  • The time has come for the Aeon Trespass Odyssey Review. In this video I am sharing my honest, subjective opinion after getting into and through all the rules and a quite big chunk of gameplay.
    Aeon Trespass Odyssey is a narrative coop journey through Ancient Greece, that is of unprecedented scope and size. In the largest and heaviest box I have ever had my courier deliver, you will find grand battles with towering enemies, character development, crafting, exploration, layered narratives, with branching choices and real-feeling consequence, multiple ways to die and many, many, MANY MORE...

    I’m a Kingdom Death veteran and it’s sufficiently different to be compelling. The minis are great too

      I had only a few runs in with KDM but I understand your point of view completely. ATO is a lot more story-driven it seems. It is an impressive piece, that is for sure. So glad to see so many people enjoying it :)

    I’ve played the game for two weeks now (day 31) and I’m completely sold about it right now. This game completely change my view of board games. I’ve never been so engaged in one of them. The sense of accomplishment this game provide remember me of Dark Souls. You feel rewarded for playing well and there's a lot of things to uncover by yourself. You always want to push forward. Marcin Wełnicki might be the Miyazaki of board gaming :D.
    I also completely agree with you about the rules, they aren’t complicated, but there’s so many of them. The game expand more and more as you progress and there’s new possibilities and new mechanics regularly.

      A couple of sessions. At that time it made an immense impression as it was the largest (both visually and conceptually) game I've ever seen. I don't own it cause of the price tag... but I jumped in on ATO counting on a similar experience and I definitely got MORE ;)

    I held back on this one because I have too many games to give ATO the time that it needs. I am still tempted and I will soon have a game room with a huge playing area, that I could just leave it set up. If I only had a few games I would snap this up as it looks fantastic!?

      Nice - I stopped TG after 7 chapters or so when I got disenchanted with the combat system... currently finishing a Dead Reckoning mini campaign, starting ATO and looking to start solo Skyrim and Middara... but I think I'll wait with the last one till act 2 and 3 come in ;p the biggest problem is TIME :D

    • @haxan6663

      @@lonevik I really struggle with TG. I love the theme and the artwork but just not sure that I like the game! I have never felt that I actually understand what I am supposed to be doing?! And the combat and diplomacy system sucks! I prefer dice based combat but am okay with systems that I understand, like Jaws of the Lion, which makes sense to me. TG's system is so abstract and random that I dread it!

      The game does not look like a disappointment at all though. Much like a labour of love that fell upon hard times in the logistical process :( pity that this fact will lay a shade on what otherwise could have been considered a very good title. A lot of people have had their trust in Grimforge shattered due to this- me included, but I still appreciate them delivering finally. Whatever attitude you might hold towards their future campaigns, I think you shouldn't let it influence your attitude towards this title as it looks indeed to be a good one. Says a lot about a game when you are willing to go back to rules, etc. I hope it does become more intuitive. Nothing sucks more than a game that's fun but is always a slug to get through. Got ATO.

    • @lonevik
      @lonevik  Год назад

      In the case of ATO I don't see it as a dealbreaker. The game is immensly huge in scope and I don't see a possibility of NOT having to go back to the rulebook every now and then, unless they made a dozen separate player aids (like I mentioned in the review). And at this point I prefer to go back to ONE rulebook than shuffle through an indefinite number of aids. Luckily the rulebook has a good index and is easy to navigate ;) plus - some of the more common things soon become more mechanical and you start using the rulebook only or almost only when something completely new comes up - like the first time you encounter a [VERY MILD SPOILER BELOW]

    I still like KD:M as a better game. This game is to fiddly. But for the price point, yes, save $200 - $300 and get this game. It has a lot more content than KD:M.
    I really wish AT:O came with pads of papper of the sheets you need to write down your journey. It kills me that i have to go to a copy and print store and bend the neatly bound book to make copies of the last pages. Or go to their website and print out a copy.
    The 3 things i dont like is the red and black 6 sided die. It feels pointless and adds to the complexity. I also dont like how the game stops and make you remove cards and add cards when you do hit something. I also dont like the kratos pool. I dont really get the timing of when i can build it or just use the power this round. Once i understand it i will like it more.
    I will say this is what i wanted sleeping gods to be like.

    • @lonevik
      @lonevik  Год назад

      Hey :) to each their own I guess. This has way more story and narrative than KDM ever would. I agree with your point about frequent breaks that take you out of the game to manage cards and upkeep stuff. Kratos pool is a good mechanic in my opinion - it forces a bit of planning ahead - but yeah it needs getting used to. As for the dice... I am still using the basic ones in my gear :D need more growth to advance to stronger ones :D definitely a plethora of options... and the setting is a keeper for me ;) thanks for an exhaustive comment :)
