I am sorry you have to look into a camera instead of our eyes. Is it selfish of me to ask that you never stop looking into the camera? The wealth of spiritual knowledge you share is magnificent. I love that you can just sit there and talk, and talk, and talk and everything you say is of such precious value to my understanding. So thank you, and please find the joy in speaking into the camera and know that you are reaching so many of us who are growing spiritually because of the time spent with you. 💝

We can be recipients of a living example of receiving truth by having the Spirit of Truth with the teacher and allowing the OIC effect increase our confidence and renew our strength. It is our right to draw upon the reservoir of truth that surrounds us whenever we speak of Christ in front of any who come with ears to hear and eyes to see! What a glorious time is now, where we are given the privilege of being part of the Gathering! 🌎❤️. It is no wonder that Joseph invites each of us to go on in this Great Cause. Thank all of the students here who are being fed by the Lord as we sit before a master teacher - one who gives breathless reverence to our dear Savior, Jesus Christ!

You have brought the D&C to life for me and inspire me and my husband to be better servants and friends to our Savior, Jesus Christ. I so much appreciate your time and commitment to teach all of us and thank God for you often in my prayers. My life is richer because of your sacrifice and testimony. I love you my brother and friend.

I just had one of those tender moments when you were talking about the baptism and how your neighbor felt the Spirit…..but didn’t join our church. I try and try personally and in my callings and was a ward missionary and just didn’t feel like I was doing it right. Nobody was coming back to church or joining the church. I gave a book of Mormon to somebody, as far as I know they didn’t ever read it. And when you said this I loved that if the person wants to be a better person and wants to be more Christlike or turn back to Him then I have been being a missionary…they have felt the Spirit! If they can feel or see the light of Christ then I have been doing my part as I strive to be a good example. I also loved the tuning fork story because it is so true that we are who we are around. It is so important to surround ourselves with good people.

I am sorry that I don't comment very often but truly - I just am so very grateful for all you do for us. We gain so much by studying the gospel together. Hearing your enthusiasm for the gospel just gets me all excited again. I am a convert to the Church (as we all have to be sooner or later) I guess I should say I was not born into the Church. I love being with the Latter Day Saints, with like minded people with whom I can feel the Spirit unrestrained. Thank you for sharing your testimony of the Gospel so freely!!!

I am so grateful for your insights and ability to give the words of scripture modern application. Even though you don't know me I feel like I know you and you have become a precious friend to me. I resonate with the analogy of tuning forks. It is a true principle. Just as we resonate with truths we resonate with spirit. Not only THE Spirit but with the spirits of certain individuals who cross our path in life. I love those experiences! Those individuals are precious to me. You have become one of them. Thank you so very much!!!! God bless you, my friend.

We really enjoy and are enlightened by your comments. We love the humour you add as well.
Further to your analogy of “magnify”…I really feel the use of the the glass to burn or focus is dead-on. I have used this many times in various callings. If “priesthood” is the authority to act for God or in fact His power, then the glass is the perfect descriptor of magnify. 1. To focus the power of the sun, one needs to properly align the glass. Angles and distance become important. For a priesthood holder that means he has to be properly align himself with the powers of heaven.
    2. The priesthood holder is the glass. If the glass is not clean it cannot transmit or focus the power of the sun. Nor can an unclean priesthood holder transmit the power of heaven.
    Keep up the great work!

I loved this lesson. I will no doubt re-listen to savor my favorite places. Rise Up Oh Men of God has the thrilling sound of Zion, having our hearts knit together in love and the power of our God.
The desolation of abominations has been on my mind. The destruction of the wicked will surpass anything this world has heretofore seen. Therefore, shall we, like our Savior, gather his Sheep? We are on a Rescue Mission for as many as hear or sense the Light of Christ through harmonic induction and join the Lord's people prior to His Coming. My heart is filled with love for all of God's children and I try my best as a member missionary to lift where I stand. Scripture study provides safety and comfort and understanding so I can accomplish what He would have me do.

