    Man this is one of the best product reviews I've seen- A quick and direct rundown of the amps potential. Thanks a bunch and well done!
    Oh and I'd add (for all those asking about gigging), you can "gig" with any amp you want.. Just mic it. I've played large venues with shitty little solid-state low-power amps. The worst thing to me is when a dude shows up with a 100w amp for a gig in the corner of a small bar (which is where 95% of us gig 99% of the time), and he's either way too loud, or frustrated bc he can't get any tone out of his $2k amp with the volume on 2% 😝😝 don't be that asshole!

    • @jchavins

      I agree. has nobody heard of a PA? the only time you ever need an amp bigger than this one is if you're playing w/ bass and drums and want to use your amp as a monitor. otherwise mic up your little 15 watt amp and use the cash you save on quality effects.

    Amazing amp! I bought one today, the tones and sound are just so damn good, you won't put your guitar down,
    This is the first tube amp I own, and it's changing every thing I know about how to play and handle a guitar.
    Worth every penny!!!
    Please don't buy an expensive guitar, this is what you need, a great amp with loads of outstanding tones.
    I can't believe I waited this long to discover and experience what a tube amp is.

    It's a shame these were discontinued. This is one of the best small amps Fender has put out. I'm not saying it's a better amp than Fender's classic tube amp models such as the Deluxe Reverb or Princeton, but it's such a versatile practice amp. You can get so many different sounds and cover so much ground with it. Although it's a hybrid amp with a modeling section, it sounds and feels much more authentic than the digital modeling amps. I'm glad these are still around on the used market in good condition. I plan to get one in the next couple of months. I need a good versatile "around the house" amp that I can also use for small jams with friends.

    • @15thwardadrian
      @15thwardadrian Год назад +1

      I still have my Super Champ X2 and I love it. I also have a TM Deluxe Reverb and a ‘65 Super Reverb for live work, and I love those amps with my pedalboard for festival shows and other sizable gigs. Where the SCX2 shines is at home practice, or at a small scale gig, when I just want to plug straight in, work my volume control, and not be arsed with setting up a full scale rig with a full pedal board. The weakness in these amps is the DSP card running the digital effects section. I’ve talked to several techs that have had these amps come across their workbench with the digital FX non functional. Because it is such an inexpensive amp, they’re usually not worth the cost of repairing even if you can source the parts-which isn’t often. I can also recommend a speaker upgrade, as that really opens these amps up significantly..

    • @Kevlarel84
      @Kevlarel84 Год назад

      @@15thwardadrian What speaker do you like in the Superchamp? I was planning to leave it stock. Mainly because I have a 1x12 extension cab I can always plug into for a little "more". It's just something I used to use with an old setup and has the original Celestion 70/80 speaker in it. I was actually planning at some point to upgrade it to a V-Type or Greenback celestion in that. I might go for a creamback if I find one at a reasonable price. But who knows, I might want to upgrade that 10 inch at some point. I tend to tinker when I get bored. I already sold off a couple of my bigger amps a while back. Planning to get the X2 for around the house. If I ever do anything that I would need to compete with a drummer I'll be looking for a bigger combo. My two most likely choices for that will be the Fender Supersonic 22 1x12 or the Blackstar Club40 MKII (EL34 variant).

    • @15thwardadrian
      @15thwardadrian Год назад

      @@Kevlarel84 The Celestion speakers you list above are great options in the SCX2. Others have found that the Ragin’ Cajun’ works well also. With regard to your larger amp choices, both sound good, but you should be aware that a technician willing to service or repair a Blackstar amp can be hard to find. These modern PCB board amps are designed to be essentially disposable. You can usually find a technician that will work on a Supersonic 22 so it can be repaired and serviced. That’s a big plus, though it is still a PCB amp.

    • @Kevlarel84
      @Kevlarel84 Год назад

      @@15thwardadrian Thanks for the advice on the amp choices. I'll keep that info in mind. The Fender Supersonic would be my first choice anyway. Blackstar is still an option for me though. I have two Blackstar dealers pretty close to me. One of them is a store I've done extensive business with in the past. It's where I bought my first Fender guitar and amp back in 2001. They are still a Fender dealer and they are a certified Blackstar dealer as well. They do work on them. While Blackstar has had some problematic amps I don't think the Club 40 MKII combo is on that list. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I've wanted a Supersonic for a long time.

