You can do this. We are a couple with a truck camper and we have a house in a forest. We’ve cleared over 200 trees for the driveway and the house. We are just normal people who work in IT. Let us know if you want some advice. We have his and hers chainsaws and a 6’ burn barrel to handle the branches and cut up chunks. You can do this.
Good decision! Be safe...let the pros do it. I'm sure it's probably more than you wanted to spend now, but you'll be so glad when it's done. Stay warm! Jane from SC ❤🙏 Wow! So many pretty trillium blooming under your trees!❤
Hindsight is always 20/20. Food for thought. Pay a tree professional to walk the property if it's heavily forested and there's issues with the trees. I learned a lesson. In some states there are programs available to maybe help
Connor & Amelia, I just love what you both are doing. Whether it's in the Lance or your new cabin your videos are just a comfort to me to watch. Just put you on, kick back, read a book & sip some tea. It's just so cool to see people living out their dreams and living their best life. All the best & Happy Belated Birthday to you Amelia!
I do not think you make a mistake. You as many young people do are learning this is Life. Having a property means you learn to be responsible property owners and as my Mother used to say “Where there is a will, there is a thousand ways!”. I am looking forward to the videos. Maybe making more videos will help financially to pay for the job. GodBless.
We know it hard to do but when we moved into our home in the woods we took approximately 100 trees down the 1st year, and over the next years probably another 100 but we have replanted and landscaped, and it looks great - it is your next great adventure
If the wood can be burned you can advertise and have some come for free to haul off the trees if you don't need it yourself. That would save some a lot of money. Just a thought.
Protect the house for sure. Parked at my parent’s house one day a huge decayed branch fell and missed my car by inches ( I was visiting them in Michigan). Nothing is worth your safety. Here in Florida with a large oak, you’re looking at 5 to 7K for removal of one tree, especially between a house or close to the house the price goes up. You have years and lots of room in your favor. It will be beautiful.
It looks like you have a lot of lilies of the valley under the trees that will look and smell wonderful in the spring 😊 And keep the big logs you can sell them as firewood 😊
Hi guys. I feel your pain. I had a beetle infestation where I live some 20-30 years ago. I bought the house 9 years ago. I had a tree company come to give me an estimate to remove 13 trees that were endangering my house. I ended up hiring him to remove 120 trees for $21000. Totally worth it. They took down only dead trees. And I got ~15 cord of wood out of it.
The trillium are beautiful! They are my home province of British Columbia’s provincial flower! Thanks for the great video and looking forward to next week!
You guys can do this we also have a truckcamper and over the 30 years that we’ve had our property we’ve cleared over 500 trees ourselves. It’s not easy and sometimes it sure isn’t fun but it is something that requires a lot of hard work but you can do it.🪵🇺🇸
Bummer. You can do it in stages. Start with the ones near the house. Plant some nice conifers - cedar, hemlock, doug fir, maybe a giant Sequoia. Always work to be done. Can you get a couple of quotes? Wow! Awesome field of trillium! ❤
Could you have the tree service take out the worst trees that could hit your home and perhaps only partially cut some of the tall trees and let you cut the bottom of them at a later date? You could do that at your own pace.
That’s a good decision. I know it hurts financially and I can relate. My air conditioning went out last week unexpectedly. I get to buy a new furnace and ac.
Take a deep breath and relax, you're doing the right thing for your property. Paying for the 3 day downing of dangerous trees and leaving trees on the ground is smart. The chips and trees left behind on your land is invaluable. Free firewood and/or trail marking and the chips can be used for multiple applications FOR FREE. That stuff costs a lot of money plus you have to haul it to your property if you did go out and buy it. And YES I'm excited for the tree felling videos!
Welcome to Michigan lol! Once the trees are down you will be surprised how fast new growth will appear, this time next year it will look all different!
Well, I'm sorry you have to go through that. Your peace of mind will be worth it. Just a bummer. I had that sort of news today too. Need a rebuilt transmission. 😞 Hang in there. The area you walked in was really lovely!
