I had almost finished up Final Fantasy 7, and then i save the game and left because i had school that morning, (it was like 6:30 am). I come back from school, (it was 4:10 pm) and my little brother was playing the PS1 as well. And i asked him,"Did you do anything to the save file?". He just smiled very akwardly and left the room RUNNING. So i turned the off the PS1, turned it back on, and went to check on my FF7 file.........it was gone. :`( there went my hours of gameplay just GONE.

    My story;
I loved Pokémon. I still think it's great but I can't for the very life of me get into it. When I was around 13-15 and I played Red & Yellow almost obsessively (along with Aliens vs Predator, now known as 2000 Classic) and I had a lot of them, but the most important one was my insanely powerful Mewtwo with Hyper Beam that I simply put "Trust you forever" (G Gundam opening song reference).
When Gold & Silver came out, I bought Silver and I transferred over my Mewtwo. I played through Silver and had a blast with that, did everything the game offered. One day, my father's friend and his younger son came over and he wanted to play Silver. And I let him. He wanted to play on a new save file - I told him to not save the game because then I'd lose so many hours. He wanted to borrow the game, I let him.
I got it back - And he had saved over my file.
My most trusted Lv 100 Mewtwo, was gone.
I sighed, I turned off the game, and that's when I stopped playing Pokémon.

    • @Zeithri
      @Zeithri 10 лет назад

***** It was, because with Hyper Beam, I one-shot everything. Psychic did not. And that's the story of my beautiful Mewtwo.
Add: That's not to say that it didn't one-shot a lot of stuff, just that Hyper Beam was more reliable for those one-shot kill hilarities of overpoweredness.

One time our house got robbed when we were kids. My Gameboy and Pokemon Red got stolen. But my brother told me not worry since we had insurance and we’ll get it back. So I said “What about my save file? What about my Level 100 Charizard?” He said “Don’t worry, the insurance people will train a Charizard to level 100 for you”.... They never did, but if they did, that would have been one badass insurance company.

I remember when I had finally reached the final area in Banjo Tooie, about 5 years after I had first got the game (about '05/'06), and my parents called me out of my room to help them with something, when I came back 10 minutes later, I found my brother playing the first area. He said he made a new file, but instead of starting one of the other 2 files, he deleted my file and started that one because "He liked it's picture more." I still haven't finished the game.

Ok heres a story, the same thing happened with me on xenoblade chronicles for the wii. I had put 70 hours into the game and was about 85% through the storyline of the game. a years worth of my life spent getting to that point, exploring, doing sidequests, leveling characters, completing dungeons and killing bosses. one day i decided to pop the game in and get to playin again. wasnt playing attention and just clicking through the load menu like i was used to BUT... it didnt load and the screen looked different. so I refocused my eyes and I just see a blank list no save file and my immediate reaction is confusion. "did I click onto the wrong menu somehow?" nope. turns out in my glazed eye muscle memory loading of my file I accidentally deleted my file. thats it, no safe block just *poof* gone. to say I had a meltdown would be an overstatement. I still have not gone back to climb that proverbial mountain again, but here with the new 3ds rerelease and a year long break to heal I'm going in strong and this time, I wont be making any mistakes.

I screamed NOOOOOOOOOOO out loud as soon as I read that the game you lost was Xenoblade. I know from experience how massive that game is and how tough it is to even get to 70% completion. My heart goes out to you. Same thing happened with me with my Skyward Sword save files, I remember getting to the volcano for the first time. Then bam. I don't remember how exactly, but I lost my save file. I had tears pouring out my eyes. I'm restarting as I'm typing this.

I played Quest N64, (Holy Magic Century) on the N64 and I used a third party memory card to save the game.
This memory card worked fine until I saved the game right before the game's final boss.
Then when I would load the game ...
the memory card had become corrupt and all the saves were gone!
I had to start the game from the beginning ...
Need I point out that I never used a party memory card again?

