Room cleaned. Dragon slayed. Operating at 91% efficiency. Eternal gratitude to Jordan Professor.
Room fluctuating from acceptable to a complete mess. Dragon engaged and has burned me more than I've stabbed it, so far. Operating at about 21% efficiency, up from 2%, but also down from 40% at one time. Here's to getting to 92% and 22% asap. Life's an obstacle course, learn the obstacles and get better at maneuvering them.

Peterson made me realize that experience doesn't exist independent of action, a lesson I sorely needed (given my affinity for daydreaming and my resulting tendency to allow things around me to become stagnant as I build up internal worlds for myself). With this I've finally exhausted JBP's content. From 12 Rules For Life and Maps of Meaning, to the Biblical Series and post modernism/philosophical lectures, to this personality course. This man has changed my life, showed me the eternal light of the sun on consciousness and hope, and the eternal journey of taking responsibility and accepting my cross, he reminded me about my divine essence and the divinity of meaning found between chaos and order, he brought me back and reconciled my belief structure with God, the Bible and mythology. He empowered me to take on the dragons of life, to voluntary descend into the underworld, to rescue my father's legacy and to always keep true to my consciousness and the world.
I was rescued from the belly of the whale by a mythological hero, and that is a debt of gratitude that i can only pay by doing the same thing to other's. Thank you, Dr. Peterson, greetings from Brazil!

I think the message at the end is critically underrated. In just those few words it feels as though Mr.Peterson summed up what he knew life to be about. It’s crucial at times like these for us to really let it sink in for a moment. I for one, will remember this for the rest of my life:
“Be what you can be. God, you let the world around you dissolve otherwise. That’s not a good thing. You got something that everyone needs man, including yourself. That’s why, let it out, that’s where everything you want is. It’s the case for every single one of you. So, hoist up your goddamn privilege and go out there and do something in the world.”
From all corners of our society we get bombarded by "Get more pleasure - become happy!', but we just know that is bs. Jordan Peterson says: "Embrace your pain and capacity for evil - become a better human by fighting them", and we just know that is REAL.

I absolutely love your way with metaphors. So many complex ideas being accurately described in language that tends to not be anywhere else other than children's storybooks is amazing, and really point to the fact that our ancestors knew so much more than we give them credit for.

1.) The world is not made up of matter, it's made up of 'what matters' (27:30)
2.) Use the least amount of harshness when dealing with mishaps - whether they be social, academic, or in relationships.
3.) Carefully watch people around you. When they do something you like 1.) Notice 2.)TELL THEM!
4.) Gold can be extracted from your dragons.
5.) Life is suffering. Okay, so what do you do about it? Well, try to rise above your suffering by acting in a way that decreases it.
Tim Westchester it's astounding isn't it? It hits me right in the fuckin chest...every time. He mentioned in the series something about a sortof 2nd brain in the solar plexus...maybe something to that
His “ 2 brains in 1” explanation tells me what I experienced once :
After handing a “ needy “ stranger my cell phone at my door, then sending him off, I realized 20 mins later, having left in haste - being delayed by him, when my right brain “ spoke up” - almost a clear voice - “ you’re being robbed !”. It was crisp; clear; positive !

Look up a book called "the cosmic serpent: DNA and the origins of knowledge" by Jeremy Narby. He came up with his own theory about this, largely inspired by his experiences with ayahuasca. This isn't an idea that's uniquely Peterson's.
This is pretty much that 1%-2% of Peterson that I feel falls just short of perfection as an educator and scholar. Immeasurably grateful of just about everything else though :)

This is hands down one of the best lectures of the whole Personality course, thank you Dr Peterson
I never ever commented on a video but I had to do it for this series. It was an amazing experience listening to these lectures. Such a fatherly ending Dr. Peterson did for this course. It changed how I see the world and I will surely like to read some of the great psychologists Freud, Jung and Jean Piaget whom you have mentioned in these lectures.
I have an odd habit I've noticed. When I do something good out of the ordinary, I feel good about it and want to do it again up until I receive praise from my Mom. Once she notices it, and comments positively on it, I want to throw it away, scrap it, deface it. I'm not exactly sure why, but it has shaped a lot of my behavior. The opposite isn't true, if I act badly, and she notices and comments, I don't double down to spite her, or cease to please her; her opinion doesn't matter.
I think it may be that I don't want her to feel a sense of accomplishment from my accomplishments because I feel I've accomplished this thing in spite of her, not because of her. So I guess this means I see my mother as an antagonist, which makes sense. When I was a child, my brother was a fiend and a sadist towards me. Most nights I was afraid to sleep, believing he might feel like ending my life while I was helpless. But I understood, even though my brother was a monster, my mother enabled, even rewarded his behavior, so who was the bigger threat?