I agreed with some of the other comments. The smaller trees and the ones down on the ground you should try to handle them, making the amount much smaller. I would have who ever you get to remove everything , the wood chips will have bugs and can go to the good trees . Last if you feel this is not something you want to do, always get at least 3 quotes. You will save money by doing this . 55 trees will be a lot of expense you will be very surprised at the number he’s about to charge you. Shop this …
Big job for sure but once you get this part behind you you will be glad you did it. If anyone can get through this it would be the two of you!My family owned a property in the woods. A Lot of work but sure worth it. Dad said you get warmed up twice when you heat with wood. Once when you collect and prepare it and once when you burn it.
Plant a small beautiful sugar maple tree in your yard. They grow slowly but will provide you 50 to 70 years of absolutely the most gorgeous and gigantic orange leaves in the fall. You will love it.
Thousands of beautiful white trilliums! I don't think I've ever seen so many in one place. The heartbreaking part is that in the long run, they won't survive without the shade of those threes. 😔
Tree cutting can be very dangerous especially when there’s significant damage to the tree. I’m sure the cost is outrageous but it’s better than paying with your life. You guys will get better with the chain saw as time goes on and you will feel more confident as well.
You are making the right decision. Those trees must come down. We are sorry that you have to deal with this cost right at the beginning of your new adventure. We are super excited for you guys.
30 or so years ago the place we lived had a bunch of pine trees. There were 2 huge pines right behind the house, took 3 people to reach around them. Pine beetles got in them. I could hear them chewing when I walked out the door. Big problem with them so close to the house and a power line close. They were close enough to the power lines that the power company came cut then for free, but no clean up. That was fun, not! We had all the pines cut. A guy cut them in return for the timber. I hate pines so didn't bother me at all, lol. If ya'll can get all the bad trees out I would think it would help the value of your place when you decide to sell it some day.
That's a big project, 16ft extension ladder, tie a 100ft heavy rope 10ft up only, hook the other end to that truck, put a slight tension on the rope. Notch the tree on the truck side only then pull it down. Those trees would be no problem but without experience you might want to pass on that. (Electric chainsaw)
I would only remove the trees that could fall on the cabin. The rest is standing firewood. We have 15 acres of forest. The dead trees are fuel. Or sent to the sawmill. I rarely cut a live tree for firewood. I say this as one who has only viewed the video. You see it up close. For what it’s worth.
We live on 80 acres in WI. We have such pretty tree in our huge front yd. Due to a fungus, we lost about 20 of them. I guess it was early on, but, my husband and friends cut them down themselves. We had just moved to the property from CA, so it was a bit of a shock. The yard does not look very pretty w/all those trees removed. Best wishes to you, good luck.
It’s expensive no doubt. We just had two huge dead trees that cost us 2400 bucks. If I were you I would see which way the wind normally blows and just do a few at a time.
To bad you can't find someone to come clear your whole lot out in exchange for the wood. Make sure you have good homeowners insurance just incase one of those trees hit the house. Could be a total loss. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Can you use any of the trees for firewood for that wonderful wood burner?😍 Or does the fungus prohibit that? It’s still gonna be an amazingly beautiful property.❤ Congratulations!
Sadly the fungus continues to rot the trees once they're cut so the firewood is only good for a couple years. By the time it's seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all. But there are lots of downed Ash trees that we still have to process for firewood!
Wow! 55 trees! Planning on building a garage/workshop? Did you ever find out if tornados been through there? You’ll have lots of firewood. Austin seems to be the right guy for the job. Good luck.
Look at it this way, its an investment in your property and definitely a safety issue. The property will be worth more when you're done and you can use the mulch from the trees to make trails!

