People think the first comedic drum performance was Fred Armisen's 2018 "Standup for Drummers," but Dustin actually got the first major laugh (outside of the traditional badum-tss) with no spoken words - in 2006. I need y'all to understand how hard it is to get someone to laugh with a snare drum without speaking.
he marches center at phantom regiment..they don't enforce a strict philosophy on slicing, as long as it doesn't get in the way of your drumming - and it obviously doesn't for him.
i practiced 42 hours a week that year that he bragged really hard. tell him (long hair guy NOT dustin who walks the walk) to apologize to me RIGHT NOW!!!!!! I was not exactly a stature he could have taken on and certainly not now 21 years later. Major appreciation however to dustin and everyone else from marcus who i met at pasic 03 and 04. I had a very rough upbringing surrounded by people throwing a variety of expectations to me and i will never have good well being as a result. The guy i had a huge problem with played tenors in nov 02 at marcus then was in front ensemble in 03
@phew23 Ghosts or Phantom strokes are where you thrw the stick down but don't let it hit the drum, causing it to look like youre hitting the drum but making no sound. When done correctly it looks really cool.
@RA710 its called the casey/cavey claw its like a triplet roll with one u hit top of stick then butt of stick 2ce and repeat and when it gets fast it turns into a roll type thing its really cool......i cant do it perfectly but i can do it for the most part
@Raw2Juggalo bcuz to a non musical background audience peolpe would get bored watching complex rudiments being played. That only intersts other drummers.Average listeners/people like to hear/see stuff thats catchy. Also that is why people prefer music like "tik tok" by keisha over music that actually has theory behind it like Dream Theater.
from 3:09-3:13, what the Hell is this guy doing??!! I straight up CAN'T figure it out!! Trippy! I know it's just a bunch of Ghost hits, but WTF?! he does it in such a GENIOUS way!
Still watching those ghosts at 3:08 in 2019

Love the theatrics and the interesting application of Casey Claw
Gah, I'm a sucker for some sick ghosting.
that was beautiful man....clean, entertaining, techincally challenging, funny, and badass! keep up the good shit man!
Those are typically refered to as "ghost flams", not to be confused with "ghost notes" these are notes that are played but never strike the drum.
The white guy lol
I was in your sectional and ensemble. I was next to alex (the marcus kid) in ensemble
I liked all the flam drag variations.
3:02 I can't figured what he did. It's like a flam drag with the diddle cheesed or something.

not a good angle... great chops, but like many other snares there is a slicing issue...
oops..i mean section leader
O_O..... that passage with all the fakes in it freaked me out! unreal! Now THAT'S how you use fakes!
lol, not yet. I think He finally will be in 2009. for the 08 season, he was still spliting center.
