Ah! An amp aimed at vintage Fender sound! Better grab my leather pants and Jackson so I can start shredding.
😂
Exactly. Wtf right..dudes a legend in his own mind...
I thought they meant "The Ventures" or that 60s Vintage sound(which can be achieved if you are stubborn enough).
Like most demos this spends a lot of time on shred tone and very little on clean tone. Considering Fender amps are traditionally known for being the "King of Clean" it doesn't say much about this model to cheaply and quickly gloss over the clean tones.
+fivepiece the super champ has one of the best clean tones i have ever heard...this was(i'M THINKIN) to show what other models the amp can produce...but in the normal channel no models..the clean is spectacular....
And they shouldn't gloss over this amp's clean tones because they are very, very good. But you know how it goes. The cool kids want to shred and play gnarly aggressive tones. So that's what they demonstrate.
SUPER badda** combo amp! It has the fender sound, good tube amp design plus onboard effects! You can leave your half stack or full stack & many effects at home as ultilize the PA on small venues & totally deliver great sound! Fender did their homework on this puppy!
Fish Tacos? Bleargh!!! Respect the player!
I love mine. Totally straight foward, easy to use. Very versitile. A lot of fun fooling around with the different sounds witout getting too "boged down." I'm not sure it's not praised more.
Fender amps are always the best amps right out the door.
the jaguar with binding looks super awesome!
If Fender had any sense they would come out with a 30 watt version of this amp, or better yet, a three channel 30 watt version with channel one set to the Tweed Champ for cleans, channel two set to the Tweed Bassman for crunch, and channel three set to the Tweed Deluxe for maximum overdrive. That's all 90% of us want.
+Charles Seper i wrote them and told them to do a 40 watt version..they already have the tube 40 watt platform..reply was "grret idea ill present it"....never another word.....but..the mustangs i was leary of but a friend has one and if your careful with your programming they can be made to sound incredible too..
+johncartelli ~ I've yet to play through a Mustang, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.
I've tried other speakers but have yet to find one that sounds as good as the stock Jensen. For some odd reason, that very nasal toned Eminence Ragin Cajun has become a popular replacement, but if you just search YT you can find about a half dozen recordings of that speaker with this amp, and every one of them sounds horrible. That speaker sounds nasty by itself. It would probably be more at home in a Vibrolux paired with a Jensen. I also have a Weber 5e3x2 (copy of a Victoria Double Deluxe) with a pair of 12" Jensen C12Q's in it. I'm primarily a Telecaster player though, and 12" speakers don't have much spank or twang like 10's do. I ran the speaker wire from my SCXD to the 5e3x2 the other day though for the heck of it, and even by itself it sounded better than the two Jensen's put together. The speaker in this SCXD is very good sounding and perfect for the SCXD. It would be nice if it was just a little more efficient (louder!)
My Double Deluxe has 4 6V6's and a power switch that let's me cut it to half power, so I can have either 14 -watts or 28-watts. For most people, that's plenty. 50 is nice to have too though if you play outdoors now and then or are in a well known band that plays large halls. However, I'm running very inefficient speakers right now at 95dB sensitivity. I could effectively double the power by bringing an extra cab loaded with 4 x 10" speakers, each with a 102 or so sensitivity. That would output an extra 3dB or so and sound a lot like 50-watts.
Wow, the tone he used with the Gretsch was awesome.
The Gretsch sounded really cool.
indeed!
I heard a demo of a guy playing through one of these with a strat, I think it was X2, nailing gilmour
I am super excited about this new amp. I love the SuperChamp XD already, and thinking about a stack with a 12 inch cabinet AND Fuse Functionality, this is going to be right up my alley. I am really looking forward to some more demos and vids from Fender for this Amp. I'd love to see a vid with just 'rock' sounds, and one with 'blues' applications too.
That studio and Jackson is burnin!
I like the different advice on how to get sounds!! I AM Buddy Princeton, anybody remember the FENDER PRINCETON AMP, THE LIL' buddy, WELL, I only wish I had the MONEY!!! ... but I am still BUDDY, and LEO is gone, and I am still in this business! I love the way tech has enhanced ROCK and roll and will continue to shape the sounds of the future!
