Have the same truck with E-Torque, the auto start/stop is seamless and un-noticable, because the E-Torque motor immediately lays down 130 ft-lbs. Personally I hate auto start/stop on non-hybrid vehicles .. but it usually works well with a hybrid.
when you change the gears you can see it front of you. Don`t need to look there down:) This is so great think that save so much space and the Truck looks inside much more nicer
My 2019 RAM 1500 Limited has the 5.7 Etorque. I never turn off auto stop/start, because it is unnoticeable. From a stop, the motor generator unit provides a 130 lb. ft. of torque instantly. Within a half tire rotation, the gas engine is back on and you don't even realize that it was off.
Great honest review as always. I’ve got this same truck, except with the 22” wheels. Initially, I was not crazy about the dial shifter and did crank the volume on the stereo once putting into drive. Now, I don’t even think about it, my hand just goes there and i flick it into gear and go, super easy. So far I love the truck including the styling, but to each their own. I didn’t get the etorque either, so no stop/start, but they all come with cylinder deactivation and that would be my biggest complaint. Quite often I will turn it off by setting the gear limiter to 8. Not a deal breaker, but a minor nuisance that could be fixed with a permanent off button. Great so far, but only 5k miles in, so time will tell. Right now, I’d definitely buy again.
It's too bad Ram ignored that ancient 5.7 Hemi. Same old outdated engine that hasn't been improved in over a decade. Pretty bad when the 5.3 is as fast as the 5.7.
Also, you don't have to look behind you most of the time anymore, at least I don't. I'm either looking out my front window, side mirrors, or backup camera. The dial is actually right next to the LCD for the camera, which is perfect in my book.
Yeah it only took me 4 months to figure out what each letter meant! (in my sarcastic voice) Nah but it doesn't take but 3 seconds to get used to it just the amount of time needed to switch it to the gear you want!!! DUH
@@AkioWasRight They do, but many find them clunky and it can busy up the steering column, that on FCA vehicles also has controls on the back of the steering wheel along with your blinker/windshield wiper, and in some cases paddle shifters. Rotaries are going to be the new norm soon, I'm pretty sure.
The shift knob feminine shifter. Almost like the shifter you expect in a soccer mom's van. Should have kept the column shifter which doesn't take any space away from the dash or console.
By the way the electric power steering is not new for 2019!!!!! I have a 2017 and it’s has it too and so did my 2015! I personally prefer the previous generations looks! The 19 looks like a tundra and Silverado had a hybrid baby!
Ram didnt come with power steering until 2014 when the grill went from the sunken look to a more bubble look. I damn near cried when they did the refresh in 2013.
I loved this video! My favorite Ram, check! The gorgeous desert that I’ve called home for over 40 years, Check! And a guy who looks great in a cowboy hat, Check!
Yeah it only took me 4 months to figure out what each letter meant! (in my sarcastic voice) Nah but it doesn't take but 3 seconds to get used to it just the amount of time needed to switch it to the gear you want!!! DUH
I’m glad you actually complained about the electronic shifter. I like them myself, but it sort of annoys me how car journalists/enthusiasts can be so distracted by something (the Ram’s beautiful cabin for example) and completely not care about something they usually don’t like in other vehicles i.e. an electronic shifter. Another example would be how some don’t like how a car won’t have a volume knob, but many don’t seem to mind how no new Tesla has a volume knob on the dashboard, but instead will go on and on about Tesla’s impressive technology.
Yes definitely get the extended warranty. Also go meet the service department and introduce yourself. Judging by my friends' 2019 Ram 1500's, you'll be dropping your truck off to have issues worked pretty often in the coming years.
I watched your Toyota LC video and you were very impressed with its off-roadability quality of feel and lack of shakes and rattles. How does the Ram compare? Great review as always.
Steve Hostetler i agree but the hemi is no slouch. As a complete package, the ram is a much better truck. Specially the interior. Not even the limited or platinum stand a chance.
I live on washboard roads and rocky dirt roads. It does show what kind of ride you have when youre driving on it. I have taken my 17 cummins longhorn to sandy Lone Rock in AZ and back home and notice the moment i get on paved road no rattling or interior squeaks. Its as quiet as i first drove off the lot. Nice review Sam on taking it that extra step cuz some of us that buy these luxury trucks wont have them in closed garages. Itll be outside collecting dust from the wind and going through the elements. Please review the other trims like a contractor ride or most bought edition. Including the rebel for off road enthusiasts.
I love my 19 RAM Laramie Black Edition. It does have the E-Torque system, which actually makes the auto/start/stop almost seamless in operation. Didn't care for it on my 17 Ford King Ranch Ecoboost at all, made the whole truck shutter when it started back up. By far, the best thing about the Ram's is the ride quality. Blows away the new F150 and don't even get me started on the "pogo stick" ride of the last 17 Silverado Z71 I test drove.
Glad to see you back. Good review, I'm glad that you put voice to the perception that FCA vehicles have questions about quality. I think the new Ram is gorgeous, but it's always that question of long term quality that keeps me from buying.
How can the gear dial confuse you? It Only has PRND, my 2 year old can remember or know which gear he's in! Maybe if it's that complicated you shouldn't be driving!
Looks good

