Girl!! God just used you in a mighty way. I feel so convicted(in a good way) to step back, but I am totally addicted to the keeping up with everyone and everything bug. I'm constantly changing my decor, my clothes, feeling discontent with my looks, wondering if I'm doing the right things with my kids...... It's endless. I need to feel bored. I used to read a book in a weekend, and now I rarely read because I fill my time with my phone. Thank you for this.
Everything you said is so true! Last year I stopped going on Facebook, eliminating some people out of my life, got rid of my cell phone (land line only) I live my life according to what makes me happy. My life became so simple and honestly so much more relaxed..and content. I do enjoy certain RUclips channels, and I have only watch 7am to 7:30 am and 7pm until 7:30pm and it’s just enough… I love your channel❤️
The thought that just came to my mind: If we're feeling an emptiness in our life, as some of us are, social media is more than happy to jump in and fill any void God wants to fill. Next time I'm tempted to pick up my phone to soothe myself, I'll leave it alone and say a prayer instead. Thank you, Hilary.
I’m so glad we didn’t have social media when I raised my son who is 34 years old now. He got my full attention all the time. I was never bored. Thanks for sharing with us occasionally.
I have said the same thing so many times! I am truly glad I did not have social media when my children were young! It breaks my heart to see moms on their phone when they should be interacting with their little ones, or when the children are trying to get their attention or need something, but their moms are distracted by social media. I certainly am not shaming anyone here because we live in a different world now than we did when I was a young mom ( my youngest is going to be 21 next month) but I would just ask young moms today to put their phones down and be 100% present with your children.
OMG Hilary, this video is so well said. Comparison steals the joy for SURE! I am 49 and I remember the only way to get inspiration was to go buy a magazine or to watch certain segments on morning shows. Now, it's everywhere and I feel everyone is competing with each other and it is so sickening. Thank you for posting this video!
The other day My daughter actually told me to disconnect from social media . She said she does it every now and then and she is less stress and is more productive. Especially with all the negative and fear mongering news these days . Great topic.
I am 59 years old and only recently discovered what influences are etc. I was a little addicted to RUclips for a few months, but soon became tired of the overly cheerful and energetic folks who bought the newest decor, appliances and clothes. It seemed women all looked alike, the same hair, make up and body. It was disconcerting. I felt badly for young people who might feel the need to compare. I hope other young people are inspired by your message. You have an old soul I think. I have been so impressed by how you and your family live your life. I find your videos very educational and you have made me happier with what I have. You have reminded me to enjoy the little things in life. I am back to using RUclips as a manual for changing the clock in my car lol. With a few exceptions like your channel.
I’m 33 and a mother to a seven year old girl and an 18 month old boy. Near the end of 2020 I felt so overwhelmed in a negative way by social media. Everywhere I looked people were over sharing so much negativity that it physically and mentally took a toll on me. Aside from that I got into a vicious cycle of overconsumption of social media. Like you mentioned I wasn’t allowing myself to just be bored, or just be. I was neglecting and missing beautiful moments with my family because scrolling my feed was “more important.” I felt convicted by God in the most beautiful and relieving of ways to be done with social media. In 2020 I deleted both Facebook and Instagram and I haven’t regretted it at all. It was as if a weight was lifted off of me. I feel free.
My cat forced me into this by knocking my phone in the bathtub. Shows how bad I was, it went in the bathroom with me. Going those few days without the constant notifications was truly eye opening to how much I was missing out on, with my daughter especially. This is such a wonderful message.
I've never joined Instagram, pulled out of Facebook, and simply enjoy utube for videos such as yours, decorating, cooking, even cleaning videos. Entertainment during my down time. Period. Your video simply further convinced me my choice to ignore so much of social media is right for me.
What a powerful, thought provoking and honest video. Thank you for posting this. I’ve been noticing how social media can steal precious moments and keep you from being “present in the moment” so I’m trying to spend less time with my phone in my hand. Some days it’s truly a struggle and that bothers me. So 2022 is a less social media for me as well
Hillary, you inspire me in so many ways. I actually feel that you have taught me so much since finding your channel. I love your refreshing honesty and wholesome lifestyle. I couldn't agree more with what your saying today.