Hello, I bought this amp/combo too. My tip is to leave it on for a while before you play to let valves warm up, then play it as much as poss to loosen up the speaker. When you get an hour to yourself plug in the usb to a laptop and begining with no1 preset simply try the basic options . The simpler the better. As it is a small combo I used mostly 1×12 speaker options , reverb and vibrato and some delay. The best thing of all is that it is a portable Fender amp ready for any situation. A swiss army knife of amps.
great style doc demo!
I played one of these amps today and it was just great, I couldn't actually flaw it (been playing nearly 30 years and make my own guitars and valve amps) except for the fact it doesn't have MIDI switching which these days is 'Dodo' territory. Its essentially a clean valve amp with a modeller on channel two and its actually rather good, I usually hate modellers but this one sings. An amazing range of amp models and effects including some where the effects are pre-amplifier.
I used to work with Rick at Zia records like 20 years ago! What a trip!
That Jackson solo is something else.
Nice Jag!
I gig with this amp in a duo. It sounds fantastic.
all cool...but totally amped via tech. I loved the girls!!
That White Falcon sounded great.
The X2 deserves much more than this
YeAHHHHHHH!!! Love my XD and will probably get this too! :)
just tried one of these at the music store... put it on sound #13, through an EVH cab and it was like an old cranked JMP... nice!
I'll have 2 fish tacos on corn with 2 sides of guacamole . Oh And some hot salsa .
Did your fish tacos ever turn up?
@@stonefateband3387 That would be a No.
yeah man, that double-bound Jag is dope! wow, pretty damn awesome Custom Shop job there.
You might not care much 8 years later but that looks like the Jaguar Thinline which was a MIJ limited edition, not a Custom Shop job. They were being sold new about the time this video was made.
Oh my - THAT STRAT !
I'll remember this the next time I want to completely fail and start a 80's butt rock band.
Don't let this shitty demo/video fool you. This is a great amp. Especially if you like some nice, clean tones.
Very cool! I have a original Cyber-Twin and a Mustang I, plus I know Shane :).
Fender deluxe reverb x2!! with effects loop, vintage 30 speaker and drive ,master volume channel 1...How awesome would be that!
For the guy that wants the versatility of a modeling amp and the upkeep of a tube amp.
It's been a lot of debate about this amp not being 100% tube.
So (at least for the first Chanel) is this an all tube pre-amp -power amp?
12ax7 is a phase inverter?
This amp still sounds wonderful though and it does warm up nicely from the power tubes.
Gretsch white falcon! That thing is so beautiful and awesome! Wish i had $3000 to get one haha
I wish Fender would make a straight up 10-15 watt 6v6 (w/o digital effects) for the masses in the Blues Jr. format.
Does the reverb work on the Fender super champ x2 when the effects are turned off, that is, it turns off only when it is muted? That's how it works for me, maybe it's a malfunction?!
I'm sorry but, if I closed my eyes and listened, there is very little difference between both the changes made on the amp and the guitars as far as sound and tone go. IDK if it was an error in recording but, it all sounded very thin.
Hey guys, lets take a super champ and make a documentary about it. We can use all this studio equipment and change the hell out of the way it sounds so people will buy it and never duplicate our sounds. Why not just play the guitar thru the amp straight, the way it should be, not thru all your software and equalizers and stuff.
super champ has a digital preamp...but runs a tube(dual 6V6 tubes) for a power amp...I have one and it sounds awesome for what it is...there are a bunch of demos online with just the amp...or get to a store and try it yourself...one of the best amps I have ever owned.
I have one of the earlier xd models...one of the best amps I have ever owned...to be louder...I use a pv duece as a power amp....
I sent a request to the Fender site and asked for a 40 watt version to be built..told them to call it the SUPER DELUXE XD. the reply was "fantastic idea...I'll sent it off to the amp team"....cant wait.. I'll buy it!!
johncartelli I can't tell if you are being serious or not with your posts. SCXD has a tube pre. 12ax7. They already built the deluxe vintage modified a couple of years back. Its discontinued. www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/fender-deluxe-vm-40w-1x12-tube-guitar-combo-amp
TheDustinPeterson
deluxe vm has no modeling...only the fx...i want a 40 watt version of the super champ...I meant solid state fx and modeling...sorry for any confusion...
johncartelli I have the head with a cab I built with 2x10's greenbacks in a closed back cab. It sounds fookin amazing.
more variation on the super champ X2, so it DEPENDS on what you are going to use. BOTH are tops, and with either, you will be heard at your best!