Amazing truck i adore it from the first sight
The dial shifter is by far the easiest transmission shifter to use.
After an adjustment period I came to love the shift knob. The last thing I want is a shifter eating up valuable console space. The knob works great!!
Theres also a column shifter which GM still uses because they are smart
@@andybub45 So what! This are all electronic transmissions and a column shifter is useless old school outdated hardware.
@@paulehlers2225 I agree with you. There should still be an option for it though.
@@andybub45 I think you totally missed the point. Just like the smartphone you're watching this video on. Eventually you'll get it figured out.
Love the washboard test. Good helpful review
Awesome videos....please keep them up!!!
Great review. Appreciate the inclusion of taking these on desert roads at higher speeds to measure cabin feel.
I'm still happy with my ol Ram. But they do not put a usable car jack that can used with 20s & 22s though.
when you change the gears you can see it front of you. Don`t need to look there down:) This is so great think that save so much space and the Truck looks inside much more nicer
This truck with the Sport trim(all body color) in this color is one of the best looking pickups out there.
My next truck for sure. Thank you.

Great job on the review.
I’m gonna get a Ram later this year! They knocked it out of the park it is one of the nicest trucks I’ve seen!
What do you think of Ford F150 ?
Weird question, how does the suspension and comfort feel to that of the Honda Ridgeline? I realize they are in different classes...
Who else saw the rust already forming on the running board mounts?
It's not rust, It's dirt sticking to the grease or lubricant on the running board contact points.
@@universalautobroker That just as bad. The dust sticks to the grease and causes it to wear.
Exterior wise, I wished RAM used the barbed wire grill from the Limited for the Longhorn. I also wished there was a center console shifter.
Great review!
Great review !! Thank you
Great video! :)
How did the air conditioner work? Did it get cold or just barely cool?
Good to see ya dude. I've missed your reviews. Glad to see ya doing good. Thanx for this one.👍🏾
Great video. You do a fantastic job in your review. This is my first time watching and it was very good and informative.
Can you get an update in the 2020 tundra and 2020 Nissan pathfinder? Considering purchasing a family vehicle with usefulness.
Great review Sam! Good to have you back!
Offroad test looked good, how would you compare it to the Tundra on the washboard road?
You do some of the best reviews, really like your thoroughness. I hate the shift knob too. I noticed this has a CD player, what a surprise!
Like the smart phone you are watching this video on. Eventually you'll get it figured out.
I bought my 2019 Longhorn in November 2018 and I had 3 recalls in 3 months. Would suggest waiting till end of 2019 in buying one.
I agree, first model year will often have bugs. How do you like the truck over all though?
Man those new Rams are nice 👍

Great review. Honest opinions are what it's all about.
Nice truck but seriously 67k? Come on...pricing is becoming ridiculous!
It's a "Cowboy Cadillac" for sure! Wow that interior.
I like this guy🤠 great job on this RAM 🤛🐏
Liking that CD player. Shame that most manufacturers are ditching the CD option altogether.
Glad your back Sam. Great review and the new ram is really nice. They have set the bar especially for interior
Interior quality on the new RAM is outstanding, it makes the new GM trucks look already outdated.
It's too bad Ram ignored that ancient 5.7 Hemi. Same old outdated engine that hasn't been improved in over a decade. Pretty bad when the 5.3 is as fast as the 5.7.
@@hochhaul YEAH! So there!
The rotary shifter definitely takes some getting use to, but one you do, the extra space it gives is worth having it.

A gated column shifter frees up a similar amount of space without sacrificing the positive engagement of having an actual gear lever.

Lookin slick in the cowboy hat there Sam 😉😎
Some people can sport a cowboy hat and it sits well on them. Based on the comments, you may have to do a review on the hat.
looking good in the cowboy gear
Cowboy up!

You should be a model
God love those jeans
Another great review Sam and the hat is the perfect choice.
Its a very nice truck, too bad they arent reliable.
I like the old model more. ...it's more truck-like. And the old one can be had with a manual transmission, and that is huge.
The bumper just always looks like it's hanging off the fender on these new rams. Other than that it's a good looking truck
Nice leather seats nice review
16mpg? Dodge really needs to improve their engine mpg.
All you people who Bitch about the shift knob and day they prefer a lever or floor shifter are just a bunch of non conformist pussys!
You get used to that shifter in no time and then it's second nature. Good review.

The 2019 platinum titan is better.
