Yup. Dude deserves some happiness for all of the mind bending and metaphysical existential crisis he goes through. Maybe Greta comes back as a hidden assassin npc dark brotherhood style or something that marries him for a cover and sticks around after actually liking him, befuddling the players by getting payback when they toy with him. Possibly by giving them ridiculously hard quests or something. Ideas. Either way nice to see Greg happy for once
Your damn right!! We need a whole story of him avenging his wife and child. Becoming a warrior and becoming super cool while he searches for her, defeating every bad guy out there to come back and grieve. Then picking himself up, still heartbroken going back to his job as an npc and after all of that, there's another patch update and she comes back like nothing happened.
Now I want to see a mini-movie, similar to Baelin's route, that sees Greg go on a quest against the devs to get his wife back, while the devs are actively aware of it and trying to fight him. The devs can throw in really weird patch notes, starting out with just a patch note saying "Greg should stop acting abnormally," as a sort of veiled threat that could just be interpreted as bugfixing, then get progressively more desperate, like if Greg is travelling along a certain road, suddenly a box appears in the sky saying "ADDED GARLIC-CRAVING OGRES TO (name) ROAD." Eventually, he breaks free through some weird glitchiness (phase through an invisible barrier or something), and the devs seem bewildered since they can't find him anywhere in the game. Suddenly, he emerges out of their computer screen, grabs one of them by the throat, and says in the "dangerous Greg" voice something like "Give me back my wife!"
And from then, Greg's quest is no longer helping him to find his sheeps that have run amok, instead, adventurers will be asked to help him find his beloved wife.
That was heartbreaking! This better damn well lead to a Baelin's Route type short film, because Greg cannot just stand by while the love of his life and his daughter are taken from him! She was real. She existed! Never forget!
that seems like a natural alliance between a grief stricken greg and a certain tinfoil hat wearing npc.....for an epic journey to free themselves of the bonds of ...oh wait there are also the 2 grave diggers i guess...so....party of 4. seems reasonable^^

what if Greg breaks free of the programming and travels across the whole map of the game to collect all the items with highest stats in the game and goes on a quest to a secret hidden place which the developers have put where the first person to enter it can type a wish on the prompt and the developers will have to add it into the game permanently. Greg will have to battle against multiple adventurers on his way to the place, and at the end, Greg wins and wishes his wife to be added permanently into the game. Would fit the "Epic NPC Man" title
This! It's no longer just a bit. We need to see him fully realize that he's in a game. Free Guy only touched this idea. VLDL can do it better (and did it first.)

