  • Over the weekend, Rampage Poker backed out of the highly anticipated $1 Million dollar cash game and in the process (to my surprise), even called me out and BLOCKED me on Twitter for my most recent video on the entire situation.

Alex, am really liking you and your videos!! And, as for Rampage, So many of these poker vloggers are losing their grip as they seem to be caught up in an on-going train wreck all in the name of high stakes , "fearless" action poker and maybe getting more views . Do think HCL, and even The Lodge, and all their glitz and wacky kind of poker glamour, a sure way to one day hit bottom.. Find the amounts of money they are willing to put on the line and just punt away not almost , but just plain disgusting. And worse, why the hell would anyone back this shit. But am confessing on the streams, entertaining to watch when am bored.

My big problem as a long time watcher of Rampage is that he got too big for his britches. His interview with Nick Vertucci after he lost a huge amount was the big turning point for me.
In that interview he basically admits he started the poker vlog for content, not for poker and that he finds smaller stakes poker boring. Admits he can't afford to play the big games but refuses to move back to the smaller stakes.
He built his reputation on punting and whilst fans actually want to see him do proper bankroll management, he can't get that in his head.
Fans would be happy to see him take the dive back into some smaller stakes games. Hell, Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen are constantly moving up and down the stake levels.

Selling action is a good idea, but buying action is an investment, so If I want to buy a piece from someone stake, I will do it with one thing in mind, how good is that player is? because at the end, I am investing, and for Rampage, I can say that its a high risk investment, and that goes for all the youtube poker stars in my opinion. But, if its Garette, Negranu, Ivey, ...etc that want to sell, I will consider it as a low risk investment, and your chances to win money is so much high than with Rampage and others, as those player are the best in the game.
I'll be honnest, I like to watch him play, but i think he is an average player, and there is 0% chance I invest money regarding his skills.

I like watching Rampage, and I am among those who "gave him hate," although I would consider it less than hate, for that video. I get selling action, but that video just came across as sooo tone deaf to his audience. Here we are, or I am, watching him from a shitty basement apartment as he's saying I need a Million dollars while strolling the Sydney waterfront. wtf!?

"I didn't explain it well for the average joe" is such an entitled thing to say and borderline insulting the intelligence of your audience. Buying pieces/backing/staking is not a complicated subject to people in the poker world, which is what Rampage's audience is mostly comprised of.
Also, shout out for calling Rampage out on his hypocrisy. He 100% leans into his out 'Rampunt' stereotype for content.

Has anyone considered that "investing" into a poker player could easily lead to the next scandal? Imagine a guy raising a million and then behind the scenes he and another guy agree to chip dump all the money from people wanting a sweat and they split it 500k each. To me it seems way too easy to pull off.

kind of but not really, essentially it lets you play these high stakes games at the level of play you are capable of. Poker you cannot look at your chips as profit/loss as is on the table (everyone does but you shouldn't) because then it affects how you play. the "I'm up for the day do I really want to risk it at this point?" of slots/blackjack or any gambling. By staking it not only minimizes one bad game destroying your bankroll but also lets you shunt some of that off. It let's you make clearer decisions closer to GTO. Better for the players and action by minimizing emotional attachment to hands/plays/chips.

Rampage plays for 250k or, RAMPAGE 1 MILLION DOLLARS ON THE FELT!!! hustler and the other streaming services like the lodge run off how many viewers. They will go with what their media specialist says. Of course staking happens in tournaments and other cash games but that isn't too unusual its gambling. Instead of betting on yourself you bet on the pro.

I do kinda have to put this in the troll category. Especially since 1) you said yourself and know and agree that most high stakes players sell action in big big games (sorry you cant play in those games) and 2) most high stakes poker players don't have 300k subs to ask for backing - - regardless the amount (sorry you only have 17.k subs). Baby Doug polk stuff here for sure. Nothing wrong with keeping to his formula that works. #coattails

I actually find the poker community really annoying, as everyone loves to pile on people and hate on anything they're not capable of doing... in this case playing high stakes poker. A bunch of haters are just stuck in 5NL or 1/2 and like to be angry at anyone else playing higher than them.
THAT SAID ... If you're going to play at the highest stakes and biggest games, you gotta deal with all the attention that comes with it. Good and bad.