I so anticipated your comparison between the two priesthoods, and you did not disappoint! Thank you.
You contrasted the ancient tabernacle vs temple for AP vs MP. A more 'today' relevant comparison may be that our chapels are Aaronic facilities, where AP ordinances are performed, the preparatory Gospel is taught, and the Bishop officiates. In that sense, all 'visitors are welcome' to prepare to qualify for the higher MP facility.
There in the MP temple, the saving MP ordinances are performed, the mysteries of the Gospel are taught, and those holding the keys of the MP officiate. I have found this dichotomy is easily grasped by those unfamiliar with the Church and why we have two different buildings in which we go to worship. Furthermore, it starts a whole conversation about AP vs MP.
We join the Church of Jesus Christ with the AP ordinance of baptism. Paul describes this initiation as us being "planted together in the likeness of [Christ's] death" and that "we shall be [raised] also in the likeness of his resurrection" (Romans 6:1-6). Of course the initial step of baptism is in water (usually in the AP church font), then confirmation is where we receive the 'unction' of the HG.
I find it fascinating that as we choose to enter into the next level of discipleship in the MP temple, it requires another initiation through water and oil. Specifically, by repeating the pattern of "except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:5). In Nibley's "What is a Temple," he quotes Prof Rostovzeff, "Initiation is notoriously a symbol of death, the symbolic act of death and rebirth, resurrection."

As soon as she said it, I knew she was talking about that story. I confirmed what I already thought to be true by asking her what she found disturbing. You mentioned you read the scriptures slowly. It shows in your understanding. My husband was a slow reader who taught me the value of reading slow. My way to explain it is using a speed boat. At full speed it is skimming the surface of the water. it can circle the lake quickly and give its rides a good overview of the size shape and shoreline. But because of its speed the shore isn’t much more than a blur and the lake underneath looks hard and impenetrable. As the boat slows down it sinks deeper into the water and the water itself becomes softer and more interesting and you can pick out the details on the shore and under the water. When the boat is still in the water it’s sunk as deep in the water as it can without sinking. And you can actually get out of the boat and dive into the water and explore below the water or get out and explore the shore. That’s what you do with the scriptures.
I’ve done it with the Book ok Mormon and tried to do with the Bible. But never the Doctrine and Covenants before. Thank you taking me along for the ride
As I was told once. There’s good and bad to all things. Thanks to covid 19 I have available to me your study not just once but as often as I wish to listen to them.
I hope you plan on doing the Old and New Testaments too

Thank you! Please keep it up!

Hickle is a perfect word. Think ‘tickle’ in a ‘hug’ way, but the fingernails are a plus to softly bring out the chills that run up and down. I would do hickles and songs at bedtime with my own kiddos, and tell another chapter of a cliff-hanger fairytale I made up as we went along, resolving the pickle of the night before and making sure to paint myself into a corner each night, for my brain to figure out during the next day. Hickles serve as a nice way to keep young kids quiet in church (singing hymns of course at the right times.)
When I was a child, our family has a close tradition to sit in a chain around the table or on a couch and attend the sibling next to us with soft nails on the back or arms while the family studies scriptures, or watches a movie, simply calendaring or a few of us reading books sitting on a floor heater with a blanket over us to share the warmth and taking turns with the ‘hickles.’ Happy memories of healthy physical closeness and affection for brothers/sisters and these sessions grew into long interpersonal conversations sharing testimonies, discussing doctrines and philosophy, giving counsel about friends or employment options. We know how to get rid of an itchy back and soothe away feelings of isolation to be reassured of feelings of belonging and unity.

As a Ward organist and piano tuner, your insight, heart, and spirit resonates with me! Thank you for wanting to sing at the top of your lungs!
Just a few thoughts about resonance. Each note carries with it a harmonic DNA called the over-tone series. When a piano is in tune, you can lift the damper on the middle c for example and hit c an octave below and hear middle c resonate. The octave is the first note on the overtone series. It's the strongest! However, there are other notes that will cause middle c to resonate in this example. If you hit G middle c will resonate at a higher frequency because g is a part of C's overtone series. G is called the dominant of C and is the next note in C's overtone series, however, the strength of the resonance is less than the octave or the same note in your example. And it goes on with F being the sub dominant of C. Then it's fun to go through the scale and hear the harmonics middle c will resonate with. Warning: it doesn't like the tritone, which in this example is F#. Music is all harmonics!!!! For fun one day on an electronic keyboard where you could filter out harmonics. I filtered out everything above the fundamental frequency of a note and you get this thud, which makes sense because your listening to a note as it's being released.
I think this has too many parallels to your lessons over the last year and a half for me to draw on. But I think what I'm trying to say is everyone carries with them a resonant DNA from a strong fundamental all the way out to microtones. The further away from the fundamental the strength of the resonance is less just like the rock thrown into a pond example. This topic of resonance is so much deeper than my meger points and dear to my heart.
I love your lessons. Can't wait for some of these upcoming chapters and to hear your insight on some of the verses I've been pondering about since taking Physics in college. When we get there, maybe I'll share this story with you....and apparently everyone else. It's a doozie that really smacked me in the face and caused me to give pause about what it really means that spirit is everywhere. Can't wait!!!!