Jordan Peterson, I started watching your lectures about 4 months ago and I can't express enough how much I needed to hear this stuff. It has completely changed my perception of the world, and more importantly myself. I am slowly piecing together an understanding of my childhood which I have been trying to do for the passed 20 years. Thank you.
And for the record, I was a D student all throughout my education and would find any excuse to not attend a lecture like this in college. So that says a lot.
I firmly believe in a few decades Peterson will be regarded as one of the greatest. Furthermore, the first to give psychology to the masses. Thank you Dr. 🙏

I started watching the personality lectures a year ago, and today, after a year of trying to balance my life between univerity, work, family and friends, I finally managed to watch this last one - better late than never, right? Amazing, amazing lectures. I've learned so much from them. This past year I've grown so much as a person and it's safe to say your work has significantly contributed to my journey, and will keep contributing to it in the future. This man is my hero
I am so grateful of being able to watch this course for free sitting at home in Moscow and seeing how my bad habits starting to fall away gradually. Since I started watching it two weeks ago I stopped get to bed late, keeping my flat clean and organized, doing fitness excersises every second day, restoring contact with old friends I respect and planning improvement of my professional skills. As if something switched in my head, something I don't understand fully, but it seems to work good for now.

Powerful... What can I say? I discovered you on your first appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast back in December. I have since then gone through your Maps of Meaning course, your Personality course, TONS of clips from these lectures that are circulating on youtube and various interviews, podcasts and now the biblical series. It's just invaluable the information that i have recieved from you! I have questioned my habits and surroundings before but not with these tools. This time it's with a more extensive understanding on how and why things work the way they do and that gives me WAY more motivation to put what I've learned into practice so that I can become a better person. It seems less likely I can become willfully blind towards a potential demise of my being so how could I not be motived towards striving towards the good of life?
I will keep watching everything you do and I also plan to do all of the self authoring programs. I feel more hopeful than I've been in a long time. For all the years I've been down in chaos and hell from the causes of family problems, personal loses, addiction, martyrdom, resentment, broken heart, trust issues, depression and fear all bundled up in a clusterfuck of a traumatic and nihalistic state of mind I now feel I can put that wisdom to better use. I know what I have to do, I know what tools to sharpen even further and I am goddamn ready to grab life and its opportunities by the nutsack.

I have watched many of his lectures and listened as intently as I can. I feel like I am actually in his class and absorbing lots of it.
I got teary eyed after blasting all lectures (this course) over 4-5 days, the ending. Jordan, you're a pinnacle of our times, never stop.

I have pretty much an architypal oedipal mother, as a child she literally fed me to be a blob and just smiled about it, like the Hansel and Gretel-story. She didn't let me out of her sight and wanted to do everything for me. And my sister was/is pretty much a monster who mocked me for every good thing I tried to do.

Finishing this series gives you the same feeling you get when finishing a really good TV show. The bitter sweet feeling in which your happy that you were able to watch and experience such a wonderful thing but your sad that it's ending and don't know what to do about that.

Here’s an example of a personal journey I go through while watching these videos..
Around (1:07:00) “Snakes. Two halves of the same dna molecule”
Jordan lives in the world of pattern and loosely defined words to allow for his own self affirming story to manifest. His a priori structures are filtered wired for interest in fantasy, All nested within the deeper motivation of subconscious drives to power. In essence, his message and impact is merely the natural pattern of molecules to assemble power to their own purpose. The stupidity of the snake idea would only capture the interest of those who also are wired to be interested in fantasy.
-a cynical thought manifests in me
But what’s the underlying motivation for an idea like that to manifest within me? What am I compensating for? What in the world am I ignoring?
Perhaps, my comment was aimed at cutting my ideal at the knees, because why not? My ideal is to be like Jordan, but I clearly have a lot of work to do.
if we use Jordan’s definition of truth pragmatic in the sense that the intention of action in relation to my ideal is the marker of its truthfulness, then my commentary about Jordan is contradictory with my highest ideal
So now I should stop myself from identifying with those types of thoughts and reframe them:
Jordan’s has been able to notice and articulate the deepest patterns of human behavior, and has developed a following not just as a result of self affirimation and hunger for power, but with the intention to help others manifest the ideal of God within us.

