Excellent video. Thanks so much for sharing. Followed your instructions and installed my GWR SQTT in about 30 mins yesterday. Hardest part was getting the bolt off the stock muffler. Not overtightening the bolts is really key. Too much tension on the springs and the whole thing resonates way too much. Done right, finished product sounds amazing. Header next?
Awesome, glad it was helpful! Yeah it's pretty straightforward other than the flange bolts.
No header or any other exhaust plans right now but will be addressing other areas.
Thanks for the video, one of the best ones I’ve seen with very clear shots of each step of the install! Excited to tackle it myself once my GWR SSST ships.
No problem! An exhaust upgrade is the gift that keeps on giving! Let me know if you run into any issues.
Installed this on mine and even with a catless dump, sounds amazing without too much noise.
Yeah it’s just the right amount. 👍
Thanks, great video and great to hear there's no drone.
Thanks! Yeah, this is an all around winner. 👍
Those ramps scared the hell out of me. :) Cool tool btw.
What's wrong with ramps? Bad experience with the 930?
@@Kianski lol..when I see ramps move like that across the floor, I get 'nervous'. Some have said however that I am a little 'finicky' on how I think about stuff.
@@Kianski And there is no chance in hell I could modulate the clutch in the 930 to put it up on ramps. :)
Nice job with the install (and I might have to borrow those pliers!), but that sound reminds me of the "fart cans" the kids installed on their Civics in the 90's.
Whaaaa...no way José! No 4-banger sounds amazing but this isn't like those fart cans...those are just loud. You'll like it when you drive it with your head sticking above the windshield.
Nice video, thanks for sharing.
1. Any reason why you chose the single vs twin tip?
2. What are your next mods?
The single tip has a slightly higher pitch and sounds more "exotic" according to Goodwin and figured it would sound better because of that. I don't really trust a lot of sound comparison videos as they're mostly recorded with just the GoPro mic (or even worse, with a cell phone) so I went with Goodwin's impression more than customer videos. I have a separate Rode mic that I use to get a much more accurate sound. The twin does look more modern but the single looks more old school in my opinion.
I have suspension mods in mind but not sure how deep I wanna go in that rabbit hole. :) I already did one one mod and that'll be the next video I'll post in a couple weeks.
@@Kianski Awesome, thanks for that explanation. Some of GWRs product descriptions seem copy and pasted so I didn't feel confident about those either.
I've had my ND1 for 2 months now and resisting the modding rabbit hole too...such a slippery slope! 💸
Hi Kianski, do you put a corresponding GWR 4-2-1 SQ header as Brian Goodwin wrote in his product page (that SQ single tip with a 3.5" resonator is designed to work with SQ header)?
I did not. Just wanted a little more noise so I just replaced the muffler.
Hi, did you weight this GWR Super-Q muffler before installing? Thanks
I didn't but it was much lighter than the sock muffler.
would you be able to tell me if this exhaust leaves enough room to install a hitch on the miata?
Not something I've considered but the muffler is smaller than the stock one, so there should be more room.
Any exhaust leak that you can feel? “Puff puff puff”?
A small one but not enough to make me want to loosen it and reposition the donut gasket. I re-used the existing one since it wasn't that old.
Actually I haven't checked recently so the gasket may have seated properly now.
How's it sound in cabin on the highway? Really concerned about drone and volume at cruising speed. Leaning toward the HKS for that reason. But I want the thing to bark when I'm pushing it in lower gears. HKS seems a tad too quiet.
Thanks for the video btw.
I personally can't stand any drone and happy to report this doesn't have any on the highway. At cruising speed in 6th, you'll hear a lot more wind noise than the exhaust. With the top down during spirited driving, it's loud enough to enjoy it but it doesn't doesn't bark, no cracks or pops, etc. So if you want something more on the aggressive side, I'd recommend a different version.
Could the exhaust hangers have stayed on the car or is it easier to just take them off completely?
Definitely easier if you take them off completely. Not too difficult with the pliers.
@@Kianski need first spray them with a mix of water and dishwasher soap.
@@hagaxxx correct, I did that at the 1:49 mark.
Weightloss!
What brand, model, height car ramp are you using? Where to purchase?
Those were the 8.5” high plastic Rhino Ramps. Available from Home Depot or auto parts stores as they’re fairly common. I now have 8” high Race Ramps that are made of foam and much nicer, but a lot more expensive too.
What is the weight on the new exhaust?
Didn’t measure it but I’d guess ~15 lbs
Split wipe transitions?! Come-on the people want star wipes for their transitions...listen to the people!!!!
Do they though? Do they really?
I personally prefer the spinning swirl transition
