Didn't think I could love this guy more than I already do, but there he is, talking so honest with us about himself and his thoughts. Thanks Gigi.
"If you always seek external solutions to your internal problems, you will never be able to really solve them and you will never be able to judge yourself and value yourself for what you're worth, you'll always be looking for external help, alibis, excuses. Instead, life must be lived according to your limits and your virtues."
My Idol obviously. when I was young.. This man was #1 Goalkeeper in the World..
Such an intelligent and well-spoken guy for a footballer. Should be a motivational speaker.
I keep coming back to this .
One of the greatest goalkeepers
One of the greatest Italian footballers
One of the greatest human beings to play the game.
"if you always seek external solutions to your internal problems, you will never be able to really solve them"
This is a very true and spiritual principle that he talks about.. Cool and inspiring to see!
But depression can be attributed to a chemical imbalance.
Depression can't be solved by thought alone
@@66kaisersoza I never implied that it could be solved by thought alone. But I do think we underrestimate the power of thought and intentions. Either way yes ofcourse there's a chemical inbalance but most of the time this really isnt the case.
I’m watching this as Italian practice as he has such a lovely clean and clear accent
Me too. I was
True, and his talk is really articulate
He is from Toscana. A region in Italy where they say the Italian language has its roots... That's why he speaks clear italian
@@Tuxedosnake00 true about Tuscan being at the root of Italian language but Buffon’s accent is not typically Tuscan. His accent has features closer to Northern Italian varieties (called gallo-italic) typical of his birthplace (Carrara): geographically Tuscany but linguistically not
Oh, no, no, no! He sounds SO Northern Italian ! Nothing "Tuscan" about him ! I assume nobody here is Italian...
This is a kind of man that when you see him, there is some deep vibe..
Dear Gigi, your message to hope is wonderful. The mind is important like the body, but sometimes the depression is an enemy very strong to kill.Sometimes the medicines are necessary unfortunately.
He wasn’t sick or depressed. He was just bored to do the same thing every goddamn day, that’s it.
@@RSteam87 how do you know that? you are his gf or what? lol kid
@XZSANTOXSZ 'many of them are caused by genetics and chemical disorders'. This may be true but for the most time depression is caused by situatiational factors and mostly nurtured. To treat these factors, medication is NOT THE SOLUTION.
Like Buffon said: 'you have to look internally to find what has bothering you'!
@@lucaaz14 But even in those cases medicine is sometimes needed not make the patient able to overcome their struggles when they are to deep in the depression. And the treatment of depression is very difficult because no depression is the same.
@@milliecookie8539 I completely agree with Lucas here. Medication should be taken with a lot of care. Everyone can react differently to certain substances, and unfortunately I have witnessed two cases in my family where medication made things worse. In some cases medication definitely helps, but in my experience a lot of psychiatrist nowadays prescribe pharmaceuticals way too often, just because it is a lot easier for them than trying to find potential causes of the issue and suggest personal, non-pharmaceutical treatment. Another thing that might play its role in this is that drug companies make a lot of profit selling those pharmaceuticals ...
Grazie mile Gigi. Molto buono ti ascoltare.
This interview is pure "ART"
A legend ❤
how does a man's leg start to shake from depression and not when he's playing in front of the entire world in the world cup final?
depression is just something else man
True, great comment.
He did’t play at that time ..
I went through the same thing. It is truly terrifying to the point I went to the ER for them to kick me out and say you are perfectly fine.
@@rinolino7246 of course he became WC with Italy in 2006
I have been suffering from illness for 11 months now and I also got out of bed and felt my legs shaking before like Buffon said. I really appreciate this. I know that the mind and body are one and not separate I need to change my actions and internal patterns. I love you Buffon thank you ❤
Grazie Gigi per questa intervista
why the hell does this video only so little views?
Living legend! 41 years old and still one of the best!
And humble man... But to be honest. When you have money, you will make it.
