    I absolutely love your channel! In 11 days I have my first kayak tournament as a member of a local club and I give you some credit for that. First, watching you learn as you compete sends the message that you don't have to wait until you're "experienced" to get started. Second, you told me some months back that you waited too long to get started and advised me to just do it and not procrastinate. (paraphrased). So that's what I'm doing. I appreciate you and look forward to every video you post.

      That is so awesome! Good luck and have fun in your tournament! Remember that catching fish is not the measure for success (but I hope you catch lots of giants!). :)

      Hahaha I am afraid I am starting this all a little too late in life to ever reach "legend" status, but I'm going to give it a good run!

      Thanks! People often ask me, but it always felt like a weird thing to do a video about. Then people started nagging me about an intro video so I figured two birds one stone! 🤣

    I started watching your channel last year, and what I love is how excited you get when you catch a fish, or even when you get out on the water and contemplate your strategy decisions - you're very unassuming, and seem so genuine! I'm a lifelong amateur fisherman, but this year I'm purchasing a kayak because it looks so fun. Keep the videos coming!

    Very cool I've been watching you for awhile , you are so talented in many ways , foosball, skiing, fishing, editing and even to my surprise a bartender ! You have taught me many things including sticking with something you love even when it gives you a hard time. Thank you for what you do and keep it up

    You know we have a lot in common. I played a little foosball in college, although I never made it to the tour level😛. I also lived in California, and started kayak fishing with an Old Town kayak. I thought they made the Lynx for me - clearly I was wrong about that one. They should call it Mellissa's Hobie. Stay safe on the hills this winter and hope you catch lots of lunker bass once the season starts.

      That's funny, Lynx people must be alike at the heart! I'll totally be in the Lynx fan club with you! This is your summer now, right? I hope you are having fun!

      @@GirlGoneFishing Woke up to 34 degree temps today. We might get a freeze or two during winter but it won't be long before things warm up again.

    Mission accomplished Melissa! I got the courage to go to my first (BKFT) tourney because of YOUR videos, which revealed the unknowns of what these events would look like. Life long angler but couldn't get any of my buddies to join me in a yak or trail tourney. I assumed it would be a very hostile, 200 boat shotgun start, angler territoriality fuled and no welcome place for rookies in yaks (imagined a bassmasters open mixed with the scene from Jaws where the harbor is full of local captains in over crowded boats with dynamite). I was honestly intimidated, for no real reason, and stayed with online-only tourneys until I saw how much fun you guys were having on the trail and how welcoming the group was. Kayak fishing has since become a major obsession and part of my existance over the last 2 years, no joke. Thanks for your efforts on the content, being a local diplomat to the sport and your humble perspectives. See you on the water this spring!

    👋😄 Thanks for the encouragement. I don't have a fishing kayak, will still participate in many TAKAL touneys (hopefully), but maybe in 2 yrs I can get a 'real' fishing kayak. Random question: Do you have an anchor?

    • @GirlGoneFishing
      @GirlGoneFishing  9 месяцев назад +1

      I used to use one of those big clamps on a rope that you clip onto something like a bush or a tree to anchor... I did that until I realized spiders were getting in my kayak from the trees and that's a big NO for me. So now I have one of those little folding anchors on a rope and I also have an old window weight on a rope, but I rarely use them. I used to use the window weight more in my paddle kayak to stay in place but with my Lynx I prefer to hold in place with my pedals. But then I experienced East Harbor winds that will wear your legs out if you try to pedal in place, so I tried using the window weight to anchor but it is just a cylinder-shaped thing and it just dragged freely on the bottom there. So I bought that anchor shaped anchor that would open up and dig into the ground, but it is still not ideal because when you anchor you end up with your back to the wind which means you are casting with the wind current instead of into the current so you can retrieve your lure the correct direction. But sometimes you just need to stay in one place, this is what I would use (on a rope): amzn.to/3Hk6DIL

      Ok. I'm on the right track with an anchor, my hubby bought me the kind you showed from Amazon for my birthday. 😄Thanks!

      BKFT seems to have dropped off the map, so a few guys started Ohio Kayak Fishing which will be a trail basically like BKFT and taking over the Bassmaster qualifying tournaments. So I'll be fishing CKF and OKF in 2024. ohiokayakfishing.com/