Great advice…from a young person. I see my granddaughters with the phone in their hands all the time. Even when they are visiting. And they are young adults. Thank you.
We have become such a rude society. Everyone has their phone in hand, texting, instead of giving undivided attention to the ones you are with......even at luncheons and showers.
I gave up social media in December as part of a challenge and I’ve been so at peace and more content that I don’t want to go back. Thanks for sharing your journey!
I’ve been debating deleting Instagram and Facebook for a while now and I just hadn’t pulled the plug. This video sealed the deal for me and I just took them both off my phone. They aren’t serving me well and I don’t want to miss out on being present with my kiddos while they’re so young. Thank you for posting this and inspiring me to take the steps needed to be more in the moment with my family 🥰
YES! Last year I decided to take a month off of instagram. When that month ended I just never went back. It will be a year in February and I have noticed the truth of everything that you brought up. It's been so freeing to not feel that constant pull to need more in my life to feel better. And whether or not influencers realize it they often make people feel less and not more. I certainly didn't need that in my life and I don't know many people that do! 💕
I congratulate you. I don’t have Instagram and all of my friend think Iam crazy. I rather read,or do things around my home. 👍😘 I don’t have to be posting every time I go or do something with my family. Great video
This is exactly how I feel about IG. I check my messages, occasionally post if I think its worth sharing, other than that I stay off the app. I get knots in my stomach sometimes just to even open the app bc I compare myself every time I scroll. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for sharing! I deleted FB & IG about 3 years ago and it was life changing for all the reasons you said and more! I gained so much head space back that I didn’t realize was used up by things that didn’t matter and I was able to fill it with so many things I wished I had time for!
I totally agreed with you, Hilary. I am on the same journey, I don't have Facebook for many years and took Instagram out of my phone last year and it is so good to be present !!! Love your channel !!!
You are smart beyond your years my dear!!! You GET it, it's a shame so many others don't. I'm 63 this year and wisdom of the ages is real. Hillary, you are a beautiful person inside and out, enjoy every second of your family, you are truly blessed 😊
Great insights to share with your viewers!! Sometimes we can get so caught up in what others are doing we don’t live out and enjoy our own lives!! As an older viewer, I so appreciate the value of your thoughts today!! God bless you!!
I completely agree with your points! I took a break from Instagram this year as well! It was refreshing. I found it so much easier to not compare myself with others.
I've never had an instagram account I don't have a Facebook account or tweeter or anything else. I enjoy you tube because of the educational purpose I get from it, like learning more things about sewing, cooking and gardening. I found your channel and enjoy watching it. Thanksgiving for sharing!
Social Media is really bad honestly. All of it. I am trying to get out more and put the phone down more. Even though I am busy with work. I think its so great to go for walk and enjoy nature. Remember something, you never know whats going on behind the scenes in these photos of perfect people and perfect homes in the internet. Usually its lots of debt and lots of filters and of course taking photos in certain angles. I am 50 and I dont compare anymore. I just look at my house and take inspiration from where I find it. You are a HUGE inspiration to people and you dont even know it.
Love this! I completely agree 150%! I got rid of FB in May of 2020. Almost 2 years & I don’t miss one second. I have an IG, that I personally don’t post on but use to observe others’ accounts. I allow myself 1 hour-ish per day. That’s it. This new world of tech can be a great thing at times for certain things, but ultimately I think it’s kind of sad if you really think about it. It’s just taken generations out of actual reality. Hindered social skills. Contributed to comparison/depression/self acceptance. Etc. I’m so thankful I grew up in a time w/out the new world stuff. I have such treasured memories. I wish we still had that for everyone.
