The really good thing is he doesn’t trash talk Mac OS because stuff is different than in Windows. I’m a little tired of Linus playing dumb or not even trying to use Mac OS properly. My sister seems more of a power user than Linus on a Mac

Gotta love this man's energy and presentation style. I like the more "high energy" style of Linus and most others as well but the way that Anthony presents it kinda feels like he's sitting down and actually taking the time to explain things.

I chose the Pro vs the Air because I like the way it looks more (love the blocky modern look), the touch strip (as annoying as the thing is...I find it super cool) and the brighter screen.
I ended up going with the 16/512 as well.
I totally agree with you though...the Air is a great pick up if you're not wanting the touch bar.

Now that's the video everybody was actually waiting for. Anthony doing a great job, as usual.
M1 seems very compelling. Some days I want to upgrade, then theirs some days I tell myself to wait until they've done some refining. Can't wait to play around with the mac's when we get our demo units at work.
Anthony is the best reviewer at LTT, more relaxed style than Linus, easier to listen to, more informed. Great video. I plumped for the Air, the Pro didn't offer me anything extra, and the lack of fan is fantastic. It's also the Mac that has brought me back from Windows after many years away as my daily driver for work.

Like Intel didn't intentionally fry one of the cores in the Core Duo to make the Core Solo back in the day. Lol
Difference in the power limit (and maybe clock speeds as well) creates enough differentiation between the two products, I suppose. I think that's what they did in late 2000s as well, when they used the same Core 2 Duo chips clocked differently for different products.

This is incorrect. Both MBP and MBA have the same 8-core CPU. If you're referring to the GPU, the MBA has 7 cores instead of 8 in the MBP, so 1 less out of 8, not 2.
@ddk if I remember back (jeez feel old talking about the Core chips and realizing they're well over a decade old now!) Intel initially used faulty Duos for the "majority" of Solos but it wasn't long before their manufacturing process had improved enough that the majority of Solos ended up having to come from neutered Duos as they just didn't have enough Duos with the (likely very specific) faults that would allow them to operate as a single core. That's just what I remember reading back in the day.

I am completely impressed with the Mac Pro 16. It's my 4th laptop this year.. My big dell was too big and literally physically worn out. I did like the LG Gram I bought on yalls advice but the screen cracked and warranty said it was unrepairable and sent me a check, I bought the best MSI off the shelf from walmart and was very disappointed in the build quality. With the Macbook pro I am all Apple now and not looking back. Everything is an experience from the time you unbox it, to the audio which does sound like surround sound, to the screen, to the weight, the feel, the keys, balance and well everything. It's the little details that make it awesome. Even windows 10 for my accounting software runs faster in parallels than it did on the I7 in the MSI. I needed a laptop now and figure I9 64gb of ram and 2TB storage it should last well into the time that they have any bugs out of Silicon and all the programs I use run natively on it. All the Mac user youtubes said with the exceptions of an SD card slots and more I/O Apple really listened to the user and designed something nice with this one and I agree 100%. I hate it is not upgradeable or user serviceable (like my still running Mac Pro 1,1 and My I5 IMac 27" I maxed both out for less than a grand total including buying them and they hold their own. I love the Apple hacker community on that front. Unlike others they are nice and willing to help.) I knew this going into it. I planned for the future when I specced it, I bought all the dongles and adaptors I would need (not from apple) and will have Apple Care full coverage on it for as long as I own it. I am a convert I am all Apple including my phone and tablet. I work on windows machines for a living and yes 10 is probably the most stable Microsoft OS since DOS if you have the right hardware and know how to tame it... most people don't... but unlike windows and linux and even android at times it just works with no fuss and does everything for me but if I want to open a command line and do some power user stuff I can which is what I want at the end of the day. And Anthony keep it up. You have a great voice, personality and presentation. I say that as a studio engineer. Love your videos.
We got my old boss the M1 MacBook Pro.. gorgeous machine. Nothing thrown at it would even make it hiccup once. Great screen and keyboard and we both like the toolbar for scrubbing. Battery life was impressive also. He got the 512gb w/ 16gb ram variant and his last was a late 2011 MacBook Pro lol.. so this will last a loooong time.
Gosh Anthony is looking better and better with each video he's in. Keeping track of his Twitter and his health journey, dude is making some awesome progress. Then on top of that, I love hearing him talk about things. Anthony is great, he needs more vids!

I like the idea of not having a fan if not needed. It's cooling down too quickly is what has caused problems with soldered on CPU's and GPU's + they were running at ridiculous temps in the past + lead free solder.

When do we get the review?
I can't wait for Anthony's review of any of the M1 Macs. A few month ago I bought a 13" XPS 9300 and its been an awesome machine for everything I needed a small ultrabook for. With that being said the battery life and performance I have been seeing on the M1 powered new Macs is enticing. Truthfully I am probably going to wait for the refreshed design with more powerful chips to come out. But This is still exciting. I am a 3D Artist professionally and I have been using Blender professionally for nearly 12 years now. And the performance I have been seeing from test running Blender under Rosetta 2 beats out my i7-1067G7 powered XPS. And that is pretty awesome. Especially when I can't remote desktop into my PC workstation at my home office for more intensive Blender workloads. But I am keeping an eye out to see what happens. I will say that I prefer the XPS size and design better. But I am a tech nerd and performance and efficiency mean a bit more to me. So we will see! I am excited! Make's having a Mac a unique experience again since the PowerPC or 6800 days.
Heck yeah, Anthony! Totally agree that the pro model needs more. I think the pro should retain the four USB-C ports like the previous gens, a dedicated GPU, and would love to have two internal storage drives.
As long as it plays ShortCircuit videos, it's usable to me.

We want to know if it runs at 100°C after 5 seconds of cpu load, like all the other macs lol, and if they still have the backlight right next to a CPU data line, and whether the display cable was again designed too short for the machine to fully open without breaking it after 100 times, etc. You know, those iconic Apple things that make Apple special.

I got myself the MacBook Air M1 as my first Apple laptop but I'm not using it like all the reviewers with the need of heavy editing jobs and what not.. I like it very much.
FYI, I noticed that you hit the speaker button on the Touch Bar then slid it to adjust the volume. What if I told you that you can just press slide that stationary button and it automatically jumps into the volume slider… The reviews saying that the speakers suck or are OK really piss me off because they are pretty good for a tiny computer, especially compared to all the Lenovo/ThinkPad computers I’ve ever owned. Listening to music, I swear it sounds like there’s speakers way out to the sides- almost as if there are speakers to the left and right of the physical speakers. The same thing exists on my work computer: a 2019 15” MacBook Pro. Those little speakers sound so good to me.
Finally, someone qualified to actually give a proper initial impression on the new Macs without raging yet claiming that they aren't.

Reason why I still won’t upgrade my 2019 MBP is it’s confusing on what benefits I will get from getting either model. Also, most SDKs haven’t ported to ARM yet and I need that for work. Will wait some time and development for this...
