Literally. La Tortuga's Era is now 4.50. The only other person in our bullpen that has a 4.50 is Duffey, the rest are much higher. He's still one of our best reliever at this point. Alcala and Robles have lower but it doesn't feel like it.

It's not a novelty because it happens more often. The reason being that 20-30 years ago it would be pretty infrequently, but that's because your starting pitchers actually PITCHED MORE INNINGS. In the MLB of today the starting pitchers don't go as deep so that means your bullpen is needed more often. That leads to coaches wanting 'rest' the bullpen in a blow-out.

Not only is he saying that Mercedes shouldn't have done it, and not only did he basically say he will be punished for scoring runs, but he apologized on Mercedes behalf and said he won't do it again (even though Mercedes didn't regret doing it at all). And even worse, today when the Twins threw AT Mercedes, he said "I didn't have a problem with how the Twins handled that," siding with the team that just threw a baseball at his player, instead of his player who hit a home run. The Twins announcer would have been "you are taking a walk up 15-4 against a pos player pitching?" No matter what he did he would have been wrong. At least he didn't stare it down or celebrate, he hit it, trotted, touched the plate and praised, he did nothing wrong.

Ya some of the "unwritten rules" in baseball make no sense to me just from a competition standpoint.
That batter isn't on your team, why is he trying to help you? Its literally his job to hit the ball, and you got a guy throwing slower than a little league pitcher out there.
I think this one rubs me the wrong way more than others though specifically because the pitcher is throwing meatballs. The guys a professional baseball player, AND a catcher. You know he has a decent arm but hes out there throwing 45.

  • @DasHeisenberg

I remember being at a mets/braves game way back when in a blow out. John Franco blew out his thumb and Matt came to pitch. Jones launched a 3R HR off him, and it was just business as usual since it was a rival. 15-2 game or something like it. So, either grow use it to step up against the rival the next game or peg him first pitch.
Secondly, its a game of stats. You want the winning team to just fold and your relievers at the back end would get similarly padded stats for quick outs and Ks.
