    Would have liked the discussion to be focused strictly on etorque. This turned out to be just an overall review of the truck. I know the other options are nice, but I want to know how etorque functions, what economy it offers, and if it's worth it. I don't care about the air suspension, the driver position, or any of the other mentions that wasted video time.

      I just bought 2021 Big Horn with the 3.6L motor with eTorque and have been trying to figure out what it does. Some videos claim the 5.7L eTorque start/stop function saves 1.7 ounces of gas every 90 seconds. With $3.00 a gallon gas, this seems to be a penny every 19 seconds stopped. I can shut off the start/stop with a button each time I get in the truck, but I do not notice it stopping and starting. The truck needs to warm up before the start/stop is available. I hope the other functions of the eTorque are worthwhile. From what I can find, the extra lithium battery should last ten years or 150,000 miles, but I find that hard to believe.

      @@darrinstewart7622 thanks Darrin. It looks like the poster removed our back and forth discussion.
      I did end up buying an etorque hemi and I like it. The start stop is seamless with smooth function. I haven't noticed an not difference because it was on the truck from the start and I'm getting below rated mpgs as it sits.

    • @darrinstewart7622
      @darrinstewart7622 3 года назад

      @@DReinbolz I only have a hundred miles on mine. I tried to buy the cheapest version possible. 4x4 is the only option above base. I wanted fuel economy over power. The 3.6L motor choice is my biggest long term question. On my farm, the truck should haul mostly tools and fishing poles. I have tractors and a bigger truck for heavier work. I travel ten miles of country roads to buy a gallon of milk, so I do not want a truck that gets 14 mpg!

      I think it is fine. I usually turn off the stop/start. The stop/start works fine, but it seems strange sometimes. If pull in my driveway and put my foot on the break and think about a second, the engine shuts off. Then when I move the knob from drive to park, for some strange reason, the engine starts back up before I can shut it off with the button. I do not have a lot of miles on it, perhaps 1200. On a 63 mile trip each way, the computer said it got 23 miles per gallon, but the computer usually overestimates by 1 mile per gallon. This was mixture of small town and 55 mph rural highway driving. If I drive in local small towns a lot and move it out of the way in the barn a few times, the gas mileage drops to 17 miles per gallon. The cold engine burns a lot of gas. I did lose my fog lamps, but expect that to get fixed under warranty soon. @@dontelindsey5846

    Was gonna get a Silverado but I got the Etorque Ram 1500. Guess it’s better than having the lifters and transmission got out. Let’s just face it people , if we wanted to penny pinch MpG we wouldn’t have gotten a pick up truck . I drove from Florida to Va and filled up three times .. averaged 70-85 mph and my truck is lifted so it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Gas is just high right now which sucks . I cost about $80 to fill up on 89

    The 2022 Ram Laramie GT that I purchased has the V8 Hemi eTorque system in it, and I noticed a big increase in my MPG. I am getting 24 MPG currently. The system does more than launching and auto off, it also takes over power for the electronic devices and helps cool the air intake if you the Ram forced air intake, which helps the engine reduce load from the AC/Music and increase combustion efficacy via cooler air. BUT in the end, it depends how you use it, where you live and the environment. For me in the desert, im a huge supporter.

    I have a 2022 Hemi etorque which just happen to be in the Laramie I liked. I driven this truck for over a year and I don't believe it serves a useful purpose. I believe it was something to apease the EPA. When that etorque motor or the LiPo4 battery goes it's going to cost a hell of a lot more than the $200 up charge. Although the ecotorque system has 8yr/80k warranty. Wish I just had the Hemi only. Also the seamless start/stop identified in this video is no different than any other newer vehicle. If you have the air during hot weather, due to the power draw the mortor will restart in about 30-45 seconds.

  • @boonelipsey5393
    @boonelipsey5393 3 года назад +2

    Yes it does impact miliage. I had E-torque. I traded my truck in for one without. 2 to 3 miles to the gallon impact. And it's not a mild hybrid. It's an assist system. It restarts the motor. But it doesn't drive the motor.

    • @Hundert1
      @Hundert1 3 года назад +1

      So the e-torque version has a regular battery plus another one for the e-torque thing? I thought the e-torque actually gives us more power, at the beginning of driving only?

    • @boonelipsey5393
      @boonelipsey5393 3 года назад +2

      @@Hundert1 For about 1-1/2 rotations. The extra battery stores Regen power from the brakes and when the E-torque is generating power. Then that battery maintains the 12 volt battery. So you are correct. Very limited amount of assist. Not like a hybrid motor that actually runs the drivetrain. It also starts the motor in Stop Start rather than the starter. I think that may be the difference in gas milliage. It is auch better system than Stop Start that uses the starter. Much less harsh. Sometimes you don't even feel it.

    I own this truck, Longhorn Limited and eTorque is the most idiotic features you can add on. He starts off with the the whole "Shut Down/On" feature. Leave it up to RAM to develop a system that does not work at all in the entire southern half of the United States, Sierra Nevada or any other hot, cold, hilly or mountainous regions. With less than 12,000 miles I decided to talk my eTorque back to RAM to figure out why the truck NEVER shuts off/on at stops. In fact, most of Brian's diatribe is about the rest of the truck and not the obvious deficiencies of eTorque.
    As it turns out there is a list of reasons why this feature DOES NOT WORK shutting down and on at stops.
    A/C Turned on
    Heater Turned on
    Truck Facing up or down on Incline
    Steering Wheel turned more than X Degrees
    Temperature too hot or too cold
    Then you have understandable reasons such as doors open, seatbelts off, 48 volt battery low,
    Basically RAM developed a gas saving feature that has very little chance unless you are in a mild temperature area that is flat while you have the AC or heater off. Not sure where that is in the United States, but certainly not here in Florida.

      Yes, it can. But it has to be turned off every time you don't want it. It can not be permanently disabled.

    Super helpful video but why the snark about Prius drivers? Seriously? You want us off the road? Why so nasty? SMH.

      Prius drivers are card-carrying members of that honourable and historic organization known as the Anti-Destination League.

    DONT BUY with torque, terrible mpg I get average 12mpg mixed 50% city 50% highway. Go read on ram forums on terrible mpg on ram with etorque.

      I get terrible mileage because I drive for pleasure, not efficiency.

      @@starmc26 I've been living with E-torque in a 5.7 hemi ram for 3 years and I can tell you from experience, This system does nothing to help my MPG. E- Torque is a scam and when it breaks,, you will have to take out a second mortgage on your house to fix it.

    • @starmc26

      @@dkh1020 yeah ok, youd have to have the EXACT same truck, and weight, just without e-torque in order to compare, but you're too dumb to know that. The rest of us will take the ENGINEERS, and PROFESSIONALS word that it is better.

    There's A LOT to say and explain about the eTorque system. Probly could be a 20, minute video.
    BUT, I've only gotten thru 4 mins OF THIS VIDEO and the TITLE SHOULD BE
    "Ram Air Suspension".
    What a hack.
    C'mon man! Really?