Awesome! Two fish tacos, por favor!
I am in the process of returning my VT40+ to swap it out or this because my brand new Vox VT40+ was way too quiet in brand practice yesterday, I was really disappointed with its volume level. If you can afford this then it is the louder option according to GAK (the guys I bought it from), and it's a proper tube amp, so it should have a prettier sound.
-P
TO Clever name here, They MIKE them for shows, most drummers can be in glass, and you can usually HEAR, OR you messed up your sound check and set up! THE AMP is fine, how you use it is to figure out from experience, and this video is about tweeking the sounds.
first saw your comment, I thought 'hater!!'.
But I listened, and you are so right.
Give me a 22 or 30 watt Super Champ X2 and i'm happy!!!
I thought they were only available as 15 watters
@@mattgilbert7347 Correct. But i also want 22 or a 30 watt for gigs.
@ johncartelli my xd runs a 12ax7 for the preamp. It has dsp processing on the 2nd channel. From what i understand, its a class A tube amp on channel one. The only digital processing happens on the 2nd channel.
The one 12ax7 is not a true preamp tube but is the phase inverter for
the powertubes. The preamp is provided by a couple of op-amps
(solid-state) and a DSP board (for channel 2). If you want the tube version of this, buy the 65 Princeton Reverb. It has the exact same power-section but with a tube preamp as well.
Does it emulate Marshall type amps too? Thanks.
It's all in the head ;-)
which mics did you use? I think one might be the sm57, but I am not sure about the other one. thank you guys for helping :)
It took me 2 years to get it sounding 99% princeton blackface. 1, alnico P10r speaker to replace the orig, an ecc81(12AT7) for the phase and for some reason it went from"I just dont like this" to "I am keeping this". I don't really know the techy side of it but I started with the speaker and was lucky enough to find some AT7's in a big electrical store. Setting 11 and, master vol 3/4/5 and use the gain vol as the volume it comes to life. I was actually looking for 12ax7(ecc83) but they didnt have any so I tried the AT7 and I am surprised at the difference, that orrible hard boxy treble has turned into a sparkley punchey wonder.
for those "in the know" I am 51 and not the greatest techno saavy guy. will I need a MAC to do computer recording? Or will a PC have enough umph... to do it? I have a couple tascams and I get by, but I am late to the computer recording game. I have this amp, and would love to do some computer recording for ease
3:07 "Smart ass". Lol. Appreciate the documentary style demo for the Super Champ x2
Rick is actually very very good. This video does not do him justice by any means.
Would this amp be fine to be play at small venues
Can I connect a 15" speaker to this head?
@moonblister I grew up with the orginal Champ. I've also owned the Champ XD for a couple of years now. The original is incredibly whimpy by comparison. This little monster can actually sound EXACTLY like a 59 Bassman at 1/4 the cost and without blowing the roof off the house with volume. In fact, I think it sounds better than the tweed Bassmans. It's the best sounding amp I've ever heard period.
Dang man. How much did you get paid by fender to say tgat....
@@Allguitarinfo Here's a quarter kid. Buy a friend.
@sugeci You are sooo wrong. This is a product demo! Nothing more. They did it in a studio enviroment to give it a certain feel and vibe.
Which one you guys think is better: this or the Blackstar HT-1R? Cause they are the same price. Thanks.
Its got tubes two 6v6 for power and the fx are digital
Hi fender. Can you bring back the 80's riviera super champ back? The all tube one.
The Fender site wasn't mentioning the XD amps for a day or so, and bam now we have the X2. Seems like it's keeping the Super Champ XDs simple inviting vibe, but integrating some of the Mustang features via usb. Either way great value amp, I'm liking this and Fenders new Valco looking amp. Excelsior was it?
I do think this demo could have used some work. In January I picked up the SuperChamp XD for $200 used. It's a smoking little amp. It could easily play a small bar gig no problem, and the tones are (mostly) pleasing to the ear. My only gripe with mine is the "metal" setting - putting a grungy, hellbent distorted tone through a 10" speaker doesn't sound all that pleasing.
