  • While highly unlikely, the possibility of a violent incident occurring at Georgian is a reality. If you ever find yourself in harm’s way, the most important thing you can do is take quick and decisive action. In this video, you’ll learn steps to take if you encounter an active shooter or person posing an immediate threat to life on campus.
    What is an active shooter?
An active shooter is someone engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, there is no apparent pattern or method to how they choose their victims. Active shooter situations can be over within 10 to 15 minutes. For this reason, it’s important you’re prepared to take the actions necessary to protect yourself.
    Warning
This video simulates the conditions you could experience during an active shooter event. Some may find the content disturbing. We recommend you watch the video with a friend or colleague so you can talk about it after. If you think you need to speak with a professional, there are resources available:
    · Students can access free and confidential counselling services at Georgian or contact Good2Talk at 1.866.925.5454 - a 24/7 postsecondary student helpline that offers free professional and anonymous support
    · Members of Georgian staff can access the Employee Assistance Program through Shepell at 1.800.387.4765
    · The Simcoe County Crisis Response Service, including a mobile crisis unit, is also available 24/7 to Barrie and area residents at 705.728.5044 or 1.888.893.8333
    · Dial 211 to connect with other local organizations in your community
    Questions about campus safety
If you have any questions, concerns or simply wish to speak with a member of Campus Safety and Security, call 705.722.5100 or ext. 5100 from within the college. To report a violent situation, call 705.722.4000 or ext. 4000 from within the college.
    Lockdown procedure
Georgian’s lockdown procedure provides direction on how to make informed decisions under extreme circumstances. The procedure emphasizes three courses of action addressed in this video and recommended by emergency planning experts and police:
    1. Escape, if possible
    2. Hide and barricade, if escape is not possible
    3. Fight, as a last resort
Learn more and read the procedure at GeorgianCollege.ca/lockdown.

I have instructed my kids to do the following. First thing, is find an object and break out a window and get out of the school as quickly as possible. Run along the side of the building and find cover such as a parking lot with cars, trees, or other buildings. The second thing, is I do not want my kids to be a fish in the barrel. Grab a heavy object such as a chair, three hole punch, or even the blade on a paper cutter and post up at the door on the side. As soon as the bad guy walks in, smack him as hard as they can in the face, head, on the arm holding the weapon, etc. Disable and disorientate the bad guy and then get away. If he is on the ground smack him again. Take is weapon and disable it by either smashing it with an object, break it, etc. I refuse to let my kids be a victim of these crazies.

Do not break a window unless absolutely necessary. It will only attract attention towards you.

We don't do active shooter drills we just have a very safe security system and sirens everywhere. You can't walk anywhere on our campus without having a camera, sensor or security alarm next to you. And all doors are 5 inches thick.

I'm homeschooled so this has a less of a chance to happen to me, but if this did, I'd probably faint. I've fainted before VERY easily so I wouldn't be surprised if I did. I feel absolutely AWFUL for the people who have had this happen at their school. I also feel awful for the shooter. What kind of pain must make he/she do something so cruel, so sick, so disgusting. I pray that every kid who has died has found Christ. So they can live an eternal paradise. I also hope the same for the shooter. No one deserves to go to hell. No matter what kind of sin you've done, God will forgive you. And he wants you to come to Heaven. It's just some people don't know Him. I pray that EVERYBODY will find Christ. Thank you for reading this comment.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
