I’m not sure that he would’ve been thrown out. I think it was more an attempt to avoid suspicion if they did indeed take that mound visit to review the play, then plan to appeal in order to review. Pretty genius, must say.

    • @WalterLiddy

It's not likely because they didn't want to appear aggressive (certainty is a stronger position to take when you can). It's that they didn't want to draw attention to how long it had been since the play occurred, that they'd have been able to view the replay. At least, that's what Jomboy is suggesting here.

The easiest job for a manager is to pull an obviously struggling pitcher just before that pitcher gives up 3 to 4 runs. Craig loves for struggling pitchers to get themselves out of their own jams they’ve created.
When he finally does make a move, after of course the 3-4 lead turns into a 2 run deficit, the pitcher he brings in next gets the final out on three consecutive pitches.

The rule is you only have 20 seconds to "challenge" a call. Since they could not "challenge" anymore, they asked the umps for an "appeal" of the call (I guess there is no time limit on an appeal). I think they appealed to the first base ump. When the first base ump agreed with the home plate ump on the appeal, they then "challenged" the appeal (within 20 seconds).

Hope to see some of the Doyers/Gigantes you on here!! With the series involving the two best teams in baseball and 3 crazy game endings, only way this series doesn’t end up on here is east coast bias. Hopefully we get one!!

Just tell the white sox manager guy that it's an unwritten rule that if the bases are loaded you can have a mound visit and then review if the guy missed the home plate