    • @15thwardadrian
      @15thwardadrian Год назад

      @@Kevlarel84 A bandmate of mine uses an older HT Club 40, and I have to say that it really sounds good. It has plenty of power for most gigs also. He encountered some trouble finding a tech to diagnose an intermittent problem that turned out to be a simple solder joint issue. A lot of the techs here in the east TN/N GA area of the US only really want to work on old school handwired amps. If you have a Blackstar servicing dealer local to you, then I'd say that's not going to be an issue for you. If the Blackstar fits your needs and budget, it could be the right choice for you.

    Great video. I bought my SCXD back in 2008 after hearing a friend's at a local open mic. I have done most of the non-soldering/voltage meter mods such as the Ragin Cajun speaker upgrade and tube swaps. Great fun, great amp. So naturally when asked recently to recommend an amp in this output range to a budding young player, I nominated the SCX2, in either the combo or stacked configuration.
    It needs to be said, that with an efficient high quality speaker (and tubes of your choice), this amp is not just for practice. I gig all the time with mine, where it holds its own with the Deluxe Reverbs and un-miced drums in small and medium sized clubs. For anything bigger (and hopefully with a good sound tech on the board), I often just stick an SM57 in front of it and run it through the house system.
    Love my SCXD.

I have the combo, but I run it into a Burriss 1X12 cab with a WGS Reaper speaker. Sounds amazing...light years better than with the stock speaker. I dare say it sounds as good as the Twin itself.

    I had a Blues Junior, but somehow I never really bonded with it, so I moved on to a Hot Rod Deluxe which I loved but was too loud to play in the house (I'm a bedroom guitarist). My multi-year search for the perfect bedroom-level, non-boutique practice amp eventually led me to this - the Fender Super Champ X2. Just toss out the standard speaker and replace with an Eminence Ragin Cajun and you will not believe how great this little amp sounds. Classic Fender clean with sweet breakup as you crank it up past 4. I hardly ever use the modeling channel, although someday I'll explore it. I can honestly say that my search for a practice amp is over!

    Great review. I bought this amp (Head Version) and modified a 2x12 cab for it with a Celestion Greenback and a G12P. Covers the high's and low's perfectly. Plenty loud for a medium volume setting, and with it's line out or my Sennheiser e609 I can cover any size venue. I usually crank amp to about 6 or 7 to push the tubes and use guitar volume to control amount of overdrive. I don't believe anyone would regret buying this amp. It covers every genre of music, and does it well. Price-Unbelievable

It may on paper appear to be a small amp but mine has done hundreds of gigs in pubs and clubs with no problems. At 8 or 9 this baby screams more than you would think. Being a tube front end just be careful to let it warm up and cool down and take care when loading it in the car after playing else you will go through a lot of valves.

    Ok, this is from awhile ago but I'm in love with this amp!! Hiiped to it now bacause of a Sweetwater Ltd Ed version. I don't know how i missed this back then. In '06, i cruised by a shop and they had an original Super Champ, Rivera designed. I got a killer tone in 5 seconds. Went home and told the Missus. She said Buy it. Went back and it was gone. Owner changed his mind (wisely) and took it home. Had $400 cash and bought an out of box Blues Jr. Sure, great deal but hard to dial in at bedroom volumes. Sadly it was gone 3 years later.
    Heck, i can't really use the X2 but want one anyways. Not even sure if my CyberTwin works anymore....haven';t played thru it in over 2 years.

    Just to clarify for everyone: this thing sounds like a beast if you're playing with humbuckers and through a bigger speaker cabinet (or 4x12). Although the higher-gain amp models are well done, they are "Fenderized" versions of Mesa or Marshall tones (primarily due to 6V6 tube power section and not EL84s I imagine). It's worth going to the guitar store to try out. First thing you need to do is crank the gain, bass EQ, and high EQ to 10 to really get a feel for the full range of the tones.