It was an interesting insight into your thoughts and sub -personalities. It was a good read. Do you often write down your thoughts and analyse them? I do.
One thing i noticed when listening to him is that I am aiming for a very similar thing he is, but he is much further ahead of me in terms of organising his thinking and understanding the world, and this causes me to feel uneasy. More precisely I want to figure out the truth myself rather than have someone hand it down to me, this is a prevalent feeling during my whole life, exactly the same when my parents tried to teach me, pretty much since I was about 5.
There is a practical side to this approach, I'm quite safe from brainwashing, and I am less prone to not questioning mostly correct but partially flawed theories. But that is not the source of it, it's just a side effect.
I feel like my purpose would be stolen if someone gave me all the answers. Then again we should rely on each other and cooperate and learn from each other, so I'm not certain what to do about this. What's the right balance of doing things myself Vs asking for help.
@Corleone Interesting, what do you mean by efficient at suffering? Are you saying that he's able to recover from suffering faster than most, leaving more energy for him to utilize his strengths?
This and the conscientiousness video are the examples I point people to who claim to be against Peterson (for whatever litany of sins they place on him).
This is the kind of lecturer I hope to be some day.

My wife passed away from cancer in April 2018. 13 years together, she was 33 years old. Man, I just can’t seem to break out of my misery, it’s been the most difficult year and a half of my life. I’m struggling for answers constantly, and Jordan Peterson has been extremely helpful for me, especially when I found out the Peterson family has faced the same fight against this evil disease.

Thank you for making and sharing this. My mom died of cancer in June last year, diagnosed in March. I saw this shortly after her diagnosis and you were so right. I consciously decided to become the monster. You articulated something I’ve been doing for years in relation to her and my wider family but it was done more on instinct. It was bloody hard, hard, hard but I’m standing on the other side of this now but at the time I knew I had to face it, running away for me just was not an option. I chose to stand and be the strength in that situation. When you said you need to be the “monster” I understood that immediately. I was with her right the way through and helped her face the end of her life. I was the monster at the funeral. I’m still that monster now dealing with family issues that everyone else has unsuccessfully tried to bury. I am being the monster to stop this shit in its tracks and deal with it so that it doesn’t go on to contaminate another generation. I can’t thank you enough. Your words gave me clarity. You helped me to realise I had, and have a responsibility to slay these dragons. These experiences have taught me that I am stronger than I thought and I am well able.

I LOVE when Jordan endorses being "a monster". It gets me all enthusiastic and excited. Nothing feels better than going into that mental space where you are just swatting down other people and their desires and opinions while you ride your horse to victory. He's so right: it is a hatred of being. But that hatred is very motivational to me.
Goad Said Just avoid seeing yourself as something tyrannical
I'm not sure I understand entirely what you are implying. One wouldn't attempt to be a weak monster - or a weak anything. And a strong monster almost seems to = tyrannical. As in tyrannical is a good adjective for a strong monster.
Goad Said tyrannical has it's own definition. being a monster doesn't mean forcing your will on other people, it just means you have the capacity to if needed. A civilized monster can operate in such a way that tyrrany is a last resort not the first.
Peterson always talks about being familiar with the monster / shadow, having the capability to use it in doses, but never fully surrendering to it. It is for sure a very powerful state, but I don't think he would ever endorse "hatred of being" as any standard modus operandi. That's when you see yourself becoming the tyrant and NOT the hero.
Goad Said , it's about controlling the monster so that its strength can be used to defeat the ACTUAL monsters (dragons). You sound like you are letting the monster control you instead , which will have devastating consequences. You are deliberately adding suffering instead of rising above it by reducing it. You are doing it wrong, kid.