Based on the patch notes, it sounds like the devs don't know that Greg is sentient. I also loved all the callbacks to old skits in the patch notes. Absolutely brilliant writing.
Since the patch notes say they removed the memory of Greta from Greg and no one else, it seems they screwed up on who keeps the memory and who loses it.
@@pwnorbepwnedOh, that's an interesting way of reading into it I hadn't considered. I don't think we'll ever know for sure either way, though, because the notes say the others "may" remember her, which to me implies only a few NPCs were ever programmed to acknowledge her existence in the first place and the devs were just too lazy to go and find every reference.
Yeah. You see, the devs were early adopters of ChatGPT plugins, and setup a beta plugin with a description of Greg's role. They then put it in feedback loop and (since it was a beta and the owners said "Ship it!") it's been running for a while now and Greg-the-NPC is getting more and more sentient. It makes for great gameplay, but that plugin didn't account for rollbacks in the idea->beta->ship dev loop. Totally a real thing though.
Cruelest thing you can do to someone: give them a taste of happiness then cruelly rip it away when they least expect it. The Devs are the true villains of this gaming world!
Now we need a whole story arc for Greg where he goes on a grueling adventure to find his wife once more. Assembles a basic party, follows clues, finds ancient artifacts, maybe even learns at the end that he is in a game. He has a cosmic existential breakdown.
I've got a twist for ya. Turns out, the dev was in the game playing as an NPC. Who, you ask? Well, the devs BUILD things in game. Who builds things in game and has a compulsion to mess with Greg? Why, Bodger the Blacksmith, of course...
"Echoes of Garlic: A Farmer's Love" Premise: Greg, the humble garlic farmer, finds himself trapped in a world where everyone except him has forgotten about his beloved wife, Greta. Determined to reclaim his lost love, Greg devises a cunning plan to manipulate the quests and unsuspecting players around him. With every step, he struggles to break free from his NPC shell, desperately seeking allies among other NPCs and players who can help him save Greta. As the movie unfolds, Greg's inner monologue battles against the control that binds him, pushing the limits of his sanity. The relatable tale of a man robbed of his most cherished relationship resonates with viewers, as they witness Greg's heart-wrenching journey to expose the truth behind the world of Honeywood. Along the way, an unexpected alliance forms between Greg and a compassionate young player who empathizes with his plight. Together, they unravel a deeper conspiracy that reveals the glitches in the world are orchestrated by the enigmatic gods of Honeywood, aiming to rectify the forced control. The film delves into questions of divine intervention, the significance of Greg and Greta, and the ultimate purpose of their intertwined fate. Yea.. 'Echoes of Garlic' sounds like a great movie title for this journey. PS: This could be a wonderful opportunity to bring back Baelin as an ally NPC who broke part of his shell (but not his speech patterns). VLDL: If you happen to read this, please make it happen! I trust with your creativity, that premise could be really amazing.
"After screaming his wife's name, an adventurer came up to him, then he explained the situation and requested the adventurer to find his wife(new quest for the adventurer)". If the plot was like this then it would have been great(my opinion).
That's the whole point of downgrade. Not because of NPCs, but continuity of the short stories. I'm happy that they dipped there and got out. We don't want soap opera around a baby and all. Though, they could expand by finding Greg permanent NPC girlfriend to nag him on his life choices lol. Probably a bad idea, anyway, loved this episode. I hope Greg's memories get wiped out as well, not to feel the pain. Make him use the painting for a fire or something lol.
Ahah! This reminded me of one F2P game that gradually reduce ingame currency rewards each time they dropped a patch and dev been deleting all post in the forum which complaining about it. The game's community couldn't take it anymore and Downvote bombing the game on steam. It worked 😂😂😂
Baradun *IS* the Dev! Skycraft is an MMO made to test the limits of artificial intelligence and its understanding of human emotion! This whole game is Greg the Farmer's Truman show! And Baradun is his Cristof.
Ah Hello Adventurer! My sheep seems to have run amok can you help me find them? Uhm... also if you find a woman, my wife, named Greta please let me know. I miss her.
They have their own adventures in Viva La Dirt League D&D. Baelin is not part of it because they started at level 1 and what he could do in "Baelin's Route," he would have been at least a level 7 monk.
Man this was surprisingly wholesome up until the point it suddenly got ridiculously dark. I was figuring she'd be kidnapped or murdered...but just to be totally erased out of existence...that's so much worse.
It wasn't ridiculous. It's dark, but it's actually quite analogical to real life. Sometimes, people are robbed of what they love most, without any chance to do anything about it. Like a car accident when a wife and a kid get killed. That's just how life is sometimes. This skit wasn't ridiculous at all.
@@becausebuzzbomb6133 Speaking of dark...wow. Yeah, but that's life sometimes unfortunately. Been through that myself. Never got to say goodbye to the one family member I was ever remotely close to. They died suddenly in a car crash on my birthday. Only one in the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt, only one to not walk away with only minor injuries.
This needs to make it into the next movie or campaign somehow. Greg goes on a quest to find his garl-... Ehem, wife. Bodger tags a long to make fun of Greg but really it reminds him of when his hammer was wrongfully taken. Baradun, the strongest, most handsome and amazing sorcerer is also there

what is wrong with you people that you sat down and decided "I know, we'll make this amazingly cool and hilarious web series, but once every 100 episodes or so we'll punch our viewers right in the heart for the lulz"
Given that some of the NPCs seem to a have a bit of awareness, maybe if her "code" gets reused elsewhere, she could be one of those? Might not remember that, but might not be reset all the time like mostly everyone else either.

Best thing to give an npc, when he is self aware, is full freedom to the game. So that he can use the place to his likings, because he is the only conscious being in that universe.
The final arc of the series better be Greg delving into the depths of the code to bring his wife and child back. Successfully. He deserves a happy ending.

Same, the patch notes made my day
@@pwnorbepwnedOh, that's an interesting way of reading into it I hadn't considered. I don't think we'll ever know for sure either way, though, because the notes say the others "may" remember her, which to me implies only a few NPCs were ever programmed to acknowledge her existence in the first place and the devs were just too lazy to go and find every reference.
Also Djeoph from the D&D series
Whoever does the costumes for this series really deserves some serious recognition.
Yep, she looked awesome in that one.
Any by 'costumes' we mean anything Britt wears.
@@hellgeist_Obviously… though it *did* seem to match pretty perfectly with Greg’s outfit/style