    Regarding "bass flub"....It's only a 10 inch so that's bound to happen when you crank it up and turn up the bass past half-way. I upgraded to a Celestion Gold G10 and it resolved the bass flub, and also added some amazing round, bell-like chime to an already fantastic sounding amp without affecting the character. I see others recommended the Ragin' Cajun....DONT. I went that route to begin with and it destroyed the clarity and chime in a big way. Go Gold or just leave the stock speaker in the cab.

      Totally agree with you on the speaker upgrade. I put a Celestion greenback in mine and it sharpened up the sound throughout. I agree that this would not be a good place for a Ragin; Cajun, which is a very good speaker,, but wrong for the Super Champ.

    Got loads of new amps and pedals coming up this week. :) These amps are great for sure makes recording really easy. I was shocked how nice it sounds. I have a deluxe as well and it records as nice that's for sure :)

    I had one of these for several years Shane. The only thing I wish I had done, was get the head/speaker box instead. The combo has a 10" speaker and the head/box has a 12". Other than that, it is definitely loud enough to gig in small venues. It will keep up with a drummer!

    For my money this amp really comes alive when you use the fuse software. Mids are set really high from the factory.

    • @captainhotbunz659
      @captainhotbunz659 3 года назад

      @juano isquia unfortunately it can’t, the fender fuse software is only for the X2 version. However the XD version is still a great amplifier so enjoy it and rock on!!

      Glad to hear that!!! Just bought one and I would love to drop the mids! Was about to sell it, because it does not sound “Fender scooped” with the 10” speaker. I will try that first 🥺

    I think it sounds great. Good for recording and it came up sounding good on here with no effects added. I had no trouble getting a usable sound out of it. I've also tried the head and box version and had the same experience with it. Vox is good i have two ;)

    This is a really helpful demo. The close-up video insert is a great idea to actually see what's happening on the amp. I appreciated hearing the clean sounds to start with and not having the whole demo on some heavy metal preset. Also, repeating the same guitar riff while changing amp settings is the way to go. I hope other reviewers will be influenced by this approach.
    I guess the F/Xs are ok but it seems one can't use two effects at the same time (let's say reverb and tremolo). Of course, there is a way around that with pedals. On the suggestion box side, I wish the demo could have included a brief comparison with the Super Champ's X2 head and SC112 enclosure.
    Still, you did a great job. The amp is on my Xmas list !

    • @eaqwallbender8269
      @eaqwallbender8269 4 месяца назад

      On the X2 is possible to use tremolo with reverb if you connect to the Fuse software, edit some effects slot a save it into the amp. You can even have 4 effects together: delay + reverb + modulation (chorus, flanger, tremolo, I believe...+more) + stomp box (compressor, od, fuzz...). But you can't use 2 effects of the same sort together (like 2 different modulations or 2 stomp boxes)

    Just bought this one day ago, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get a champion 100 since my parents told me it was too big for me , who’s new to amps and all. But honestly once I got to discover the other cool sounds from fender tweeds to black face, from vox to Marshall , and from clean to drive, I didn’t want to plug out my tele.Yeah the champion 100 has pretty much more choices but this amp is good enough for me to gig with and it’s light enough to carry my case in one hand and this on the other.And great review shayne😉

    • @noahbergman7777

      Another thing is the super champ is tube and the champion 100 is solid state. Most people (including me) like tube amps better

    • @richardshank7659
      @richardshank7659 4 года назад

      yeah dude take it from someone whos been playing for 11 plus years the super champ is more amp than that solid state champion 100 could ever dream to be because its a tube amp. not saying the champion 100 is bad but nothing can replace that tube sound.

    It works it works it works...the marriage of old and new tech!!! I reckon this took more effort to develop than any other Fender amp. Remember from blues to surf music to jazz and Rock n roll and even ethnic music(in Greece Fender amps with reverb are a must for stringed instruments). Wonderful, 80 years of music history in one portable combo.Cant stop playing it either.BTW its obvious but let it warm up 5/10 mins before pluging in to play.
