Please do a full play through of this I've been waiting since your teaser. The story side of this game seems more exciting than KDM or I should say different in a good way. I'd even support you on patreon at 5 bucks till the season is over if that helps.
We shall see how much hype this builds. The narrative is very cool, I have looked over most of the map mechanics. Very 7th Continent. I am a huge fan or narrative. The main problem is I need to finish my KDM season before Gambler Chest, but the hope is this fills the time between now and GCE.
When I saw you had a video of ATO, I was like "Yes! He's doing Aeon Trespass!" I hope you keep it up man, I'd love to see more of the rules, and how the game progresses.
Great video. Just got it myself and would love to see you do more play throughs. Your KDM videos helped me learn that game quickly and I hope the same thing here.
You are definitely having your standard luck with boss battlers. Really enjoyed the gameplay and looking forward to my copy arriving. Would enjoy some more gameplay, signed up for the patreon as a vote for more.
I will do my best to get this in the rotation. I would love to play it more. I still have Season 4 and many players really want me to get to Tyrant, Manhunter and Spooder as well.
I was so close to backing this game. Looked like a KDM killer for me (I own KDM). Loved the theme and the style. I didn't back because I had invested a lot of money in KDM and was unsure about some mechanics. Constantly shuffling in cards seemed laborious. Really appreciated this playthrough but would love to see more of the content like the other phases and actually a full comparison to KDM. Always appreciate the content from you.
It has been a bit of a KDM killer for me. I honestly am not sure I'll go back to KDM. Wanna buy my Campaigns of Death and Gamblers Chest when I get it? :P
Love your KDM coverage, but also.loved this ATO coverage. Have both games and found this video very helpful. Agree that the Kratos pool and effects were not explained well.
This looks pretty fun. I'd definitely want to see more of this, at the very least to see what the rest of the game looks like beyond monster fights. The battle system looks pretty smooth, I'd like to see how it functions with more boons for the players and higher difficulty. Good stuff, please do keep it coming.
Great video, thanks and I'd love to see more playthroughs from you. I don't get why people get so upset about influences and IPs, if something brings you joy, that's a good thing.
I can see both sides of the argument, and understand that some players feel strongly about it. I felt I should touch on the point that I enjoy both and glad that both exist. My channel is mostly for KDM players, so I knew I would have cross over.
Thanks for the video, would like to see more. At least one "Settlement Phase". Once we finish our current KDM campaign we are probably gonna try this one, one guy of the gaming group received his copy this week. So this was a neat heads up of what to expect. Gotta say though, while the Escalation mechanic seems really cool, it also looks like constant bookkeeping pauses during the fight.
I was thinking the same thing on both points. I would be curious to see one settlement phase, see what gear or weapons look like in this game and how combat might develop later on. The combat does seem well designed in the sense that everything gets more powerful through the fight, enemy gets harder AI and HL cards but you get more tokens to wound with, so it feels like you wouldn't be able to stall a fight in this as easily as you could in KDM. Manipulating the token pool with every attack and reshuffling two decks with every wound does seem pretty fiddly, though.
I am glad I was able to share my approach to this game. I know it carries the "it is just KDM" negatives, but I feel that exploring this game with a optimism for future KDM stuff makes it more fun. I am just having fun with the "more KDM mechanics to play with" approach. Some players are instantly turned away when something takes KDM mechanics. I learned this with my TT videos as well. I just enjoy the ride of playing Boss Battlers.
So bummed I missed out on backing this one! The models look great and the theme/story is a nice touch and one not explored too much in board games. You put so much into your game videos, and I would really love to see you play through this one!
They will be reopeaning for pledges from what I remeber :-) its on gamefound, I would say just keep an eye on it, I think you can get alerts for it not 100% sure.
They are brief, but direct. I enjoy it very much and love the way it builds on KDM mechanics. My thoughts here are mainly just first impression and how I feel about this taking from KDM.
On the chainfist, because you stood up INSTEAD of getting a bonus attack, it meant that the bonus attack never happened, and so you should have got chainfisted again... And for the Rumble Strike trauma, the fists card could be exhausted - so Ulyssea wouldn't have been able to move and attack. I did enjoy the playthrough though :)
This is correct. I went and read the rules again to find the specific wording, and yes it is not the card itself that causes a Chain Break. The attack, regardless of if it is successful or not is what triggers the chain break.
Huh, reminds me of a song I heard. A Mean Messenger's Proof, or something like that. Odd, I can't seem to recall exactly. Looks pretty cool, looking forward to a campaign of this!
I'd be interested in seeing more. Not sure how I feel about the Greek Mythology X Evangelion fanfiction but I'm willing to give it a chance. I will say that a lot of the icons on the dice, and some of the tablets look horrendous to read though.
I discuss my experience with recording the journey phase in my recent "burn out" video. I will still attempt to return to this game, however, I am still searching for a entertaining way to cover the journey phase. The way that Tom Vasel has been doing it over on the Dice Tower fits this game much better than a "Let's Play" would. My goal is still to find a entertaining and engaging way to make journey phase videos. I mostly play KDM, and KDM has huge potential for viewer engagement. The journey phase of this game is difficult to engage the viewer with. Most of the choices during that phase are reactionary, and hard to plan out with the viewers. From my experience with cycle 1, I can ask the viewers what they hope to see, but because I am doing edited plays and live streams, it leaves us then just hoping that our plans happen.
I like this a lot! I’d love to see more content. Working through my first KD:M campaign, so probably not gonna’ purchase this any time soon, but it sure is tempting… 🤑
Thanks for the video, fantastic overview. Marcin's (developer/producer/writer) been quite open about the influence of Neon Genesis Evangelion and other IPs on ATO.
