I believe Ziad's roommate was the one wearing the fake bomb. Al Haznawi was stopped carrying a large bag according to the Flight that Fought Back. I believe it was the so called bomb. I think they killed him first before they came to the front of plane and killed Almami.

It was never lost, the hijackers decided to crash the plane themselves when they thought the passengers would've broken through the cockpit door