@@rconger24 Thank you. I studied EE and Music composition in College, so I tried to make the comment simplistic without going into too much detail. Love giving tuning fork and harmonic demonstrations to kids after I'm done and watch their eyes light up!!!! I also, usually get generously tipped when I take this time with kids. Funny how many parallels came flooding into my mind Jared has taught over the one word "resonance" for me. My scripture study has become super energized by his videos!!!!!

@@CN-pe4gz 88 & 131. I'll tell you this story and bury it in these comments since I have some time tonight. If Jared happens to read it....great. If not, that will be fine too. I'm sure he already knows things like this.
I took E&M Physics at SJSU in a lecture hall of about 250 students from the head of the department that happened to be LDS and I happened to live in his Ward. We were studying about the dielectric permetivity of a vacuum when my professor said Physicists put an epsilon nought in the equation to account for electricity being able to jump the gap through a vacuum. Then he said the only person in this room that understands why is Garth. Needless, to say I had no idea what he was talking about. So, after class I went to see him in his office to ask what it was I was supposed to know. He said, you know the scripture that talks about the spirit being everywhere? Y e s....in order for electricity to go through a vacuum it needs a carrier. Even though you remove everything from a vacuum and it's supposed to be empty it still contains spirit and it happens to conduct electricity. Then I went on a huge scripture search concluding he was talking about section 88 and maybe 131 speaking of spirit and matter.

Jared, I have turned many seniors to this program, who are and have been, including myself homebound since the COVID started.....I have not been out of my apartment senor complex since a YEAR AGO this last February 27th. I had patio and back yard common area filled with plants and veggies this year, last year I had my grandchildren come, no contact with just seeing each other through the living room windows.....and take all my pots etc. I have a female neighbor who works at our local hospital and does NOT care about protecting anyone, in fact she was bringing NON family members to stay with her, our patios connect right outside our front doors....duplexes. So I have had a pretty stressful year and a half.....Your putting this D&C class together has been a miracle and blessing for me at age 77. I have always been a free bird, and this has been a difficult test of patience. Our ward was doing zoom, but us who are hard of hearing could not hear other than a word or two here and there....THEN I found your site here......THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.....I can stop if needed for a few minute's, which I have to do often, and go back and listen again etc.

Someone in he 200 comments might have said this already, but I thought about your tuning fork analogy. We hit our tuning fork and it vibrates and others feel that vibration in their tuning forks and want to come unto God and receive light and truth themselves. That was a beautiful analogy. But it made me think of the scripture "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who art in Heaven." Really gives some added meaning and insight to it ... for me anyway. Thank you. You talked also about lesser and greater - Ordinances of Preparation and Ordinances of Presentation / Sacrifice and Consecration and such. I see that in your example. You've gained knowledge (prepared) did work for yourself learned the law, whatever. And then lived and shared the law. Consecrated your knowledge to all who are willing to listen. Thank you again for your efforts!!!!

Whoa! I had to pause right now, so blown away am I by the account of your defending Nephi's actions to the lady who was giving back the Book of Mormon, "Because surely God would not have had Nephi kill Laban." It IS such a pivotal aspect in the actions of Nephi, who had never taken anyone's life before... and I have often pondered on it, accompanied by the "it is better that one man should die...' verse that follows... but THAT was profound and fulfilled the earnest concern of this lady as she searched for truth. SO thankful that you were prepared that day, to have been able to hear you share this account, and especially the example/evidence it is that when we fill our minds/ hearts/ spirits with the things of God, He will come through to help us bring His children back to Him...Thank-you!!! (the specific answer fills my understanding of this unique circumstance as well...) Yesterday I bore my testimony without having a full sketch in my mind of where that would take me, and found myself confirming that the Lord is wanting to 'give away the mysteries of the kingdom' if we are but diligent in our asking and acting... and even remembered that President Nelson had quoted Neal a Maxwell - I thought - in that declaration...something I had not considered even remotely bearing testimony to... so I have a witness, in a small way, of these very things as well... How close I feel to the spirit when I listen to your personal stories that testify of the truthfulness of what you speak. Sorry rambling.. thank-you again!