The year after he suffered from depression he went to win the World Cup thanks to his saves Italy was crowned champions
first Goal kipper in history to arrive 2nd in ballon D’or list !!! during that tournament his eyes were like he was on another dimension…
He turned depression into Greatness
Un commento di sotto: "one of the greatest sportsman ever, now he maturated to something much greater". Ecco cosa c'entra ao
What a human being. I remember him rushing to congratulate Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane for the Republic of Ireland's victory over his own country at Euro 2016. That’s a class guy. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪
What a humble guy! Depression is a human epidemic that, thankfully, isn't regarded as taboo to discuss. I battled with it for years and it's encouraging that people who are at the top of their game also struggle with this debilitating condition
Very impressed! A big man doing the right descisions. Makes me proud of this fighter ♡
I wish I could shake his hand one day. He is a living legend making football a great passion. What we watch today is business with no place for happiness. Gigi, you are great! Thank you for being a part of my childhood.
"I must prove to myself that I deserve the gift of life" Wow, that's profound. Was not able to get over my depression without medication despite all the therapies in the world. But that phrase speaks volume to me.
This is the most organic and practical video about mental health anyone has ver talked about. And it happened to be coming out of the mouth of the greatest goalkeeper of my generation
One of the best interviews I have ever watched. Respect 🙌
My favorite sportman is you Gigi and Rafael Nadal.
No one else can express so much will in their sports.
That’s why you are a LEGEND
Italian players are all bloody philosophers. Love it
I've watched him play over more than 15 years as goalkeeper. Never seen him in this light before though. Respect to this man and his vision.
Grazie Signore. Your sincerity, generosity and sensitivity are an example. And so is your career.
Profound words from a legend. Depression seems to manifest differently in some but so similar too. He is right that it is something that can and should be talked about, nothing to hide or be ashamed of. Find those “tools” as he put it, that do help. I’ve suffered for years with it and my heart goes out to anyone else going through it and those around us that it can effect too.
Every word of Gigi makes sense. This should be a must-watch video for college students, athletes, and literally everyone.
Wow, Gigi, you amazed me. I have been your fan throughout my life. I never thought a massively accomplished person like you go through depression. I applaud you for opening up and sharing your internal struggle with brilliant narration. Simply put, my respect for you has gone through the roof.
Before watching this video.. I knew from his eyes that he was deep, creative and having some arts in his spirit… Buffon was my favorite soccer player, whenever I see him I feel some energy
I like how he's able to express himself so elegantly, just wow
Gigi is such a gentle soul and a very intelligent and deep man. I’m so glad he was able to escape the entrapment of depression on his own merits and without the aid of pharmaceuticals. You are the greatest goalkeeper I’ve ever seen, and a far better human being. Keep fighting day by day and may God bless you amico!
Words fail to describe how powerful this is. Thank you Buffon.
Love this man's honesty. Depression is a terrible illness and can be debilitating for most. The fact that he went on to be one of the best goalkeepers ever, in a pressure cooker environment, says everything about the man.
How can there be people dissliking this interview. Grande Gigi!
Ive got more from 11 minutes listening to Buffon articulate this so beautifully than years of therapy, books, happy pills and self indulgence. Just wish I could have watched it 5 years ago an saved myself a lot of money
Praying for this men that he gets saved and finds real peace.
Really a down to earth person with a humble heart.. how precious is that !
god bless him :)
Legend. His words are golden. He is not only a GREAT sportmen but a GREAT intellect.
Thank you Gigi! I didn't know you suffered from depression. I too suffer from depression. You and Juventus have given me joy and comfort because I know you and Juve never let me down! God bless you Gigi!
Letterly melt my heart, so much humanity for a world cup champion
He’s so impressive. Sensitive, well spoken and enlightening.
Por algo es un grande. En el futbol y en la vida. Grande campione!!
How can you dislike the words from this wise man?
Greetings from Belgrade - Serbia for legend Buffon from fun of FK PARTIZAN!!!
Good luck Maestro!!! 🏁
I already knew this man was a legend but with this vid he went directly to the olympus
This channel is SO underrated. It really puts out some of the best content I've seen on youtube. Keep it up!