When I was kid my mom grounded me a lot but I would always go and take my stuff back without her knowing. This time around I had toiled for years attempting to beat Dragon Warrior 3 on Gameboy Color and had done this for months, possibly years sneaking my stuff back to play this game. I had gotten to the last castle, right near the last boss at the end of the second world of the game, probably over 80 hours of gameplay and months of my life squandered when she walked into my room late one night and snatched it back. The kicker is she hid it so well she couldn't even find it or she more than likely sold it. I tried relentlessly for years to complete the game after, always getting about 30 hours in countless times and not being able to move on losing interest and what not. It took me until nearly 10 years later in high school, my senior year, and I pretended to be sick because I had pushed through the game for weeks previously and I knew I was about to finally finish it and stop it from haunting me. She agreed and as soon as she left for work, I went in and beat the final boss bring 10 long years to an immensely satisfying close. It'll always sting losing that original copy and that Gameboy though.

You can make backup saves on some games. Perfect Dark, for instance, gives you the option to save on the memory pak or in the cartridge (I saved on both). Early CD consoles too: PC Engine CDROM², using the tennokoe bank card, or Sega CD, using the RAM cart. Very usefull.

i was 3 years old when i got my n64 but for many years my mom was the one that played it the most. when we got banjo-kazooie she spent years playing but never beat it, she had about 80-85% done. we moved alot as i got older so things went into storage and about 3-4 years ago i found my n64 then banjo a few months after. everything my mom had accomplished was still there, i chose to complete the game. i had played it maybe twice after finding it, the next time i tried to play it, the file was completely wiped and we still to this day have no idea what happened. i was devastated because all that i watched as a kid was completely gone and all my moms hard work vanished. since then, i devoted myself to beat the game and put it to rest. its taken a few years but actually finished click clock wood today and im about to face gruntilda to beat the game.

I'm here because of Johnny's new video which is titled: 'TOP 10 GAMES OF ALL TIME (Rob Man Edition) - Happy Console Gamer.'
Due to Castlevania Symphony of the Night being on the list, I couldn't help but remember the story Johnny told us in this video about losing your save data and how some rotten kids can ruin all your efforts in a video game in an instant.
I too know this hardship as my younger cousin (about age 11 at the time) back when PS2 was still on top and ps3 didn't yet exist.. The game in question was Fur Fighters - Viggo's Revenge, kinda like a remake or otherwise just a newer version of Fur Fighters from the Sega Dreamcast. Now, I'm roughly 95-98% through the game, collected nearly all the Fur Fighter babies that were kidnapped and basically ready anytime to face the final boss / stage. My cousin "S" would come over occasionally and goof around in split-screen multiplayer making up our own games when not fluffing (destroying) each other. I then have the bright idea that since he visits fairly often, that he can start his own new save file. Like anyone in that position with someone they trust and think nothing bad will happen... it happens...
Being an impatient kid that avoids books and generally doesn't care to read or even watch the opening cutscene, or going through menus and they just want the game to "start already." When selecting New Game from the menu, you have to pick one of 3 file slots for your new game to exist in, and the default position was slot 1, my game. Furthermore, since he was rapidly hitting the X button, even if there was a warning message to ask if the player actually wanted to delete the previous game, I have no idea if that even existed with how fast he was going through the menus. This is where my face went pale. The game auto-saves regularly, and began auto-saving the new save game immediately, I knew what was happening and thought about pulling the power cord out or hitting the switch on the back of the PS2, but being far away from the console, I figured I might corrupt the save data on the memory card as well so I didn't knowing full well that no matter what I would do in that situation, my save file was lost.
One of these days, like how Rob and Johnny worked together to get Johnny's save file back to completion, I'm going to marathon the game having my cousin do most of the work (trading the controller off every so often). He will learn that I'm still angry about that and he will absolutely help restore that file for me so I can beat the final boss and 100% collect everything. Maybe even making a bad memory into a positive one.

