    While this is pretty cool, my opinion is there just isn't enough to be gained to make an electric water pump worthwhile. First, the statement that it flows more is only partially true. It will flow more at lower RPMs, but I can guarantee you that the stock belt driven pump will outflow this electric pump at higher RPMs. I do not know the exact RPM where the flow would be equal, but as an example, the electric pump may flow more coolant up to 3K RPM, but above that the mechanical pump may take over. Just look at the size of this pump's hoses compare to the radiator hoses, clearly it isn't designed to move as much fluid as the OEM pump.
    There is not much power to be gained either, and any gain in power will come at the expense of flow. With all else being equal, it takes a fixed amount of power to move a certain amount of fluid through the system. For example, let's say it takes 100 watts of power to push 20 GPM through the cooling system. That's just how much power it takes, plain and simple. You can either take that power right from the engine through the belt or you can add that load to the alternator and make it harder to turn, the power is ultimately being produced by the engine either way. There is no free energy. If there is a gain of a few HP it is simply as a result of moving less fluid through the system at higher RPMs. You don't get to move more fluid and use no power doing so, it takes energy to push fluid. The one exception to this rule is if you don't use an alternator and you just charge your battery with an external charger, then you are ultimately taking power from the wall outlet instead of from the engine.
    There are also a lot more ways this setup can fail. Really the only 2 ways the stock setup can fail is if the belt breaks/falls off or if the water pump's seal fails. Other than that, you can be assured that it is pumping if the engine is running. This setup has a motor, wiring, relay, and more hose connections, any of which can fail and end up costing you your engine. So from a reliability standpoint, the OEM setup wins hands down.

    • @11042995
      @11042995 2 месяца назад

      Lots of word there bud yet the point is easley refuted. Max engine rpm flows less than a 35gpm electric pump. Electric pump controlled by a Davies craig controller.

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 2 месяца назад

      @@11042995 Do you have data to support your claim of a 35 GPM electric pump outflowing the stock K series pump at max RPM? I haven't yet been able to find a flow spec for a K series pump, but the flow rate for a 130HP F22 Accord engine's water pump is 42 GPM at 6K RPM according to the FSM, so a 200+HP K series is almost certainly higher than that.
      Also, remember that the advertised flow rate is in no way indicative of the actual flow rate through the system since the flow rate isn't measured against a restriction and the cooling system is a pretty significant restriction. The viscosity of the fluid is a major factor too. As an example, coolant is thicker and harder to push than straight water.
      The simple fact is that it takes power to push water no matter how you look at it. In this context, if power consumption is reduced, either the flow rate was reduced or the pumping efficiency was increased. The specs for one electric water pump says it draws 7 amps at 12 volts, which is 84 watts. If the stock water pump uses just 3HP at max RPM, that's 2237 watts. How would an electric pump be 25X more efficient than a belt driven pump?
