I led a team of 32 to hire engineers In Beijing in April 2006. Whole group is amazed by clean streets and friendly people. We drove around the neighborhood for hours and couldn't find a single small street that was dirty.

if you visit during summer or fall, you do not see too much pollution. I attached my college in Beijing in 1980s, that time was fine. And I returned to Beijing and worked from 2012 to 2013, I can say the pollution was so bad. I need to peel outside to see if the building a few hundreds of yard away is visible to decide should I ware the mask. Now it should be better than 2012-2013 time.
So you were at Tiannanmen square, but did you attend the daily flagceremony? At sunrise they raise it and at sundawn they get it down and bring it back. Its something every chinese learns in school and many of them want to see this at least once in the ifetime in real life :) . Jason, The Imperial City is easy to recognize - apart from its size, you'll notice there are few tall trees within the City, only shrubs, mainly for security reason. It is relatively easy for assassinator(s)to hide in tall trees, which is why the emperor tend to keep the plants short and scarcely distributed. So the first one, the one that you mentioned with a lot of trees is definitely not the Imperial City.

So you were at Tiannanmen square, but did you attend the daily flagceremony? At sunrise they raise it and at sundawn they get it down and bring it back. Its something every chinese learns in school and many of them want to see this at least once in the ifetime in real life :) . I liked Beijing very much, but I cant imagine living there, its too big, when I get back with my wife, we will look for something smaller :D

China is such a large country, there will definately be places that are very clean and developed, while on the otherhand, there will be rural and polluted areas(near the industrial places)... its just that western medias loooove to focus on the negativity. Kudos for sharing this!

The last time that I went to Beijing was in the mid 1990s and it looks so different now. I can't wait to visit Beijing again.
Nice to see Beijing from your Channel! Last time I visited was over 10 years ago, half of the time it was kinda ruined by sand storm. But the forbidden city remains stunning, a lot less crowded and the environment improves a lot. Can’t wait to go again when the border is opened.

the forbidden city in that drama is a fake one. It is built for drama shooting purpose. But the size and the architecture of it are the same as the real one you see in this vlog. The forbidden city in Beijing is not allowed for shooting purposes ever since the movie 'the last emperor'

Jason, The Imperial City is easy to recognize - apart from its size, you'll notice there are few tall trees within the City, only shrubs, mainly for security reason. It is relatively easy for assassinator(s)to hide in tall trees, which is why the emperor tend to keep the plants short and scarcely distributed. So the first one, the one that you mentioned with a lot of trees is definitely not the Imperial City.

A few years ago, Beijing was polluted. My wife and I couldn’t stop coughing when it didn’t seem to bother others. But things change fast. It’s not the same Beijing as it was 100, 50, 30, 10 or 3 years ago
