  • A verse-by-verse study of Doctrine and Covenants 93, a revelation explaining who and how we worship. This lesson focuses on ignorantly worshipping, seeing and knowing God, Christ's condescension, "grace for grace" and "grace to grace," perpetual progress, raising children in light and truth, and more. Plus parallels to the King Follett Discourse. Join Jared Halverson for your weekly Come Follow Me study of the Doctrine and Covenants!

You commented earlier in the year about your attempt to hand write out the Book of Mormon at the pace it was translated. In Feb I decided to copy the Book of Mormon, by hand, starting with the 1st page. My experience in “transcribing” this sacred text has been much slower (I’m only up to 2 Nephi 26 in six months) but very powerful. Each word gets read several times in bringing it from the text to my own hand-written copy. As I do I often picture Joseph Smith speaking the words to his scribe. I find myself, as my own scribe, making an assumption of what is coming next and, at times, having to liine it out. It also has slowed my reading to the point that I find myself giving it so much thought as I try to discern what these prophets want ME to know.
I’m thankful the Spirit is so willing to acknowledge the acceptance of your efforts as a gift to our Father by caring suggestions, perhaps unintended at times, into the hearts of your students. This written journey is so valuable to me I expect to continue with the Pearl of Great Price when I’m finished.
Thank you so much Bro Halverson. Take care.

Brother Jared…it was after a very early morning prayer that I was guided to your lessons. They have become a bright guidance for me to view, and learn from the scriptures….this has helped me to more fully understand who and how I worship. I thank you, once again for your faith filled dedication to teach with the Spirit of truth. My prayers are with you, and for us all to learn to be the Sons and Daughters that worship our Father in Heaven, as His Son always did….pleasing in His sight. Thank you my good brother….Keep up the wonderful work😇👍. David

When our body and spirit have different aims we also cannot have a fullness of joy. Our test is to align our bodies with what our spirits know is right. As long as our two halves are divided we can never experience a fullness of joy.

Easter message connecting the Doctrine of Christ with Holy Week is amazing! He previously compared the Doctrine of Christ to four tires on a vehicle (Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost). This has been my favorite presentation so far that I have watched. In fact, I have copied and saved this and section 84 to file, lest your RUclips videos are ever removed.
I am appreciative of the special treatment you have given eternal and perpetual progression, with the historical and personal insights. It was nice to learn that this theory/belief has been around for a while with references to Saint Gregory, our tradition scriptures, and the beautiful writings of Joseph Addison.
For those of us who truly want to have a full understanding, you do a nice job of anticipating what we need to know. It is like having a personal dialogue with one who has pondered and unraveled. We can get simpler discussions from other sources; but, for some of us, the depth and richness of what you choose to share is not to be missed.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to try to help us to see and understand through your eyes.

Your knowledge of the scriptures seems to come from years of teaching them and years of "learning for yourself" what they actually mean. Thank you for the course of your life that has shaped your perspective. I love that you went to Divinity School and also studied history. I learned so much from your lesson this week. Thank you. Since you asked, (although I don't know how I can limit this to one thought,) one thing I was so grateful to hear was the part on children being influenced by the traditions of their fathers.
I have been a member for over 48 years and the one thing I have tried to do is overcome the seemingly ingrained traditions of my "fathers." Someone else commented on the state of their heart and I would say that is part of my quest. Trying to change the state of my heart having inherited behaviors as a result of abuse. Would that it could be a little more noticeable that my heart is changing. The process is slow and almost imperceptible.
Thank you for ALL the wonderful insights.

Amazing! Really Love this lesson especially teaching children light & truth v tradition of the fathers. From a cultural background heavy in tradition, I know of members who believe in honoring tradition over God & eternal doctrine to the extent that they pervert the scriptures to justify tradition. Their children don’t want to change the false doctrine they were raised by nor desire progress bc it will deviate from what their “fathers or parents taught.” Kind of like a cult. These ppl outwardly have a form of godliness but lack the essence of real worship/conversion. Thank you for elucidating on the tradition of the fathers & teaching children correct principles👌👍👏

I am one who learns from order....when you were speaking of the 5 things we must do in order to see him and know him...it came to me, that there is order in those 5 things. One action follows with the next. When you talked about obeying his voice, my thought was once you have prayed that it is important to then obey the voice that you hear. Those voices are what help us to "become" step by step. Those steps are our personal journey to seeing Him and knowing Him. I use to be all about just doing. I had my check lists of what I was to do to be a good follower of Christ. These past few years the Spirit has taught me, that there is more to the Gospel than just robotically doing what I have been taught from my youth. Your words rang clear to me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talents that you have been blessed with because of your faithfulness. I have learned so much from you!

