  • Content Warning: Suicide
In this episode, Dan wants to talk about a topic that is frequently intertwined with addiction, so much so that he sees it consistently in his mental health group and receives DMs about it daily: suicide in men. He is joined by John Connelly who talks about his own experience of almost taking his own life, what led him to that decision and what they both agree needs to change.

Menace II Sobriety Live brings the up & coming podcast to the live stage; hosted by Daniel O'Reilly and a special guest, no topic is off-limits. Combining humour with stories and issues which both Daniel and the audience will have experienced, whether first hand or through someone they know. Offering an environment for people to openly discuss their struggles was Daniel's main focus behind starting the podcast, as well as his M.A.T.E group; so now he also brings it to the stage and to the public.
What can people expect at the live podcast:
Join Daniel at Menace II Sobriety Live, as he discusses all things sobriety, ADHD, mental health and more. The podcastwill be recorded live with a special guest, including audience interaction and finishing with an open Q&A.
Daniel will not only be discussing sobriety, but everything life throws at us, and he would love for you to join him. Bring your tissues and your sense of humour, because we have no idea what topics will be discussed, but whatever the conversation, it'll be a supportive environment and may contain some dad jokes.
    Story behind the podcast:
The Menace II Sobriety podcast was set up after Daniel faced his own battles with sobriety, ADHD, mental health and certain life scenarios. He set up a M.A.T.E group on Facebook, so that men could support men in an accessible, open and friendly environment. Upon seeing the responses from men around the world to some of the posts on the group, Daniel was blown away by the kindness and support of strangers. This led him to create the podcast, inviting a range of guests from different backgrounds, sharing his own personal experiences & struggles; and now, opening up to the public in a live environment, where people can come along and watch in-person, or get involved in the audience interaction.

I think what a lot of people don’t understand about childhood trauma is that your not blaming your parents for being bad parents or not doing enough or mistreating you ect anything can set these programs into action as an adult from something that happened in childhood it’s like when you touch something hot you learn not to touch hot things .. it’s the same prospect your parent could have promised to come to your school play and it was sooooo important to you as a kid and they got stuck at work and that caused a trust issue in the future not saying it’s there fault life is life and you can’t do it all but a child brain doesn’t rationalise or process the way an adults does it’s nobody’s fault but picking it apart and finding out why you have these programs as an adult can help you to work through and heal from it 💚

He is a brave man and a real man. It takes a warrior to open yourself up like that to so many people. His family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knows him must be so proud of him, I am; and have never met him. God bless you, sir, as well as your family, friends, and those around you. Love and respect from me, my brother. Kind regards

Remember seeing this guys TikTok so amazing to hear his story and get a sense of what got him to the place he was and see how far he’s come I know what he means about “not having anything to be depressed about” it’s so strange when people ask and you literally can’t explain it yourself so how can I explain it to you 😅 .. I feel like when he was saying he had all the nice things and he was doing well for himself but felt nothing maybe it’s less to do with material richness and more to do with inner richness having a sense of purpose being fulfilled in your relationships and doing things that make you feel happy even if it’s not what your “supposed” to be doing massive love to these two guys love that dans got his group for the guys definitely an amazing space for men to seek advice and just get things off there chest in a place they feel they can be vulnerable 💚

You know I relate not so much on the suicidal part but I do in a lot of other ways. The emptiness is a killer. It’s crazy how you do always look for something to always make you happy wether is substances or buying material possessions. But like I’ve got from this podcast is you have to find the happiness from within. No saying it’s a easy thing but that is what has to be done. I hope one day I do find the happiness from within

Can relate to nearly all of that podcast , "its scary how lonely you feel , but you also want to feel lonely" in my experience at my worst I just wanted the day done so I could be on my own and think about suicide and how others reactions would be. It's hard to explain or understand unless you've been there. Not a fan of tiktok fb Instagram etc but fair play if your helping others John, all the best from the highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

The character comedy you do with the filters is really good, you should rock up to the ITV studios, turtleneck & the McLaren Pfu & just request a meeting, maybe pitch a wholesome concept such as what your doing now. Hopefully they'll offer you a deal & you can say please, i only deal with reputable media outlets now. Fuck em