It's been over a year for me too. I have no regrets. The one time I was tempted to go back to Instagram was when my local thrift store was offering a 50% off coupon for Instagram followers. 😂 I read 30 books last year, this year, my goal is 50! 😅 I'm four in to my goal and starting my fifth today. So grateful. Books add so much more to my life in way of inspiration and encouragement than Instagram ever did. 👏Take care Hilary! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Yes! A few months ago I cut out social media during the week. When I would jump on there on weekends I found I didn’t miss a thing. It’s the same stuff regurgitated by different influencers. Time is precious why waste it staring at a screen. The internet/social media is just a golden calf, that is at least what God has put on my heart lately. You have inspired me to put it down completely. Thank you
YOU have just spoke the word !!!!!! CONTENT - I always tell people there a BIG difference between being content and being happy. You my dear friend understand that. I’m so stinking proud of you!
What wisdom!!! I don't have data on my phone, so I never use it other than for calls. It keeps me from checking media unless I'm home and on my desktop.
I have always look forward to your videos. You are so wise beyond your years, and I always appreciate all that I learn from you. May God continue to bless you and keep you and your Family safe.
What sage advice! The noise of the world is so loud that you are so right, we have forgotten how to listen to silence and enjoy the moment we are in now. Let’s all open our eyes to abundance that we all ready have. Thank you
Great & brave choice ✊ I have quit FB for 9 years now You don’t know what you are missing unless you try quitting God bless you & your family Greetings from Egypt 🤗
Hilary, I love what you said. I agree with you 100%. I am not on social media at all. I do watch RUclips, however, that’s only been in the last year or so. There is so much life to live & its way more fun without a phone in your hand or worrying about how many likes your picture gets. I hope this video gets lots of views, people need to hear what you said!
I am on facebook but I don't spend much time on it but youtube gets me lots. I'm no on Instagram or Ticktock or others. I do need to curve my time on youtube. The only reason I remain on Facebook is too keep up with family who post and I enjoy seeing.
It is wonderful that you have stopped and realized what is making you happy right where you are. And that is what your family will feel also. I have been watching you for some time. and You are so calm, and deliberate in you life in your home. You will get paid back 2 fold. I am on face book and have often wanted to give it up. There is not much for me.. I do have friends there that post pictures of their grand children. But I do not rely on it to keep me occupied. You have it!!! thank you Joyce
This is why I love your channel! Doing what’s best for you and what’s best for your family will always be admirable! Thank you for your encouragement and inspiration.
It is really good to hear you talking about this. I only use utube and that is definitely enough for me. I have never had a cell phone and from what I see around me, I am glad I don’t. My iPad is addictive enough. I have never heard the saying, comparison is the thief of joy. I will remember that going forward. Thank you for that. And thank you for your honesty.
Hillary, I love watching you but I rarely comment but you are so authentic, confident and content in you own skin this is truly a admirable quality….thank you!
Great video! I stopped all social media last January except for my few favorites on RUclips. For me it was the best decision ever. The negativity was bringing me down and I realized how much precious time I was wasting. I deleted the apps and don’t have any plans to go back. I do miss my family and friends that live in the UK but now when we message each other it has value not just silly memes.
You are the push that I needed to step up of the Instagram world, lately I've been feeling so addicted to reels, and I've wasted so much time. Thank you for this video, I love your channel. Hugs from Chile ❤️🇨🇱❤️
I truly get this! I probably post something on IG once or twice a year, but I do check it everyday. Which is something I’m trying to change. On the weekends, I try my best not to go on IG at all. I’m trying to limit to maybe 3x a week. I go on Facebook every few months, if that. My self esteem seems to lessen when I’m on social media to much. So I’m trying to limit the amount of times I go on. I also need to clear out who I’m following.
Amen! I’m not a social media addict, but I do compare myself to others on RUclips since I’m a small youtuber … I stepped away a couple months from uploading video, but now I’m ready to get back to boldly to what I enjoy 😊 Thanks for reminders 🌻❤️
So funny, as I’ve increasingly felt like I was losing far too much time to instagram. I don’t quite have the same concerns about how posts would make me feel as I just loved to see what the people I follow would post but I decided this year that I had to cut down. It’s been a week so far and I have to say I haven’t really missed it at all and hope that I’m being a little more productive, am giving myself more time, and being more in the moment. 😊
I really needed to hear this...cause I do this! I spend too much time on my phone and feel my life is slipping by and I need to make the changes necessary. Thanks for this! 🥰❤
I love hearing this Hilary! I took a short step back from IG last year, when I wanted to focus on my channel and I loved the extra time I had on my hands. Like you, I filled that time with looking around or doing other things. I for some reason felt the inaccurate need to go back and keep posting, but going into the new year, I have been contemplating no more posting on IG, at least until I get our new old home in order, which could be the end of the year. This video just gave me the kick in the pants I needed. I am going to let my followers know I am taking a long and much needed hiatus and if they want me, they can find me here. From one East Coast gal to another... Thank you!