Systems are nested hierarchies, the more understanding you have, the better able you are to address the issues that will matter most.
Evolution of belief systems and issues of control? If something is worth believing in, it is timeless.
The heart is more important than the head when it comes to achieving greatness.
For the average task, only the intellect is needed but a great challenge will require heart and soul.
Imagination is the connecting of disparate things in novel ways.
It is not the job of the intellect to tame the passions of the heart, that is the job of the spirit. The intellect is best managed by the heart, without this connection you get the psychopath. The heart is best managed by the spirit, without this connection, you get the horrors of war.
I do not give much consideration to the ideas of a man that doesn't believe in God, the reason, God is not an intellectual issue. Our reality is constructed in such a way that there is a nested hierarchy of meaning. In terms of information, it is meaning that gives the information value. In terms of consciousness, emotion is higher up in the hierarchy than intellect. Spiritual is higher than emotional. #1; What we understand. #2; What we value. #3; What we do about it. A material expression is the result of this process. The actionable consequences of distilled expectation arise, in part, from the intentional field of implicate order. The reason I believe that emotion is a higher state of processing than intellect is because chess computers don't enjoy winning. What is spiritual faith? It is trust, but this trust is based on a foundational understanding rooted in intellectual experience, emotional maturity and a spiritual relationship.
Intellect; practice, practice, practice.
Emotion; respond, connect, share.
Spirit; become, love, unify.
Principles or laws that govern the affairs of men: Men are driven by intellectual pursuits to a lesser degree and by emotional factors to a greater degree. For the most part, there are no checks and balances in place to correct the turbulence or disruption to the system and when you factor in the spiritual component (belief systems and values, etc) things really get complicated. The result of all this chaos is that men begin killing each other and the main reasons are the lack of practical wisdom and no moral compass.
The most intelligent left brained dogmatist can be reduced to an idiot by an unfounded belief system or a strong emotion. This brings up a flaw in Gene Roddenberry's concept of the character Spock (Vulcans). Spock would not be without emotion, more likely, he would have a very finely tuned, useful, and well regulated emotional state that would, in fact, be quite strong at the right moment, if he were to be a superior intellectual creature. Think about the dimensions involved in appreciating something of great beauty. Your five senses may play a role but when your emotional state is engaged, that is when the real magic happens.
The intellectual realm is usually not too difficult to navigate. Most people find their niche and naturally fall into an area where they can do pretty well. The emotional realm is deeper and much more nuanced, behaviors ripple out into the landscape in ways we would never imagine. It takes a very long time to perfect the kind of emotional intelligence that creates win-win scenarios as a general course of action. The spiritual realm is so nuanced and so deep that few navigate this landscape without upsets, wrong turns, misunderstandings and a sense of one's own hypocrisy. There are very few superstars in the arena of spirituality. I would also guess that being spiritual, for the most part, is not highly valued in our society, also there is little consensus on what constitutes spirituality. As I have stated it is a deeply nuanced realm that does not give up its secrets easily. You have to want it, you have to work at it and most importantly, you have to care.

Latent consciousness is the idea that a system needs devices in the environment to sense the world around it. The more it can sense the environment the more conscious it is. Self awareness is knowing your position in state space, in a manner that includes emotional and spiritual components.
In the hierarchy of maturity you must first master your intellect through doing, then you must master your emotions through serving, only then are you ready to take on the things of the spirit. I suspect that this would be an act of full surrender.

Until now, i've finished, All "Jordan peterson & Joe rogan podcasts" and "Maps of Meaning" series, I am just going through the comment section of this playlist to see whether this "Personality lectures" are good. I will be happy, if you could advice me which should I watch next? "Biblical series" or "Personality series"?. Which will be more helpful to get my act together?
I can watch both "Biblical series" and "Personality series" but unfortunately i don't have that much time right now(since english is not my first language, i spend lot of time in dictionary to understand Jordan Peterson's words, To complete a video i take a long time as well). I will watch one of this series now, then maybe after one year the other one. So which would you recommend, "Biblical series" or "Personality series"??, If you prefer any other videos or playlists better than these two or there is a must watch video, please suggest that as well.

Just an idea why - similar to that image, the Caduceus is two snakes. They're arranged in a helix around a staff, capped with wings. It's used as a symbol of Medicine, you'll probably recognize it when you see it. Certainly seems symbolic of DNA, and being primed with that image it's easy to make the association.
It gets a bit more complex though, because originally it was a symbol of Commerce until an accidental misuse by the military in the early 1900s. The actual symbol of Medicine is the Rod of Asclepius, being similar but just one snake around a staff and no wings.
Anyway, fun stuff to check out if you're into symbolism and that sort of thing.