I had this girlfriend when I was in highschool and she couldn't go out very long except when she was with her 7 year old little brother (a great kid). One day they came to my house. Me and my ex went upstairs while I left the kid play God Of War (1 or 2, don't remember) with my little brothers in the living room. We weren't together for that long at the time so we didn't do much upstairs. We go back to the living room where the kid was playing. As soon as one of my little brother saw me, he ran at me and said : "Anthony (her little brother) has deleted your God Of War save file !" I was sooooooo mad, i almost finished it ! I wanted to slap him in the face or at least scream at him but i couldn't ! My ex didn't knew a thing about video games so she didn't gave a shit about the situation. I kept all my anger inside. I was like : "ok, don't act crazy, you didn't even porked her yet". We didn't stayed together that long after that story.

I was a good way through the game when I decided to do one of my regular saves however a micro second after I hit save my street was hit with a power cut, just as my save was half way done, obviously this completely corrupted my save basically it was gone......and I was on the verge of tears, also at this time being like 15 I wasnt really smart enough to back up my save.

Great vid...timeless! Harrowing stories there about Castelvania and Alundra. I had my Final Fantasy XII memory card taken by my brother and he lost it. I was 80 hours in amd had done so much of the game but not quite finished it. Have never had the same feeling of loss when I realised....my brother had no sympathy either! To this day he laughs when we recall it......the inhumanity! I am yet to finish the game still but you have inspired me! I have it on PS4 now so no excuses!

Once I lost my DKC3 save file at 60% TWICE! but that doesn't stop me, l played that game until I got the 103%.
I got Persona 4 Golden in release day and I hooked up to my Ps vita playing for months in the hardest difficulty it took me 120 hours, i got stuck at the very true ending final boss and i decided left the game a a pair of weeks, on those days i find out the way to play Phantasy Star Online II on vita so I decided to try it then i copy P4G to my PS3 HD to not lose my save file... My PS3 HD got corrupted, this was in 2013 and i finally could came back to this game untill this year.
Last year I played FFVII on ps Vita for first time i was at the very end of the game when I loose all my Ps Vita games save files, right now I'm again in the same point of the game.

I used to play Soul Calibur 2 on my GameCube for so much. Its my favourite game. I played for around 4 years straight, and played the story until there weren't any titles left for the game to give me when I ranked up, so it would just keep adding random adjectives onto my title. Then when the Wii came out and I upgraded I still had my memory card but one day I brought it to my uncle's house and one of my little cousins threw it in the pool.... I will never forget that day.

I was a big FF2 (us version) back then. I remember I had gotten to the near end of the game and my save file disappeared. I knew I was near the end because I had beaten the game about a year prior. I was upset but I started over from the beginning and played this game all day. ALL DAY. I didn't even really get close to the end where I was before, but I had school the next day (it was a sunday) so I saved my progress and went to bed. The next day, I turned my SNES on to resume my play and my save file was gone again. I was so upset. Punched the bed, threw pillows, threw controllers. Turned out the battery that held the save file in the cartridge was bad and wouldn't save anymore. I ended up playing from the beginning again and I left my SNES turned on so I didn't have to resume a save. I would play it a little each day and resume where I left off by simply leaving the SNES on. One day I returned home from school, it must have been like a thursday or friday, there had been a short power outage and it turned off my SNES and lost everything again. I was so mad. I didn't have the right tools to open the cartridges and replace the battery so I smashed the outter shell of the game to pieces and removed the green game board and replaced the battery. I ended up having to play the game with just the gameboard in the SNES because I had torn apart the outter shell of the cartridge so badly. lol To this day, I still have the green board of FF2 and a battery taped around the chips, but no grey outter shell.