Love this! Instagram and uploading to RUclips were my primary sources of social media as well. I have been off Instagram for maybe over 2 years now. My goal was for 1 week off…. And now I can’t imagine having it. It’s very wonderful!
Well said, Hilary, your words are full of Godly wisdom for all ages!! I limit my subscriptions on YT, IG, and FB and only watch first thing in the morning and then I am done for the day. You are the number one person that I follow and I so look forward to you seeing. I love your family content, your Godliness, and how you live your life. Funny how I never compare myself to you, I just ENJOY what you have to offer. You have been such a blessing over the last eight years! You've grown so much and so has your lovely family. You are a blessing to this community and we love you very much! Be blessed today dear Hilary ~ Kimmie 💕
Barely made it through the video and I liked it! It’s so true. I feel “guilty” when I don’t post my kids or whatever because it’s so normal to do it. I wasn’t brought up with all this and I think the same thing, who cares what I’m doing. Do people really care? And it definitely hit home you saying comparison is the thief of joy because I am constantly comparing the minute I log on. I only use Facebook for PTA stuff and town events otherwise I’d delete it.
I have never been interested in IG but I do love RUclips. I can watch church service, listen to Christian music, even watch the 50s black and white tv shows ie Hazel, Life With Father...quality family programming. And I have found so many youtubers that have content worth my time. Love your channel Hillary..allways worthwhile. Great video.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Bravo to this Hilary!!!! I deactivated my personal account last summer when I thought I was going to lose my husband to covid. I realized that what is here my home and around me in my presence was the most important thing to me and getting someone else's approval was and is impossible. I still have a hobby account to share my thrift and clearance finds and it just for fun. My mind feels so different from last year.
Thank you for posting this. It has been on my heart for months to delete social media but I just couldn’t get myself to do it, as you said, it is incredibly addicting. I am 28 and have been on social media since I was 12 (started with a MySpace page), so pretty much my entire life. But social media is taking so much away from me. I’m unable to reach any of my personal goals, haven’t been reading the Bible, and am just constantly comparing my life to everyone else’s. Your video was so convicting and it was the final message I needed to hear. Will be deleting social media off my phone and just checking in on my laptop every once in a while (which shouldn’t be an issue, since I hardly ever use my laptop). I can’t wait to become a better wife, mom and daughter of God. Thank you 🙏🏻
I got off Instagram and Facebook a year or two ago. I really noticed the same things you did. Even ads on RUclips before or during a video can get me worrying or anxiety filled. I think Facebook especially made me discontent and fearful on a daily basis.
Can't wait to watch this! I was never on IG that much but I took both FB and IG off my phone and iPad months ago. Best decision ever! I am on YT a lot but all my channels are like my extra group of "friends" who don't even know me 😂 if I need to know something about what's going on with fb I can just ask hubby to pull it up and I gotta say I almost never ask!
I only use Facebook for the Market Place too. lol You're 100% correct where we do all need to go back to our younger years where we didn't have the massive social media influence that we do today. It's better to just BE BORED! Have a great day!
That's what I'd like to do too. I'm so addicted though! I've taken time off by temporarily deactivating my account. I'm fine when I do that, but if I use it only for marketplace I seem to have no self-control! Do you have any tips?
@@rosannasauereisen2827 I got rid of fb two years ago. Before I was ready to do that, I deleted the app, so that I had to go to my search engine, type in FB and then my name and password each time I wanted to check it. That was how I started to wean myself off of it, because then it wasn’t just an easy click.