Do you have a backup heating system in addition to your woodstove? just curious. My husband and I have lived many places with only wood heat. We are in our 70’s so decided to just have gas heat. (No. Idaho).
Cleaning out the bad ones is good. Buggy wood should be burned so it doesnt spread.the rest is firewood you can sell.you could start a campground with all that land.or small cabins.just keep the kids and generators away from the rest of us who like the quiet
I know it's hard to stay positive and a negative the picture... It'll be okay if you get on your feet and so be one thing behind you and you'll have safety regarding your house and your cars etc..
We have 75 acres like I said and about 80% is ash, some dead some not, the dead ones have been standing for YEARS, we cut some yearly and leave the rest dead ones for the next year, still standing dead , he wants your money, just cut the close ones to cabin
Regret is all about looking behind you. You've made a great decision in buying your home and moving forward in your lives. Your thoughts on a 3 day tree removal is a sound one as you don't have to do everything at once. Prioritize as you as you go at a pace that you're comfortable with. You're a dynamic, optimistic, and loving couple who we always wish the best for in ALL your adventures. ❤
Sadly the fungus continues to rot the trees once they're cut so the firewood is only good for a couple years. By the time its seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all. We still have plenty of good burning ash trees that are down and waiting to be processed!
Hope you're keeping the fire wood seeing that you burn wood the could put the logs out of you way till you could cut them your self that would save you money twice them not taking them then you not having to buy as much fire wood next winter
Sadly the fungus continues to rot the trees once they're cut so the firewood is only good for a couple years. By the time its seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all
I think you made a good decision. Ignore the haters telling you to just buy a chainsaw. I've been dropping trees for 35 years and the first 5 were dangerous. I was trained by a pro, have all the safety gear, and still I was injured twice. When you are trying to fell an 80 foot tree with a rotten core, you need serious gear, training and a fast vehicle to get you to the hospital. When you have 55 trees that close together, you have some serious danger. To those who say, man up and buy a chainsaw, ask them if they also do brain surgery and their own fillings on cavities. I think not. Good luck and so sorry you are dealing with that so early in your home life. If I was within 300 miles of you, I would come over and help. Unfortunately, I'm well over 1,000 miles away.
Dude buy a 661 chainsaw and learn to do it The only way to learn is to do!yourself, you do not need to chip them just break them down and you will have tons of firewood. The only way to learn is to do!
Sadly, the seller probably knew that many of his trees needed to be taken down. An honest seller would have disclosed this prior to purchase and price reduction given.
I only hire tree services if it could fall on a structure and I don't think I could "aim it" the right way. Most trees that are not going to fall on anything can easily be cut down with a chain saw and then chopped up for fire wood and its LESS MONEY to buy the equipment vs pay someone, and then you have all that fire wood and the equipment which you will need in the future anyways. I would buy a gas chainsaw and an electric log splitter and get the experience especially at ya'lls age.
I appreciate the coordination between you two, in spite of trials and circumstances. I am really enjoying your various recordings -- May God bless your travels and adventures ahead.

