Love the car pulling out to the right whilst indicating left (0.30). At least he was indicating something - that makes him a better driver than most drivers today!
What a brilliant video, I live on mile end rd, I'm 25, strange to see no roundabout at all going past what is now wickes approaching the north station bridge, wish it was like it now all nice fields about still no eye sore houses, what a great video thank you.
I lived there in the 90s I lived in one of the nhs houses on Mill Rd Front and long rear garden, grass cut by nhs staff regularly. Had a lovely girlfriend who worked at Severalls, psych nurse. They had a cheap social cub and lots of sports pitches. Turner Village ditto. Both employed a lot of local people with pension benefits too. All sold off now. Lexden Rd Guntons Frank Wright butchers The Kings Arms Essex County Hospital Arms Brilliant days.
Very interesting video, thanks for posting it up. Lexden Road hasn't really changed much in 26 years, apart from having a lot less trees now following the hurricane in 1987. And St Marys is relatively unchanged apart from the loss of the old workhouse/hospital.
That's the legendary "Touch Me" by Sam Fox playing on the radio as you stand in front of the car. It was released as a single roughly a month before this clip was shot and the actual album it came from wasn't released until July 1986.
Yes I think it must have been , if you look at my 1987 video shot from the top of Jumbo y0u can see it 4.45 minutes in.ruclips.net/video/s17WpTsl0Vs/видео.html
Similar but different question - is The Hole In The Wall pub still there at the top of Balkerne Hill? I studied in Colchester doing A levels and degree from 85-91, and lived there from about 88-92. The Hole, The Marquis of Grandby and The Bull were favourite drinking spots. The latter was on Head St, and my friend worked in the cinema and got us freebies. The it was off to the pub, followed by a kebab!
The world was a much more relaxed place then and more chilled. Now the world is way too fast paced and everyone pushing you when you are maybe in no rush yourself
Couldn't agree more. More common sense so we didn't need so much health and safety etc. No smart phones and computers for instant information. In my job if I needed to phone the office I had to find a phone box that was working!
They have all been done in 2012. The updated version of this one is ruclips.net/video/crVHnR5Wg5Q/видео.htmllist= or you can go to my site TheWurn2 where they are all listed. Thanks for watching.

another great post, thank you,are you still in colchester by any chance ?
Is the car park there yet on balkerne Hill in 1986 as he came off the roundabout??

Wow, north station is so different!
The live versions are even rarer now!
I'd forgotten about the Colchester "Hedgehogs" graffiti !!! they used to be everywhere !
Interesting to see the empty fields along Mill Road and on outskirts of Severalls industrial estate. Now it is wall-to-wall housing.
The biggest change of all I think and North Station underpass was too small then.
Almost a country drive in those days!
Funny to see the old Royal London sports centre and to not have the severals business park roundabout and sign.
Bet it's not still on the road! I have had a couple of comments from people recognising cars. It's like having your own time machine.

North station is almost unrecognisable now!

@bazookajobelix How true! My favourite gripe on the road.
i think you should do more videos of the same routes buy how they are today :D
Who knows, but the real thing was common then, heading for extinction now!
@abbthemad Very close yes.