I am sure they have been. My goal was to share my thought on how I feel about "inspiration" as I know some players dislike games taking from KDM. Inspiration comes in many forms, even KDM has direct inspirations.
I will try to fit more of this game in the rotation. I just want to get some KDM fights in first, as many have awaited Tyrant, Manhunter and Spooder to appear on my channel.
In 45:18 the knockdown titan rolls for evade. Is this correct? I understand that you can't perform any actions/reactions when knockdown. Thanks for the video, really helpful!
Thx for doing a demo of this. It makes me glad I backed this and looking forward to my copy arriving today or Monday. I think this will keep me going until gamblers chest and the other xpansion and other board games I've tossed a pile of money onto. You need to do a campaign of this. It will be a nice break from kdm. You seemed super invested in this fight and not super bummed out about bad rolls like you've had while playing kdm. There is joy and hope here. If your enjoying this, have you thought of joining the other kick starter kingdoms forlorn? I'm surprised none of these places have come to you to demo these games. On a diff note, I don't get the whole this is a ripoff/copy of kdm going on. To be honest everything ripoffs/copies something else. Even Star Wars has done that. To me its when when someone copies something else and fails at it, ie not fun, that's when the hate is justified i guess. But haters gonna hate it seems and that's ok I guess.
There are some who get turned off by games using other game mechanics. It happens in board gaming often. I am not turned off by it, and this was just my way of explaining that inspiration is ok. Have fun with what is there and approach it knowing that it will feel much the same. It is fun to play games with different twists on the boss battler genre. I did not back Kingdom Forelorn. The videos for the game at the time made the game seem really fiddly. I would be happy to make videos for rules on huge games like this. Townsfolk Tussle has a second Kickstarter soon, perhaps I will appear on the KS. Who knows? Maybe?
Cant wait for my copy to come :-) It should be at mine IN 4-5 days. Also yes the game takes alot from KDM, mixed with a story, exploration (huge map) and of course Kaiju's!!!
@@BraMithra Agree games all build on each others ideas just like with everything (video games, movies etc...) take the best things add to them, make them work better or even slim them down.
I'd like to mention some things that may not be apparent when you start ATO. In the beginning, you feel like there isn't much to the "showdown" phase. In the beginning, it def feels that way. Obv ah la KDM the more gear you get the more the showdown opens up. What isn't readily apparent is how much it matters on your turn order, whether you choose to attack to try and cause danger to escalate the deck, versus hold off and try not to wound so it doesn't escalate too fast. Sometimes you want to do what you can to force that escalation so you can change the BP card coming up, other times you're trying to change the AI card. Sometimes you are passing on your titans attack phase so another titan can get an extra attack in so their rage raises higher than whoever last had the priority target token thus shifting it to them. You might want to attack with someone who has no chance of wounding with the express intent for them to utilize their kratos table and leave opening or break tokens for the next guy. Just like KDM, the more you play, the more you learn about each AI deck. It scales so beautifully with the evolution track. I am telling you bra, you will ADORE this game as it goes on and you learn more and more about it. Couple this with Twelve Sins of Herakles and the extra modularity it will add!? Woooo boy, it's going to be awesome.
@@BraMithra awe man. Im sad to hear the 12 sins part. Ill do my best to play the shit out of it for ya and share how it is. That being said, i also have gce coming as well as campaigns of death. Any idea when the shipping notification is going up so i can be sure i dont miss it?

I'm going to be that person and say what you're probably saying "feels like that anime" ... Attack on Titan 😆 I backed this game originally because of AoT, and planned to paint the titans just so.
I am sure there are many different anime this is inspired by. I was just making the point that everything is inspired by something, and I know may of my viewers are KDM players. KDM has many inspirations that come from older games and anime. Just wanted to explain I am aware of how this is by KDM and it is not a "turn off/rip off" in my opinion. There is lots of fun stuff in here.
I only wish the tier 1 AI cards didn't start with nat 9s and 10s to dodge maybe some tier 2 or 3 but 1 just makes it so unnecessarily difficult early on.
Found this really hard to follow. I think that you should consider explaining/ displaying things as they happen, even if it's already been stated, because I'm trying to remember a lot at once and I'm not watching just to see someone just "play". A viewer can also always 5sec skip or speed up the video.
This game has a large amount going on. The play section was targeting the fans of my KDM: Let's Plays, to see if they wanted me to play the entire cycle 1. The intro and brief explanation how what to expect from the game is something I can consider more of in later videos.
Huh, I heard poots was whining about people ripping off his game and I thought he was being a massive bitch. But I haven't even played kdm yet and just from your brief overview at the start I can already tell this is more of a rip-off than a homage. Same for the evangelion themes. Kdm seems like more of an aesthetic homage to berserk, while this is just totally ripping off evangelion lmao I'm not against things borrowing heavily from other properties, if they just wanted to make an improved version of kdm then I'm not gonna say they shouldn't be allowed to, but at the same time, there really doesn't seem to be much originality or creativity in any aspect of this production, so I've already entirely list interest. I only just finally ordered kdm recently, and I started getting nervous when I saw people talking about all these new and improved boss battler games, and was worried I'd made a mistake. Don't feel that way now. I guess I'll finish watching though and see what your overall impressions are, be interesting to see if you think there are enough original ideas here to justify the games existence.
There are for sure enough original ideas here to justify it's existence. I hope KDM does some of them. Full Miss and Full Hit would help with some of KDM's core problems. Slow Devastating weapons play around the HL reactions via scouting. With a Full Miss penalties, use slow weapons would at least some form of downside. The escalation is also neat, as the fight becomes hard when a monster nears death. Very neat stuff. KDM literally Guts and his sword in the game, so, I am fine with this stuff taking anime inspiration.

This is the worst game take I've ever seen
@@BraMithra yeah it improves on a lot of problems
