Hello guys, after quite some time!
I have been spending my break taking some much needed time off, and now I feel that I have done everything that I needed to in this time. I will now be back to uploading regularly! Thank you so very much for all of your support (and patience).
This video was filmed before the pandemic. I am back in the U.S. now staying indoors social distancing. I hope that all of you are doing the same, and are keeping safe out there.
My next videos will include Lijiang, Tibet, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Kazakhstan, the southwest United States, and more! Good thing I'm stocked up on footage to edit.
Also sorry that I kept changing my pronunciation of Xi'an throughout the video. It's really hard to say for me I suppose 😆
I'm so so happy to release this video and be back! Feeling so so inspired and grateful to ALL of you! Stay inspired,
    - Jordan

So glad you are back and safe! That last time I was in China, my wife and I took the bullet train from Shanghai to Xi’An, and spent three days there. Muslim Street is so colorful with tasty food, and at night it lights up along with nearby Drum Tower and Bell Tower. The City once was the great Chang’An during the Tang Dynasty. Truly a world city of that era. Of course, we went to see the Terracotta warriors, but there is so much more to see! The city wall, Ban Po historic site, with 6,000 year old artifacts, the Shaanxi Provincial Museum is fantastic, and so much more worth seeing. You showed it well in this video!

Actually the saying was “If you want to see 50 years history of China, go to Shenzhen; If you want to know 100 years history of China, go to Shanghai; If you want to find 1000 years history of China, go to Beijing; If you want to discover 5000 years history in China, go to Xi’an”. Xi'an is my hometown. I grew up in Xi'an and went to study in Singapore. As a non-muslim in Xi'An, growing up it never occurred to me that I was living in a place surrounded by "dangerous" mus lims; I felt we were harmonious and united. There is a Mosque just beside my house on the same street, I have seen mus lims having weddings there and once I even saw a speed dating session organized there. In fact, some of the most popular dishes in Xi'an were brought here by mus lims. It was until I went to Singapore after I started to understand English and being exposed to the Western media, I became aware that having mus lims around was viewed as a potential threat to many societies, a thought which never happened to me when I was in my hometown.

The muslims you have seen in Xi'an are HUI (native) Not UYGHUR it's BIG BIG diffrence...The Hui ethnic group are the most numerous muslims in china around 20 - 50 million, they are also the oldest muslims living in china because their ancestors are arabs and persians merchant who married chinese women 1300 years ago ... the hui are on the 56 ethnic groups of China the most closest anthropologically to the Han (the ultra majority ethnic group of China) the only difference is that they are Muslim... Hui are also one of the most privileged ethnic Chinese groups because of their patriotic and heroic commitment to the service of emperors (in the Middle Ages) and to the service of the republic of China since the communist era

@Levis. H You are just a bullshit. If Chinese government wants to suppress Chinese Muslims, do they even distinguish which one is Hui and which one is Uyghur? I am a Muslim, why I don't have any problem to live in China? If you have never ever been China, then just shut up your mouth.

    • @newsfromchina3581
      @newsfromchina3581 4 года назад +62

@Levis. H You are totally wrong.
Firstly, Uyghur-ethnic peoplehave close relationships with the Han-ethnic chinese. Back in ancient China, uyghur-ethnic people(the huihu) cooperate with the han chinese to fight against the turks. In Tang Dynasty, the chinese empire controlled most parts of Xinjiang and some parts of Krystzan, the famous poet Li Bai, which is a han-ethnic person, was born in places near Krystzan, showing that uyghur-ethnic chinese and han-ethnic chinese have habits of marrying different ethnic minorities(通婚). In modern times, some Uyghur-ethnic chinese go for DNA checks and find out they are not purely uyghur-ethnic, but with other ethnic minorities. This shows that uyghur-ethnic people and han-chinese people are not totally different.
Secondly, all ethnic people are Chinese in China. We have 56 ethnic minorities and some unidentified minorities, and they are all Chinese. Hui chinese and Han Chinese are not totally the same in terms of eating habits and religion.
Thirdly, The leader of Tibetan buddism is allowed in China after the liberation by the PLA, Dalai Lama flee to India just because of the advice of some tibetans at that time. The central governent of China is planning to start conversations with Dalai Lama but he flee away, leading to the break of the relationships between the tibet local govt and the central govt . Tibet is part of China since the Yuan Dynasty, and the religion leaders are given high autonomy, which the Qing Dynasty, ROC regime offered.
Fourthly, Tibetan-ethnic chinese is still a huge population in Tibet, which occupied for 90% of the population, there are only 10% han-ethnic people, monpa-ethnic people etc. While in Xinjiang, there are 40% uyghur-ethnic chinese, 30% han-ethnic chinese and 5% kazah-ethnic chinese. So your claim of "ibet and Xinjiang are now majority Han Chinese" is not right and is totally a joke.
Lastly, western media are not right on the Xinjiang issue, they make up stories just like they did in other countries, claiming that there are human right issues in the region. However, when they make up more fake stories and illusion, the truth will come out and the central govt of China wins more trust and support from the citizens. You should download Kuaishou(快手), follow CGTN, and scroll on the short video of USA claiming human right problems, you can see ethnic minority chinese supporting the govt, search for videos on kuaishou about ethnic minorities and you see how ethnic minorites live.