What an awesome video! You couldn't have said it any better. You are one of my favorite on you tube. You are authentic and so real. I think you are beautiful. I have loved watching you remodel your home. I adore your parenting skills. Keep doing what you do.
Very well said. Wish more people are like you. I empathize with people who share other peoples content as their own just to post something... Love your videos ❤️
Me too! I took over a year off and don’t regret it one bit. I noticed how distracted everyone around me really is. Even sitting at red lights, everyone is on their phones. I just feel so much more in the moment now. High five!
You are a very wise old soul in a young woman's body. Thanks for sharing this ... it is so important. My husband and I went out for breakfast a while ago and a young Mom with her two daughters were sitting at the next table. The Mom had her face in her phone the entire time they were there. Not once did she engage in a conversation with her daughters. It broke my heart. Wasted time that she could have used to bond with her girls, teach them something important, or just see what was going on in their precious young lives.
This is a lovely video. Ironically, I had to take a break from *your* channel for the same reasons you had to break from Instagram. Your children let you get things done... but mine do not (no matter how hard I work at it). I find if I watch too many of your videos, I compare myself to you and get jealous of all you can do in a day. I LOVE your beautiful home and DIY spirit but at this time in my life, I have to have it in very small doses. Love to you and your family.
Congratulations Hilary....way to go......a great message ! I don't do Instagram nor do I have a youtube channel, tho' I watch a select few youtube channels I do enjoy and yours is certainly one. I do Facebook and a few favorite youtube channels I watch is plenty enough.
Bravo! You are so very right about everything you said! It's too easy to get trapped by comparing...way too easy and then we end up second guessing ourselves! That's It's whole reason for being! You are amazing!!!❤
Great video! I personally am rarely on Instagram because I much prefer to spend my free time on RUclips that I watch on my IPad. It has literally replaced cable for me. I can easily select the content I want and since I pay monthly for You Tube Red, it’s commercial free! I still occasionally am on FB but since I’m a Grandparent, this is how I can easily keep up my friends that I no longer live nearby and see pics of all of their cute grandchildren and share pics of mine. So for that reason alone, I am still on FB.
love love love this❤ I've been off Facebook and Instagram for 2 years now and have felt way better without realizing those apps were bugging me . I follow a few people I connect with on RUclips and tictok but next goal is to not use tictok as much either.
As usual Hilary you are full of wisdom & thoughtfulness. Most importantly becaming comfortable in boredom. Dawn from the Minimal Mom says creativity lies just past boredom, she actually was referring to children but I believe it's true for all of us. Thank you for sharing your growth.
Social media has caused me to spend so much money. I have stopped watching Dollar Tree hauls because I was spending so much money on stuff I never used and it sits in my craft room. I have a budgeting goal this year that I am going to meet. I never had IG and glad that I never did.
I started focusing more on my own homemaking journey and my own life, right around the time I officially deleted IG from my phone and stopped using it entirely. That was around the same time I found your channel and started listening to your videos while doing chores, etc. It's been great. I used to use IG every day for my business but something in me just couldn't take it anymore. I haven't gone back!
There is much wisdom in this video. Looking at electronic pictures instead of the real world around us is guaranteed to create or exacerbate mental stress. (No matter the content, it's still someone else's view, not our own.) No wonder the past decades have seen such a rise in mental illness!
Girl!! God just used you in a mighty way. I feel so convicted(in a good way) to step back, but I am totally addicted to the keeping up with everyone and everything bug. that is smart to limit it to certain times...

YES
AMEN!!!!!
You said it perfectly about social media filling the void instead of what God has planned to fill it.
Right on point!
I’m so glad we didn’t have social media when I raised my son who is 34 years old now. He got my full attention all the time. I was never bored. Thanks for sharing with us occasionally.
A mom is truly never “bored” ☺️

This is wonderful. I got off Facebook today.
I’ve wasted years of my precious life on social media.

For such a young woman, you are wise beyond your years!
Thank you! You are a woman rooted in wisdom.
