Thanks, Bev .... Deja Vu... could be the dream that I once knew?.... Remember ?
What a surprise , what a hidden gem
Fantastic record! All the elements present to take this young lady to stardom. I can see her performing this record on Hollywood a Go Go and Shindig. Damn shame it didn't happen for Beverly.
Outstanding vocal performance by a girl who's voice sounds well beyond her years. Thanks, Anthony, great post.
Another great sound from your seemingly inexhaustible supply. Thanks so much Anthony.
One of my all-time favorite recordings!
Love this song!
Another great song produced by Gary Usher!!
ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS!!!
A shame indeed, for this is fantastic!
Great tune. Thanks for sharing.
I liked this song even as we wrote it. I was at work the day she did the session, but Chuck attended and told me that evening how nice a very young Miss Williams and her mother were and how impressed he was with her vocal considering her youth. When I heard the cut with Stu Phillips' arrangement and Gary's production, I was blown away! Even now, almost 50 years later, I still love to hear Beverly Williams' terrific voice and Gary & Stu Phillips' rendering of our composition. Thanks for putting up this excellent copy. Did Stan do the board on this recording? If not, who did?
Awesome track!
Gary usher and Roger Christian were responsible for some 60s gems. Rog. Pacific sunset records .
Nice sound!
A+++++!!! Thanks for posting the label info - knew that Gary Usher produced but not that Stu Phillips arranged. If I had known about it '66, I would have bought it!
love this anthony, nice one.
thumbs up!
Gary Paxton!
What ever happened to Beverly? No info on the net
I went to West High with Beverly one year. My Jr her frosh or soph. Math class together. She was a night club singer here in Bakersfield. I can't remember the name of the very nice place but I was able to watch her perform a few times as I passed through town. Like you, I can't find anything about her. Not on Facebook either. A shame as i would like to say hi.
