  • The Pekingese.
Now this little fella is certainly no wimp, despite how he might appear. His courage is admirable, and although he doesn’t go around looking for trouble, he’ll certainly not run the other way if he should find some!
If one word could sum him up, it would be stubborn! Famous for it and mixed in with a generous dollop of independence, you have a dog that’s more than a challenge to train. He’s a very loving guy though, and not at all over-the-top.
Although he loves a slow chilled walk, he’ll also get the exercise he needs from a romp around indoors. He’s perfect for indoors, and will live happily in a flat or apartment as long as it doesn’t get too hot in the summer, the heat is extremely dangerous for him.
He definitely needs combing regularly to prevent matting, once or twice a week is about right. He’s pretty bad at wiping his bum, so yeah, you might need to help him out in that department.
Interesting facts: This breed is a result of an attempt to accentuate the resemblance to the lion, as in Buddhist China the lion was seen as a symbol of Buddha! These ‘lion dogs’ went on to be treated as royalty, some even had their own personal servants!
The Pekingese. A pleasant dog for those after something a little different.