What sage advice! The noise of the world is so loud that you are so right, we have forgotten how to listen to silence and enjoy the moment we are in now. Let’s all open our eyes to abundance that we all ready have. Thank you
Great & brave choice ✊
I have quit FB for 9 years now
You don’t know what you are missing unless you try quitting
God bless you & your family
Greetings from Egypt 🤗
Hilary, I love what you said. I agree with you 100%. I am not on social media at all. I do watch RUclips, however, that’s only been in the last year or so. There is so much life to live & its way more fun without a phone in your hand or worrying about how many likes your picture gets. I hope this video gets lots of views, people need to hear what you said!
I am with you on everything you said. I haven't been on Facebook in over 3 years, it is the BEST thing I have done for myself. 😊
Wow so many people waste their time watching it but am so glad you are now living your best life for you. Congratulations on taking that step.
Yes to everything!! Social media (not just Instagram) always makes me feel like I need to have something or do something!
Bravo Hillary! I left Facebook a year ago on January 20. Best decision I ever made.
I am always amazed at your beautiful thoughts, grace and simplicity. We need more people like you.
You just said all the right things. We get sucked into scrolling so easily. Great video, thank you for sharing it
So funny, as I’ve increasingly felt like I was losing far too much time to instagram.
Thank you!
Much love Linda! ❤️
I kept wanting to add likes to this video the longer you spoke! Thank you for this, one of your best.
Such a healthy perspective! Good job! 🙂
Thank you, thank you for voicing these thoughts. I never used Instagram, got off Facebook over a year ago - best thing I've done in a long time.
This is so refreshing to hear. Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey with us. It's inspiring.
Thank you 🙏🏻
EXCELLENT VIDEO.....YOU ARE A VERY WISE YOUNG WOMAN.....GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY !!
I got off Instagram and Facebook a year or two ago. I really noticed the same things you did. Even ads on RUclips before or during a video can get me worrying or anxiety filled. I think Facebook especially made me discontent and fearful on a daily basis.
This is such an amazing message. I actually needed to leave a comment !! Love your channel and content. Thank you so much. ❤️
Its amazing the time one has when they drop all those things
What an awesome video! You couldn't have said it any better. You are one of my favorite on you tube. You are authentic and so real. I think you are beautiful. I have loved watching you remodel your home. I adore your parenting skills. Keep doing what you do.
So glad you shared. Have noticed that Instagram is also turning into sales pitches. Love your videos! Very calming!!
I totally agree. I quit IG last year during Covid and the lockdown. I thought I would miss it so much, but found that I don’t miss it at all 👍
Very well said.
Ugh, that is depressing, I see it all the time
I'm in the middle of a facebook fast right now through our church. I do it every year, and it is so freeing!
lol I must be tired this morning… I read you were in a Facebook fight with your church. Haha.
😆😆😆
Such an important post! Thank you, dearest!
Yes, yes, yes!!!! Comparison truly IS the thief of joy...thanks for sharing that, dear, xo
P.S. Could you share your favorite reliable news source?
My phone is my crutch. To not think. To not feel. I lost my son 4 years ago.
True true true! Thank you dearest Hillary, love you! 💞
A great reminder to enjoy the moment and not get lost in social media. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks 4 sharing! Lots 2 ponder! Great choice! 👏👏👏💞
Love this video! Thank you- you are such a joy!
I think you made a lot of great points! But I did miss you there. And I did love your posts.
love love love this❤ I've been off Facebook and Instagram for 2 years now and have felt way better without realizing those apps were bugging me . I follow a few people I connect with on RUclips and tictok but next goal is to not use tictok as much either.
Thank you Hilary, you have so much wisdom. I so agree with you. It's important to be grateful for what we have in life. Enjoy every day.
Sage advice Hilary and thanks for sharing your experience!
I do agree , I am so quilty of being on Fb and now on Instagram to to much when I am at home . Just never thought about it. Thank you for this video.
As usual Hilary you are full of wisdom & thoughtfulness. Most importantly becaming comfortable in boredom. Dawn from the Minimal Mom says creativity lies just past boredom, she actually was referring to children but I believe it's true for all of us. Thank you for sharing your growth.
So true!