My most recent one was when lightning came through and fried my Xbox 360, along with all of my memory. Another great time was when I was two levels away from beating Wario World on Gameboy, and I had just bought a Super Gameboy to be able to play it on my TV. I stuck Wario World in there and switched my SNES on, and it decides to have one of those "I'm working but I'm all buggy" situations. I take the game out, blow on it, stick it back in, and I get a wonderful game selection screen with absolutely no save files found. Another time, I spent about six hours trying to make my way through Pokemon Blue on the Gameboy, and my dog wanted to go outside; so I get up to open my door and trip over him because he loves to get in my way. My gameboy goes flying out of my hand and hits the floor. In a frantic mood, I swipe it off of the ground only to find that it has a frozen screen. I'm not too affected by it because I know that the save files are on there.. OR SO I THOUGHT! The impact made me lose all of the progress I made that day. One final time was when I had no room left on my PS2 memory cards, so I wanted to try and beat an "Edd, Ed, n' Eddy" video game in one sitting. As I continue throughout my entire day, finally reaching the final level after hours of work, my electricity decides to turn off for absolutely no apparent reason at all; just simply to ruin my day. Such great memories have been made.

My first time losing a save file was when I was 7 or so, shortly after we had gotten a nintendo 64 on Banjo Kazooie my sister erased my file by accident when we were playing together, and I fuckin' bawled and wailed and howled. Which is funny looking back on it because I've done so many speed runs of that game now, and my first file had like 50+ hours on it. The second most memorable save file catastrophe was smash bros melee. When that came out, I actually got it on launch by mistake (just so happened to be my birthday when it came out) and I played that game every waking hour I could. I had just got all the characters, I had unlocked all the stages, I just beat all 3 modes with all the characters, had the lottery finished, nearly 100% basically and I brought it over to my friends house to play it and the infamous putting the memory card in after the game had started message came up and asked if you wanted to delete the file, so excited to show him my accomplishments I click yes without reading it. My reaction was just in shock and awe as to what I had done, I to this day cannot describe that feeling I had gotten. Later after getting a full 100% on the game I did the same thing by accident because the controller had that thing where it got stuck moving in one direction slightly and got really angry at the game as well as myself, but at that point I knew what I had to do I just didn't want to do it, while as a still fairly young kid I was just stunned and lost.

After seeing the name of this video, I HAD to watch it! One time, I was transferring some files onto my PSP memory stick and the mini USB cable that connected my card reader to my laptop must have moved while the transfer was in progress, causing it to no longer be detected by my laptop. When I got it to detect the card reader again, a dialog box popped up saying my memory stick needed formatting and I died a little inside when the realisation dawned on me, I'd lost everything, EVERY save file for EVERY PSP game I'd played...

I had been playing through Final Fantasy X on the PS2. I got to the save point that was right before the final boss. I decided I wanted to do a bit more grinding before I ended the game so I saved and quit for the night. Go back a couple of days later and my save was gone. I was so angry. I told a friend about it and he came and picked me up (this was before I could drive) and loaded up his save and beat the game for me so I could see the ending. Being that this was before the days of youtube, I always appreciated that.

Dude, I'm a fairly new subscriber from England and let me first say I'm loving the channel.
Now, I can't remember exactly when because it was years ago. But when Super Mario Sunshine first came out here in the UK I was in a house share with two lifelong friends. One of them was also a huge gamer and we sat together every spare moment and hammered that game. I think we were like three or four sunshine sprites away from completing it. So one Saturday me and my gaming housemate head into town to grab essential supplies for what would probably be the home stretch of the game only to return home to see our other housemate in the lounge. Not normally a problem obviously haha. But this time his girlfriend was there and she had a GameCube controller in her hands. Playing.......yep, you see where this is going. She had overwritten our save and started afresh. We went through the five stages of grief as if we lost a family member. It was devastating, needless to say, she was banned from the house.