there's something about Jordan's video made them special and different.
we all know the trendy vlogging style, being young and fashionable and handsome all over the planet. but Jordan's something else, I feel like she's more quite and sensitive to surroundings, not necessarily all hyped ALL THE TIME like other young people.
even the back ground music she uses is different from other popular vloggers'. others use tons of jazz-hiphop and electro while Jordan uses more classical melodies.

Thank you so much for speaking the truth. I worked 5 years in Silicon Valley. Cool place, very diverse. But I felt hopeless trying defending China for the false information from west media. Because I’m Chinese. Kinda lost the credit. 🥺Especially about the Muslim. My hometown is a small city in China, Wuhu. My favorite food place is a Muslim bbq lamb, and their beef noodle soup. The owner barely speak Chinese, only a few business related words. But they wore their traditional cloths, everyone got along just fine. My gramma was a Christian. I went to church with her all the time. But west media also saying China targeting Christian, tearing down churches. Just Insane! The US gov acts like a divorce lawyer, attacked China with every endless fabricated lies. I’m a big supporter for BLM. 🦾But I didn’t go to protest. I was afraid(maybe overthinking) that if I was arrested or my face was caught on camera, the media might make a narrative saying I’m a spy or CCP incited the protest. So I didn’t go although I really want to. 🧧I will never mention it in public, but deep in my heart, I truly felt that the racist towards Chinese is worse, when the whole problem got rationalized by the huge misunderstanding about China. Ppl just attack China calling ppl communist like it’s the worst curse... I know one video is not gonna change everything. But thank you so much for trying and the amazing work! Would u plz considering putting some of your content on TikTok too? That would be amazing, since tiktok is where the attention went these days 🙏🏼

Your camera & editing are top-notch & told a great story, loved how you described the scenes that you laid out such as the grandmother showing her granddaughter the playground she played at. Overall, outstanding work!

Xi’an is the capital city of many ancient dynasties of China. Qin dynasty, the very first feudal dynasty which unified the whole country over two thousand years ago, derived from this area.
In Tang Dynasty, Xi’an (named Chang an that time) was the largest city in the world with millions of people. And then, when Japanese built Kyoto and Nara, they emulated the layout of Xi’an and kept it till nowadays.

One characteristic about the Chinese race and culture that is often underappreciated is that the Chinese race and culture are very inclusive. Contrary to what many people might expect, the Chinese race and culture are not static but dynamic. As an example, about two thousand years ago, China was plagued by the nomadic race in the north called the Xiong Nu. The Xiong Nu people would raid the northern part of China and make off with livestocks, food, and even people that they use as slaves. When the Chinese Dynasty became strong, they launched counter attacks that totally decimated the Xiong Nu.As a result, a significant proportion of the Xiong Nu surrendered to the Chinese Dynasty and were absorbed into the Chinese society. They became assimilated into the Chinese race and some of their culture became part of the Chinese culture as well. Similar phenomena happened throughout history, the latest of which was the Manchu people who ruled the Qing Dynasty, who also became completely Chinese.

Thank you very much for using the camera to show my hometown Xi'an so beautiful. If you have the opportunity to come to Xi'an again, you can do a high-speed rail trip to Mountain Hua. At the top of Mountain Hua 2500 meters, you can photograph the beautiful Milky Way and the beautiful sunrise. Climb the cliffs close to 90 degrees, and experience the highest ropeway in Asia with a drop of nearly 1,000 meters. The food of Xi'an will also make you very nostalgic. I hope that more and more Westerners like you will use their own camera to record the most authentic China, instead of watching Fuchs and the BBC to know China. Xi'an is a city that has witnessed and experienced changes in China for more than 2000 years. If you want to understand China and know China, Xi'an will be a good start. Welcome to Xi'an.
