- It's been a while since I did a Kukri knife review so a big thanks toe ESSE Knives for sending me this Jaraca kukri from their EXPAT line of knives. I put it through some pretty intense abuse in the Balance Orientation And Rotation Device testing but it "stuck" it out.

Thanks for watching Survival On Purpose.
Your wife must be very happy every time you get a new knife. All that yard work gets done and new firewood gets chopped up.
Sharp Saturday was the first show. I started watching on RUclips, and it’s still my favorite. Keep it up! 0:56
I appreciate that.
Happy Sharp Saturday Brian , thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Great knife, as usual bryan! Put some nice petina on that one!
Lifetime warranty so no worries!
Great show. You are always funny. Thank you.
I have that kukri and like it but my only kinda complaint is that I prefer.the kukris that kinda have what amounts to multi grind or at least multi angles like the condor heavy-duty kukri .on the esee the thickness behind the edge is thicker closer to the handle since the flat grind has less room to tapper out than the wider front. To me.its opposite to what it should be . I'm sure for cost reasons . This one is great for chopping and machete tasks but if you want a one tool option get the condor. Condor is better at the fine close up carving because the closer to the handle its less convexex so the angle is steeper while out front its more convex almost axe like. That being said most knife nuts like myself aren't taking just a kukri so does it really matter? Up to you.
Agreed that it's good to have a nice lean grind next to the bolster for carving. However this area is also a lot thicker on traditional khukuris also. I think it's important to reinforce the blade at the tang transition here so that it can stand up to heavy chopping. Having a narrow blade here helps to get the right angle to the recurved portion for chopping.
Always love your videos
Nice! We've always been a fan of the Ontario khukuris- one of the better value options for cheap western kukris. It has a lot more traditional features than a lot of other blades on the market. It's interesting to see the same pattern getting produced by another company with a few changes. Not going easy with it with those throws either!
U had me at kukri
Nice I like it
Wow i like that!
Me too
Nice knife. Great video. Thanks.
Excellent review! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love a Kukri. Great review. 😊
Nice heavy kukri Bryan, I would prefer it having a hard rubber or Crayton over molded handle thou.......great video!
Im not sure you want to do some of that Kukri stuff. The Royal Nepalese Gurkas employed this as a combat weapon. The preferred method for using the Kukri was to strike the enemy on top of the head like you were splitting a log.
The Gurkas also chopped down on the feet of a enemy as well as wrist arms or legs
Nice
Very good video Brian. Try to a video on the Kerschaw camp 10.
Please Bryan make a playlist with all your Chuck Norris quotes🙏👍❤️
It’s a boomerang knife.
Looks like a take on the Ontario Kukri.
Condor's 1075, at least in my experience, is super soft and loses its edge very quickly. I really wish ESEE would have produced these themselves in 1095. I gotta pass in its current state. Bummer too cause I'm a sucker for curvy blades! Great video as always Brian!
Personally i prefer my kukris to have traditional handles & construction but it's still a pretty nice knife.
Looks more like a boomarang 😮😅 spartan harsey kukri is bad maamma jamma though!! Nice video though friend
There's a reason traditional khukuri have chirra and a convex grind.
U Didn't Tell Us, Iridium242 Passed Away.
Condolences To The Family.
Very nice brother ❤
I think you need to Sharpen that Kukri Brian .....
I won't knock it too hard based on the link chopping because you text with the factory edge and I have gotten a couple of Esee's that performed badly until I put a real edge on them. But... That was a lot of chopping for such small limbs.
Pardon my had spelling. I am on my phone in a moving vehicle.
Well, the limbs were tough but it was probably a case of "it's not the arrow, it's the Indian"
If I remember correctly, Condor produces those for Esee. Why on earth would they use that terrible handle design from Ontario? I dont think using wood will change the way it digs into your pinky finger just like the ontarios did, fix the handle design and use micarta while keeping the same price, and maybe I would get one. I'm not saying they should reinvent the wheel, but why copy a horrible handle design when it can easily be made better. It's a pass for me in its current state, and im sure many others would agree. 🤷 Thanks for showing!
Different strokes...
@@SurvivalOnPurpose that's for sure lol
I have the old Ontario Kukri in 1095 , I bought it for about $55.00 it think it was a while ago , but your right that little birds beak on the end of that rubber handle will fricken rub your pinky off 😂 , I just cut it right off mine and smoothed it over and its a Lot Better.... I wouldn't pay $110.00 for it with 1075 and a wood handle , you think Esee would have made a Better Handle Design for it , especially since it Most Likely their Design anyway and I'm sure they heard all the complaints ...... 👍🖖
@brianf9619 lol you know they did and it works but it's not the best design in my opinion...which isn't worth anything 🤣
Looks like you almost pulled a Joe X on that knife!
My Family have 150+ years old War Kukri . & There is 14 scars on it . (You know What its mean )
We workship that kukri on festival with blood .
Very cool.
Nice video. I still think you should make a Chuck norris facts video.
That would be a little like eating the whole box of candy at once. :)
@@SurvivalOnPurpose so true.
Walnut handle. No wood handles on knives for me.
Walnut cracks to easy.
Had a wooden handle cracking doing some light chopping.
Never again.
Love Esee but this design is a big no for me. Maybe with a better handle sure. Also wish it was with 1095 and Rowen heat treat and not produced by Condor
I have this and the handle is pretty uncomfortable. Probably woulda been better off with Ontario version with the rubberized handles. Once I took a file to it its OK. But it's cooler looking than it is a functional kukri. More of a thick kukri shaper machete in my opinion but it's OK no huge complaints.
I have a 15 year old Ontario Kukri-looks EXACTLY THE SAME. maybe same designer?
I think it's the exact same pattern- just being sold with a different handle material by a different company
you should have sharpened that thing
A large knife, but not a true Kukri- no blade notch, incorrect handle, incorrect pommel, non-leather sheathe w/no small knives or tinder pouch. A wide variety of true kukri- made in Nepal and India are available on Amazon for less than 100 US.
This knife would get a thums down from me. It was not good at anything.
Do you know Chuck Norris passed away in 2023 on
Nov 4th
no
I humbly apologize for giving you the bad news sir both of us are fans of his and always will be
He’s not dead. Don’t believe everything you see on RUclips.
It wasn't 9n RUclips try the internet celebrities who passed away in the past year
Chuck Norris is alive and well.
thats a no from me dawg
Not my cup of tea ! The fact that it comes pretty dull is an off-putting, especially for the price .
Looks to be not that sharp right out of the box.
Not very good no big deal
Knife testing is a joke. Just about every knife survives the tests and most testing constitutes abuse of the tool. Batonning should be avoided unless some unlikely situation presents itself ( being stuck somewhere with no rotting deadfall yo gather and bust up for fire and no way to whittle a splitting wedge from wood. ). Throwing your knife is certainly not sensible. Trying to break the point off proves....what ? Nothing.
Even if we leave Joe-X out of this, knife testing videos are unrealistic.
I expect soon to see heat resistance tested with an acetylene cutting torch and rust-resistance tested by dipping the knife in salt water and leaving it outside for a month.
If you want rugged, choose a knife with quarter-inch thick blade and be done with it. And boycott China !
You can buy three cold steel Royal Kukris for the price of that one and they are much bigger and better in my opinion
Don't tell anyone but it needs to be sharpened
Looks like a big NO to me. Especially, I can't even find it on the website.