Continual progress, yes, but Joseph Smith also taught that one whose calling and election was made sure still could fall and become a son of perdition. No?
    It’s not easy.
I love your explanations and do not miss a broadcast.

Brother Halverson, I am working so hard to change for the better but my biggest challenge is my heart. I am trying to change my thoughts. How and what scriptures can you outline rhat teaches these things.
I need to go from doubt to faith. From fear to confidence. From enmity to love. I focus on Christ but it doesnt feel like enough. Please show me how to learn this!

Every time I hear “At One Ment,”I wonder if it works in any language other than English. Does anyone know?
Also, is there something we’re supposed to understand by the use of the word “Gospel” in lieu of “Word “ in JST John 1. It’s not every time, just at the beginning..

Bro. Halverson, in a few of your presentations, you used tuning forks as an example of being “in tune” with our heavenly Father. Twice I’ve purchased two each of tuning forks, small (musical application) and larger supposedly medical grade tuning forks ( double of the same note) and in each case I never got the one to resonate in response to the other. I’ve since returned them to the vendor. So my question to you is, what version or type of tuning fork should I be purchasing to achieve this result as you’ve referenced? Thank you for all you do for us to continue to understand our second estate and how to return to our Father through grace to grace. Thank you so much for your effective and eloquent presentations. Thank you for all your time invested in your lessons!

Such an excellent, clarifying lesson on this amazing section in D&C. But I’m confused. Is this not John the Beloved? You talked about John the Baptist from verse 6 and other verses. But is it John the Beloved, writer of the Gospel of John and writer of Revelation writing about seeing the baptism of Christ in vision and testifying of Christ’s divinity? And his record coming forth as scripture, verse 18. 🤔

One other thought. Verse 25…” more or less than this is the spirit of that wicked one “….I always think of the Amish, as beautiful as their faith is, but they deny themselves of more than God requires. One simple example is electricity and technology, but the great work of family history to accomplish God’s work requires electricity and technology. And priests who forego marriage, a sacrifice not required by Christ, but is wholly contrary to the plan of salvation. Again, more than Christ has required. Anything less than what Christ would ask of us is so reminiscent of JS’s comment that “ religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has the power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation.” The doctrine of Christ is so clearly laid out in the Book of Mormon over and over again as so well written in 2Nephi 31. More or less than this is simply not truth and not according to the requirements Christ has taught.

A “rock”concert isn’t still meditation either, it’s entertainment-what seems “underwhelming” to the observer, is often the still small voice pouring out to individual hearts. Each individual in the congregation is having to be tuned to receive the Spirit according to the obedience they give to the Lords voice, evident in their being “doers” of His word, not only “hearers” of His word in an orchestrated concert.
I understand you were being generous and understanding to other forms of worship. Also I know many in and out of the gospel are both doers and hearers of the Word, which the Word is flesh in Jesus, so obedience in doing as the Word taught, and obedience in hearing The Word through the Still, small voice is worship for me-and less reliance on the “flash”,and sadly we all sometimes rely on “flash”, and not patient and diligent obedience which gently and powerfully brings the Lords Spirit and Grace.

I so much look forward to your weekly podcasts, but I found this one to be difficult to listen to as I feel you are too hard on us about reverence and worship in our chapels and the temple. Yes there are people that may dedicate their lives such as monks in a monastery, but the Lord has asked us to live in the world to be the leaven to lift those around us rather than to become recluses in a world where we hide from all the evil or worldly things, this may be good for that individual but does it lift those around him? As you state Jesus condescended to come down and live among us and he spent his time with the sinners. I feel it is important that we love our brothers and sisters, that we share our love and feelings with each other, this may mean a little irreverence at times even in a sacrament meeting but can also help them to feel loved and needed. His critics believed he was violating the sabbath and perhaps felt him irreverent by healing on the sabbath, I can imagine that many of those healed on that sabbath day perhaps rejoiced to the point of being irreverent.

Can you not just stick to section 93? your makin it appear we are incapable of understanding the doctrine of eternal progression without quoting such a lengthy argument from an unknown Joseph Addison. you are just making your discussion complicated when you can do it with more siplicity. Is the taching of the gospel complicated? Pres Nelson's message and those of the other living prophets, i.e. apostles,
don't beat us around the bush with a verse by verse interpretation of the scripture. And you have the audacity to do so?

Benjamin, this is a verse by verse come follow me channel. There are lots of other shorter RUclips channels you could check out like Book of Mormon central, don’t miss this and follow him. They might be more to your liking? This is my favourite come follow me channel precisely because he goes into the chapters verse by verse, I find is fascinating and always appreciate any extra insights. The discourse you are referring to is actually very famous I believe it’s the one with the line “as man is God once was.” I hope you find a channel that is more to your liking or perhaps you will see the wealth that comes from an in-depth study of the verse by verse approach!! I certainly have 🤗
