All the sponsors you have had, wondering why you don't keep using their products?? Is it because they don't pay you anymore?? Free food and some kind of energy shit and you only use it for a few weeks. Your grocery bill must be pretty low for all the free stuff. Poor bastard!!
I found your channel because I love learning about farming and all the machinery. Now I find myself fascinated by the people. The relationship between you and your dad, how you have mentored Onyx into bigger and bigger responsibilities, how your community rallies when someone is in need, how you work tirelessly but also cut away for family and fun. I tip my hat to you and yours.
The joys of farming with your father. Wait 20 minutes for him to show up so he can make the decision just for him to tell you to do what you were already going to do/already doing. Most frustrating days of my farming career but I miss it more than anything. You’ll always miss the sound of his tires hitting the driveway. It’s a sound I can never forget
@@MillennialFarmer ohhhhh yeah😂. When you said “I think they need air but dad wants to look at them first so we’ll wait until he gets here” I had flashbacks
We had several years in a row where we couldn't get the beans to clean up like that. We ended up installing a grain screen at our bin site to clean out the extra pods and leaves.
I don't comment on these videos too often because most of my comments are sharing where I think RUclipsrs could improve their channel. That's not this comment. Zach, I literally have nothing bad to say about your channel, nothing I even slightly dislike, nothing to change. I think at this point it's safe to say you are truly my favorite RUclipsr. Love the content, the humor, the dogs.... Everything! Keep up the great work bother!
Same problem. Irrigated beans had 10 green pods per plant and 100 Lima beans. Popcorn is 22-24 depending on variety. Irrigated corn is 17 hand shelled.
I've noticed that the apples and pears that are definitely 100% ripe and ready, are also still pulling twigs and leaves with them. I think it's just a weird year, the 'fruit' is ready early but the plant hasn't had the extra week or couple weeks to back off a bit.
Many years ago when I first bought a used combine with no experience or advice I quickly figured out that if you could not keep a consistent amount of crop going through the machine then your settings (cylinder speed, concave gap, fan speed, sieves) were subject to great variability and it was nearly impossible to achieve what you are looking for, any change in the crop stand, ground speed, temperature or even the wind speed will change everything so don't worry about it just get it close and get it done. You will lose a lot more if a windstorm comes along than you will out the back of that combine, just my thoughts......carry on.
The farm I work on, west of the Red River in North Dakota, started dedicating the beans last year and it really makes things even. The weeds and everything flows right though. Fastest bean harvest ever this year. I've
I started watching your videos during the lockdowns in 2020. This’ll be the 4th harvest I’ve watched with you all. Always look forward to seeing your videos year round. I’ve probably watched every one since 2020 lol.
I love watching all it takes to gather simple small things like soybeans and corn. Spend $1000’s in fuel minimum. Maintenance like oil, oil filters, gas filters and replacing teeth on the machines. Zach I also love y’all’s family bond. It’s great to see. 3generations out together. Couldn’t ask for more. Ur son is amazing and so is ur dad. This channel definitely is top 5 in my opinion on RUclips. Thanks for making these videos for us. That’s a full time job too.
Zach, a lot of the other Tubers are complaining that they are also having issues with pods and what looks like sporadic patches of green that don't appear to be drying down. They are seeing beans in the 8-10% moisture content range. When the beans are lighter than the pods, well, you're feeding the deer this fall and winter. I blame the new hybrids.
It’s amazing that your son has grown so much, him driving the vehicles, the semi even aged him 5-8 years older. Last season him using the combines, the cart. It seam so cute he was driving them, being young. Now he’s a Junior in college now. College of Farming.
How many full loads from the Combine does it take to fill a Grain cart? How many full loads from the grain cart does it take to fill the tractor trailer?