You are on the right path have him get the ones that endanger the cabin and then you handle the rest you can learn pretty quickly how to do it.
Connor & Amelia, I just love what you both are doing. Whether it's in the Lance or your new cabin your videos are just a comfort to me to watch. My heart goes out to you. You don't deserve that happening. Best of luck and brighter days ahead.
Thank you!
55 trees to cut down is unbelievable but has to get done to avoid damage to you, your cabin, vehicles. Sending support and prayers 🙏 ❤️.
Thank you!

You’re doing the right thing even though the cost sucks. In the long run your cabin and both of you and Barkley will be safe.
WOW! What a lot of Trilliums! That's beautiful!
They're gorgeous!
Well that sucks and I've been there before.Welcome to Being a homeowner It can be very rewarding but also expensive. Good luck to you.
Thank you!
We thought about you when we saw a lot of bad weather in Michigan. Hope it wasn’t near you & you’re getting this handled. ❤
Nothing too bad up here, thanks for checking in!
If the wood can be burned you can advertise and have some come for free to haul off the trees if you don't need it yourself. That would save some a lot of money. Just a thought.
You will make that property beautiful regardless. Keep up the good work.

You two are making a wise decision!! You got this and God Bless America 🇺🇸💪🇺🇸👍
Sending prayers. Please be safe until you get them down on the ground.
Those large white flowers are beautiful. I think they are called Large White Trillium. You have a bunch there.
Yes they are trilliums, gorgeous flowers!
It looks like you have a lot of lilies of the valley under the trees that will look and smell wonderful in the spring 😊 And keep the big logs you can sell them as firewood 😊
Sadly the firewood isn't worth anything since the fungus continues to rot the wood once it's processed. A sad thing for sure!

Agreed, just get the dead ones out of the way while we can!
I cannot wait to see the before and after!
The trillium are beautiful! They are my home province of British Columbia’s provincial flower! Thanks for the great video and looking forward to next week!
Such a gorgeous flower, we had no idea!
Good luck. Stay safe.

Couldn't agree more, we'll use it to make the back woods a gorgeous place to walk!
You just need to take things as they come.😊
Agreed!
Check around your area for woodworkers who use certain wood for hobbies or cabinets. They would love to help to have the wood
Wow! LOVE the trillium flowers!!
They're gorgeous!

Don't chip it all leave some limbs for firewood. This will make your property more valuable in the future.
We still have plenty of ash trees down that make great firewood!
You are making the right decision. Those trees must come down. We are sorry that you have to deal with this cost right at the beginning of your new adventure. We are super excited for you guys.

Whatever it is ,iam sure you will do the best ...so dont worry and best wishes from india...❤
That’s a lot of trees!! But you need to do what you gotta do!
It’s expensive no doubt. We just had two huge dead trees that cost us 2400 bucks. If I were you I would see which way the wind normally blows and just do a few at a time.
Taking care ahead of time, good choice
We think so too!
Bummer get er done ✅ going forward
To bad you can't find someone to come clear your whole lot out in exchange for the wood. Make sure you have good homeowners insurance just incase one of those trees hit the house. Could be a total loss. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Sadly the wood isn't worth anything since it's slowly rotting. We'll use it to make a great walking trail through the property!
Can you use any of the trees for firewood for that wonderful wood burner?😍 Or does the fungus prohibit that? It’s still gonna be an amazingly beautiful property.❤ Congratulations!