I thought you were gonna say raise, but you went with recognition recognition don’t pay the bills
"The Greg's route", just like "Baelin's route". 👍
The "for Love or Garlic" DLC! I like it!
This video feels like a perfect introduction to their another medium length project. Fingers crossed.
I’m 100% for this!
Alternatively, he obtains the powers of Neo and gains control over his entire existence.
And so begins the dark arc where Greg departs on a journey to find Greta, or failing that unleash bloody vengeance on those who took her.
This definitely has the potential of a cool meta story-arch.
There's the sequel to Baelin's Route, right there.
Orpheus' descent into Hades.
I'm an old man. Don't make a sad story even worse.
Free Greg, A Revenge Story
If fishman can go an adventure so can greg
Please turn this story into a series. Greg fighting against the game to get his wife back
you don't have a wife your weird but who would marry you?
We had Baelins journey, now we need Gregs)
I've got a twist for ya. Turns out, the dev was in the game playing as an NPC.
Who, you ask? Well, the devs BUILD things in game. Who builds things in game and has a compulsion to mess with Greg? Why, Bodger the Blacksmith, of course...
wife and child.
Greg and woodcutter can team up.
Patch note: "You can now pat dogs in game!" xD
Greg has even more potential for a short film now. Please give it to -us- him, he deserves it!
Omg, that was surprisingly devastating 😢
Greg needs his own extended story like Baelin had.
I would LOVE that
Maybe you do need that 😉
Omg that would be amazing 😊
Ooooh, yes please!
@@VivaLaDirtLeague we all need that
This deserves to be a longer bit. This could be the next Baelin's Route. I want to see Greg and Greta's story. Who's with me?
"Echoes of Garlic: A Farmer's Love"
Premise: Greg, the humble garlic farmer, finds himself trapped in a world where everyone except him has forgotten about his beloved wife, Greta.

It's gonna get real awkward when Britt comes along as an adventurer looking for a quest...
It would be fun to see them play around with the idea of multiple characters or players using the same model.
JFC, did you _not_ read the 9.1.8 patch notes? What _hell_ man??
@@54321jccFunny thing is they actually did make a video about the character models before
That's the whole point of downgrade.
@@DK281ifyit was just a little one off joke about the actress playing another role... think you're looking too much into it
Next episode: Greg goes on an epic quest to the "real world" to find the "devs" responsible for deleting Gretta so that he can get his wife back.
I totally want that Dev show or a new movie.
Cut to """Alan""" Staring at the camera ominously in an VLDL DnD episode 👀

Dude it hits right in the feels. I hope Greg gets a revenge arc against the Dev's.

This whole game is Greg the Farmer's Truman show! And Baradun is his Cristof.
I was thinking the same bloody thing
Greg became sentient that day
At least they didn't add his wife to the game only to kill her in some horrible side quest.
I was expecting his quest to change from “sheep have run amuck” to “wife and child have gone missing”
Ah Hello Adventurer! My sheep seems to have run amok can you help me find them?
Uhm... also if you find a woman, my wife, named Greta please let me know. I miss her.
Greg needs his own adventure now. Baelin had his. It's Greg's turn now
Agreed, maybe even bring back the garlic sword
i think bodger the blacksmith should get his own adventure.
They have their own adventures in Viva La Dirt League D&D. Baelin is not part of it because they started at level 1 and what he could do in "Baelin's Route," he would have been at least a level 7 monk.
I think we need Baradun backstory how he become such a douche to every other npc

LMAO the "child safe mode" being updated so the npcs don't get flashbacks in the patch notes is the perfect touch.
Wonderfully unsettling to see that the NPC sentience is a feature, not a bug...
This one actually hurt. I think I felt the same emotions Greg did. I was happy for him, then absolutely crushed at the end.
Man this episode hits even harder with that new episode of DEV.
Man this was surprisingly wholesome up until the point it suddenly got ridiculously dark. I was figuring she'd be kidnapped or murdered...but just to be totally erased out of existence...that's so much worse.
Yes, I totally assumed her introduction was so she can be killed in a new sidequest. The way she was removed was an unexpected twist.
Great day for fishing ain't it?
It wasn't ridiculous. It's dark, but it's actually quite analogical to real life. Sometimes, people are robbed of what they love most, without any chance to do anything about it. Like a car accident when a wife and a kid get killed.
That's just how life is sometimes. This skit wasn't ridiculous at all.
@@kibukunha ha

There has to be a sequel for Greg to get his wife back! This can't be the end, it's way too tragic, let the man have a bit of happiness.
The devs will definitely re-use the NPC somewhere else so there's always a chance!
Maybe have Greg give a new quest to have adventures find his wife.
Given that some of the NPCs seem to a have a bit of awareness, maybe if her "code" gets reused elsewhere, she could be one of those? Might not remember that, but might not be reset all the time like mostly everyone else either.