Videos like these make me appreciate farmers even more. It seems very tedious at times but rewarding at others. But I'm a tornado researcher, so who knows lol! Keep doing what you are doing, love the content!
i remember my farming days, we took the wheat to the public elevator, so our moisture couldnt be above 11% and i remember praying for a wind to dry it out so we could start harvesting
@@BrettGuffeyAnd when they get it wrong they sit down as a group and try to figure out why it didn't work. The models they used before aren't applicable anymore due to climate change
If the crop isn't fit you can't make a sample as the beans will stick to the green material and go out the back with it and it doesn't matter which colour the combine is. I watch a lot of American farming videos and have often wondered why nobody has a grain cleaner before it goes into the bin, would remove some of the pods but would definetly remove all the fines from the corn which seem to cause so many storage issues. Just curious!
TOP TIP: put a roof and a bit of weather protection around that lovely new drier, and it will stay lovely for a whole load longer. (little tip i got from brian brown just a few days ago !! )
As an American, it is so fulfilling to see the incredibly strong farming community, he we see 3-generations of Johnson farmers -- Dad-Zack-Onyx, It is wonderful seeing learning flowing back-N-forth between the generations.
During my apprenticeship the mechanic that taught me combines always said that combines are collectors not cleaners which is true in a way especially if you run John Donkeys.
Thanks for the video very much. It was I have to say very interesting and ok to view. When the combine and the crop in the field can’t seem to work together it can be very frustrating and quite maddening to be honest. I have myself been there done that myself. Soybeans are twice as aggravating as corn believe you me. Do understand Zach. Believe a big part of it is the green stems yet. Another part is what you said, just run the darn combine and stop checking all the time. Sometimes you just have to trust the machine. You had the dealer look at it, enough is enough. Just run the darn machine and trust!!!!!!!!!!!!!! About it I guess. Short day. Take care. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
I have a question for farmers. In western ND farmers have had crop loses by a vehicle running through the field, a vehicle running through the field and starting a fire, fields lost to wildfires and parts of fields lost because they had to disk under some to keep the fire from spreading. Does crop insurance cover disasters like those?
I know you just switched to a new concave this year we run the kondex concave and have good luck… we fight nothing but green stem and pods on dry beans.. I have had luck with 12-18 clearance and 560-600 speed fan 1100… I don’t know if your deep tooth or GP we have one with each I run the deep tooth machine and at some times I’ll run the bottom dang near on 0 to re-thrash more… 1 on deep is still huge for soybeans… good luck stay safe love all the videos
Times like thees, I like that we don't own a combine. It's our problem, while not our problem at the same time. Plus the place where we haul our crop will take 4-5% as "trash" anyway.
Are your concaves round bar or square? We found that running the round bar concaves when the beans were a little green we have less grain loss than dryer beans, don't ask what the difference is, I just know we have better results. Great video and hopefully you'll get it figured out
Could you explain the rational for how y'all load the trucks w/ product? 'Why do you skip to the front of the first hopper when moving from the rear to the front???'
You can never check behind the harvester too much, I have a friend that hired a corn field cut. When the guy was cutting the corn, he never looked behind the combine and when a fall rain came through it was solid corn about 6 inches tall and you couldn’t see no rows or nothing😂😂
To all you awesome you tube guys.... let's face... harvest is cool... doesn't much matter what crop it is... thanks for all the memories you bring back.
Just wondering if you guys worry about your gps when leaving machinery in the field. Here in the uk we have a big problem with thefts. Where I work had $52000 worth of gps equipment stolen this summer
Curious if you got the combines linked up knowing where you have been with the 2 different size headers? You talked about it couple videos back. Thanks for these videos!! I eagerly await the next one! Be safe you guys!!
I really enjoy watching your videos Zach. I have learned a lot about what life is like on a farm. Some tough work with long days. You have some very nice equipment also. Nothing runs like a Deere. It suxs being a Gopher though 😂. Coming to you from the Buckeye State. GO BUCKS
Not gonna lie, looking at those straight pipes reminded me of a time when my grandfather said "We need to build a step bridge across those pipes before someone decides to step on them to get across." I don't know how often you need to get across those pipes... and maybe those pipes are tougher than the ones we had... They just look like something that could get crushed if someone tries to step on them.

If you still have the JD round bar concaves buy the inserts that go into the first row of concaves. They help thresh the hard to trash pods.