Wow! 55 trees! Planning on building a garage/workshop? Did you ever find out if tornados been through there? You’ll have lots of firewood. Austin seems to be the right guy for the job. Good luck.
We do plan on a garage in a few years, and one of the spots we like is where the large majority of dead trees is so its a win there
Once familiar with the tree leaves you will know the tree bark.
Look at it this way, its an investment in your property and definitely a safety issue. The property will be worth more when you're done and you can use the mulch from the trees to make trails!
Agreed!
These types of neglect / deferred maintenance issues are going to plague buyers who buy Airbnb properties. Not only did many (most?) Airbnb purchasers not do their own due diligence when purchasing, they certainly didn't do any maintenance as they tried to maximize profit. As a former builder and real estate agent, I can tell you from personal experience that nearly every Airbnb I've stayed in has Major problems that a new owner is going to get stuck with.
View of Lake Michigan??!! How lucky are you?! Such a special property.
Such great walking trails nearby! I wish we could see the lake, but we'll enjoy the public land!
Any wood turners in your area? They would love a lot of those trees. Bug tracts holes and knotty trees are things they will gladly pay for. You might recoup a few $$ ???. The tree guy should be familiar with the woodworking community in your area. Just a thought from a potter whose hubby is a woodturner😊❤
Have them drop all the trees and then do the clean up yourself to save some money.
The boss of the swamp on RUclips could give you some good ideas on how to fall a tree if it was me I would start on the ones farthest away from the house for practice it's not Magic it's just a skill and if you still don't feel comfortable make sure you get three bids . Sometimes when we start a new chapter in life the story ends up a little bit different than what we planned on God bless both of you
We'll still have plenty of dead trees to learn how to fell!
Does the disease die wen you cut down the tree or o you have to worry about the pile of chips and the air from the chipper blower infecting the other trees?
The disease is only tree specific, so the surrounding trees are safe!
Please check Barksley for ticks each time he comes in from outdoors. Tis the season!
We do! Only found a couple so far, but he's on tick medicine as well
When the trees have been felled, will the beetles be gone. Also can you sell the wood for fire wood ? To get some of the money back ?
Sadly the fungus continues to rot the trees once they're cut so the firewood is only good for a couple years. By the time its seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all. Since its such a prevalent issue up here the wood isn't worth anything
Do you have a backup heating system in addition to your woodstove? just curious. My husband and I have lived many places with only wood heat. We are in our 70’s so decided to just have gas heat. (No. Idaho).
500 trees wow! We'll still have plenty to clear ourselves and make this property healthy and beautiful!
Plant some pines. They are a great screen and whisper in the wind.
We plan on adding some evergreens around the perimeter!
Cleaning out the bad ones is good. Buggy wood should be burned so it doesnt spread.the rest is firewood you can sell.you could start a campground with all that land.or small cabins.just keep the kids and generators away from the rest of us who like the quiet
You can do this. Buy a nice saw, rope, a come along and take your time. Cut the small ones in case you have to hire him to cut big ones.
I know it's hard to stay positive and a negative the picture... It'll be okay if you get on your feet and so be one thing behind you and you'll have safety regarding your house and your cars etc..
We'll get through this!
I had property in Wisconsin with a bunch of trees and I would rather look at healthy green than dead brown trees, you can always replant later.
Agreed! We'll replant where they can grow healthy!
Those Trillium! 😮
Aren't they gorgeous!
It sounds overwhelming but y'all can do it. Hell get Bigfoot to help ya! Peace and blessings to you.
Haha maybe so!
Damn beetles are horrendous. I feel so bad for you guys. I’ve had trees removed and it ain’t cheep. Chin up. You just do the best you can do. 👍
Thank you, Dale!
How many acres is your whole property?
Bringing in professionals is very wise. Your plan makes sense. Hope it works out.
Thank you!
Should have walked property with tree guy prior to purchase then used his estimate to negotiate a credit/price reduction from seller.
Buy a wood stove and a chain saw
Phone call with tree service sounds like classic scam.
We have 75 acres like I said and about 80% is ash, some dead some not, the dead ones have been standing for YEARS, we cut some yearly and leave the rest dead ones for the next year, still standing dead , he wants your money, just cut the close ones to cabin
Get a timber cutter they can remove them and cost so much less, and you should burn the wood
Ironwood is worth money
if the tree is not rotten don't chip it use it for firewood
Regret is all about looking behind you. You've made a great decision in buying your home and moving forward in your lives. Your thoughts on a 3 day tree removal is a sound one as you don't have to do everything at once. Prioritize as you as you go at a pace that you're comfortable with. You're a dynamic, optimistic, and loving couple who we always wish the best for in ALL your adventures. ❤
Thanks for the support!!
You can drink the sap from birch trees!
can you not use the trees for a woodstove
Sadly the fungus continues to rot the trees once they're cut so the firewood is only good for a couple years. By the time its seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all. We still have plenty of good burning ash trees that are down and waiting to be processed!
I would get a few estimates.
Isnt home ownership fun?! Every house has some problem that shows up-I just had two cast iron pipes that broke under my house. Big bucks!
I really feel badly for you!
There's always something!
By the time its seasoned it'll be too late to burn it all
Vocal fry?
We agree, it definitely was the right decision. Lots of trees left to learn how to cut down and we still have plenty of downed trees for firewood!
You own property you should start to do the work on your own. Start with the small ones
Dude buy a 661 chainsaw and learn to do it The only way to learn is to do!yourself, you do not need to chip them just break them down and you will have tons of firewood. The only way to learn is to do!
On the bright side clearing the land around the cabin will significantly improve the property overall.
Agreed!
Y’all did the right thing by hiring a tree professional ! Smart move !
We think so too!
Sadly, the seller probably knew that many of his trees needed to be taken down. An honest seller would have disclosed this prior to purchase and price reduction given.
I would risk it to save money.
On the bright side, you have a great clear view of the sky for Starlink.
I appreciate the coordination between you two, in spite of trials and circumstances. I am really enjoying your various recordings -- May God bless your travels and adventures ahead.
Thank you, Kevin!
