I just see no point of paying him +$35m for one year when you can sign two starting guards for that price and get draft picks if you can tag and trade him.

We are not acknowledging how tenuous were the 14 wins. Most of them wound up being quite close, and the reason that happened was the same reason the Vikings lost twice each to the same two teams. Weak up the middle, almost no running game. Aaron Jones is one of very few runners that can make a positive play with no help from the O Line, but he's not a bell cow back. None of that weakness was due to Sam Darnold. Beating the Lions and the Rams would have required better pass protection and a considerably better running game. Very few NFL quarterbacks and O Lines have the talent to foil the pass rushes of LA and Detroit.
Unfortunately, this argues for losing Darnold and doing everything possible to bolster the O Line, then draft a couple good RBs.

Assuming Darnold walks for his bag of money, what are the odds Jones sticks around on a team friendly deal, since he already go his bag of money, if they feel that JJ needs a full year as an active backup?

I do agree that I’ll support KOC’s decision either way but someone is still going to have to explain how JJ is going to improve by only taking 2nd team reps and not playing for two years after not throwing a ton of passes in college. I don’t see it.

First, Vikings have to keep saying they're still interested in Sam, otherwise you're basically submarining the trade value if that's your play. Second, does anyone actually believe this offense is going to look the same with JJ at the helm? It better not, if the team is going to succeed. McArthy is not the deep ball slinger Sam is. He's a QB used to a power run, quick pass offense. That means O-line MUST be the priority even over Sam Darnold.
The transition tag scenario you proposed where they match a teams offer and trade Darnold wouldn’t happen. The Vikings would be stuck with the signing bonus money. So they would be stuck with 50-60 million??

Vikings need Sam Darnild to shepherd JJ McCarty to be a Super Bowl Winner. No point to get into playoffs and not win Suoerbowl! Besides, it makes sure JJ’s knee is indeed 100% healed!

Doesn't seem like it. signing a transition tag seems like a surefire way to let him walk out the door and get nothing in return.
Transition tag is useless, can't trade the player and you lose any compensatory currency
I would be more okay with bringing Kirk back for the league minimum than Sam for about 40 mil.

Did you guys see the way Kirk played this year?!!! I rather have Sam, it was only his first year, he might be better in his 2nd year, I rather take that chance than going back to Kirk.