I'm a completionist and was playing Yakuza 4 for a year, on a work schedule, no walkthrough. GF, at the time ,called while at home needing space for Little Big Planet. I spent 10 minutes explaining normal instructions like menu location, using the d-pad, counting to 3 in between each cursor movement, basically as technical as it gets. It wasn't 60 seconds later until she doubled down on the X-Button, whilst cranking the joystick, erasing my game file. I had to personally revisit the menu upon arrival to erase game settings and profile. It was like identifying a loved one's body. It's a 50/50 as to whether I suffered a minor stroke or not. I can't remember if I posted this in another account but I might as well post it again.
I one day decided that from that day forward, I would always make 2 save files, preferably one in whatever is the default position and one as far down as possible. I think because I may have done something to one of my bro's saved games and decided I didn't want that to happen to me, and thank goodness I made that decision because my bro accidentally saved over my main file of a PS2 game. When I came in the room, he told me that he accidentally saved over it with a guilty tone in his voice. I gave a sigh of relief and told him "and that's why I always have 2 save files" and then suggested he do the same thing from now on.

I got a Nintendo Wii Christmas 2006. This was in the middle of my freshman year in high school. I had this binder that I kept my games in. And this binder had a bunch of GameCube games, PS2 games and Wii games. One night me and my dad went out to my grandpa's house to hang out and I came back home that night and somebody had stolen my Wii, my PlayStation 2 and my binder. As crazy as it was I was less concerned with my new Wii and more concerned with my PS2 memory cards that were in the system. I had hundreds of hours on games like Kingdom Hearts and Radiata Stories. That was a devastating time in my life. My dad replaced it with a 360 which was nice at the time too.

On the day I wanted to finish the game a friend of mine came over. He took a look at the box and wanted to play it. I told him NOT to select save file #1 cause all of my hard work had gone into this save slot. I went downstairs to fetch some drinks and when I came back he was already playing. I asked "Which slot did you use?". He said "None, I entered my name and tapped the button to get right past the blahs and right into the game".
(Fact is - if you enter your name and then just press the buttons you have selected the first slot.)
I exploded, I went nuts, I punched him in the face, threw him out and never touched the game again for over FIVE years! I was soooooo upset!

I remember back in the 16-bit days I had a few different sports games on my Super NES (Madden 96, QB Club and a baseball game) that were notorious for randomly dumping all of my save data when I turned the game off. Sometimes the data would remain, sometimes not. Then there was Final Fantasy 3: I was most of the way through my first playthrough when there was a brief power outage. When I turned the game back on afterward, all 3 save slots were empty.
More recently I had a couple of Skyrim saves on my PS3 go corrupt on me after about 250 hours...and I wasn't saving frequently to new files like I should have. My newest uncorrupted save returned an infinite loading screen, and the newest one after that was a couple dozen hours earlier. Many years ago, I was absolutely crazy about SimAnimals. I'd raised quite a few animals that I was quite proud of, including my first one: a Squirrel named Nutra. So one day, I decided to play the game, but something was different. My save file was completely erased. All my animals whom I'd worked so hard to take care of, including Nutra, were gone forever. I was really, really upset.
But once I calmed down, I started the game anew. And when the game showed me my very first animal, a female squirrel, I named her Nutra. She's currently safe on my Wii, alongside all the other animals in the new forest, which is now even better than the old one.

There's very little worse than losing either the game or the save file of it. I have two experiences with losing save files. The first was on the PS2 when I had one of those blue memory cards and my brother who was 2 at the time got hold of it without my knowledge and chewed on it, stopping the memory card from working. The second still confuses and frustrates me. The second time was on Pokémon Heart Gold. I'm so glad I put the least amount of hours into it, but this still added to a lot of hours of gameplay. One day save file's okay, the next it's erased with no way of recovering it. :( (Also, you have an amazing friend if he's that optimistic and wants to help you out. :))
Also, same happened with Virtue's Last Reward for the 3DS, but it's a save corrupting bug that happens if you meet one of two conditions, luckily I had only unlocked one ending by that time.