I'd never demo that amp with a Jackson. Just why!?
do people who had the original super champ get a deal for trading in?
great amp from Fender to distortion, but those cleans and those Blues naaaahhhh, my Blues Junior Still kick ass
What’s it like with pedals ?
What were the blues shuffle chords played in 5:20?
Is the head version going to come in blonde with oxblood grill cloth? Thanks.
Do you think this amp can play with a band / play shows (that arent mic-ed up)??
Question? I had my Super Champ XD for a year from new. Amp is 1.5 yrs old. It stopped working. Fender is repairing it now. If they have the amp for 2-4 months, do i get that 2-4 months added to my warranty. To get it fixed i had to drive 80 miles first trip and they expect shipping charges also. Looks like i will be out maybe $50 for all this.
hello anyone know what song or riffs hes playing at 4:03 with gretsh guitar?
Hello I work for fender, but for the demo of this fender amp I will use guitars without the fender name on them.
Lol
whats better
the XD or X2?
@pickandstring Sure it does !
@1Guug Of course you can compare them. I just did.
0:01 - When the hits of the guitar pick on the string are just as loud or louder than the amp...
I know. You are right. Sounds like a cell phone video.
@gmdinformation i would say that you can't compare these two. Both great amps i prefer the Bassman 59 because of the 4 10's
@salmonline Ah. That would explain it. Thanks for the info :)
seems great.. but I love my XD ;)
does this replace the super champ xd?
I really love the cleaner sound, but that's not the feel I want with electric
What model Jaguar is that??
NO ACTUALLY THIS IS, THERE IS A TON OF ATTITUDE, AND DISTRACTION. THAT IS SHOWN HERE, AS IT USUALLY PLAYS OUT, WITH SOME SLIGHT VARIATIONS!
I have a real champ 70's silverface 6 watts volume treble and bass. That's all I need. Keep it simple for the tone mojo
How Walmart makes CDs. All corny playing until some acceptable stuff near the end.
Yes, we can do another take, as soon as you pick corn or flour.
What do I have to do to get paid testing guitars and amps?
Hey... Rick Heins.... Isn't he the dude who have been fired in the Fender Mustang Mini clip? :^P
well with all due respect, i ain't no hipster and i can't afford a fender twin or even a deluxe reverb, so this is just perfect for me.
thanks
I have a question that would really help me out here. I'm new to using heads and cabs, i've only been using combos. I was looking for a head and cab that would be worth getting and that would be louder than the 80 watt combo i have now. i like what i've heard and read from this head and was considering it for the price, but the real question is wether it will work with the cab im looking at. the cab is a marshall mg412cf 4x12 120 watt cab. if you could reply back it would help a lot thanks!
Hello, plug it into the Marshall it will sound great. The best sound I got was by using the line out on the back of the champ to plug into whatever other amp was available. Try it, anyway you like. If you have help and are travelling get the head and use a cabinet but the combo is special cos its easy to lug around and has that line out and a speakervjack output too..
watch Don Anderson play through one here on utube....
What model guitar and everything is that at 4:35
Fender Jaguar I think. Very big in the early '60s, and treasured by many artists to this day
this demo was terrible but accidentally answered my questions about dirty tones on this thing
does it work perfect with pedals?
Yes it does.
Who is this guy Rick? Is he famous muscian? Anyway I've seen him in other Fender videos and I must say I just don't care for him, there is something about him that just rubs me wrong way but he has cool job
That Gretcsh sounded great
did You understand what The Guy With The gretsch is playing?
+xXleoxkXx I don't understand your question
+Doofapotamus Gaming did You understand what chords is playing that guy with a gretsch?
+xXleoxkXx I'm sorry but I really don't understand what it is you're asking me lol
Doofapotamus Gaming i asked you the chords
i've got one of these, its great, some people don't have big bucks to pay for big amps, whats wrong with it?? tbh, i'm not bothered by the effects, only use the tremolo, i love EC but FUCK the extortionate prices for that amp maybe when i'm better off i'll get one, till then, this amp rocks!!
cual es mejor el champ x2 o el hot rod deluxe??? los son son tubulares ???
Both good, champ is more versatile and you can save on too many effect pedals. The best thing is that the valves dont rattle in the champ. It is very clean sounding and loud too.
Two fish tacos....and a chalupa too....
