4:01 made me laugh “the eighth Doctor had no dalek stories ,this adds up to zero minutes”
When he probably really has more than any of them
i mean. the daleks are techically present in the movie. they execute the master
“The Daleks cameoed in no fourth doctor stories”
Logopolis: “are you sure about that?”
Ha! Nah, joking aside, there are probably quite a few montage examples which I've missed (the Twelfth Doctor remembering Rusty in Death in Heaven is another) - but I'd be here all day if I tried to include all of them! 😂 (Thanks for reminding me of one though!!)
@@StetsonDoctor that’s what I was thinking about 12 remembering Rusty in death in heaven and another example the daleks being cameos by the atraxi in eleventh hour
It really is then a case of where you draw the line. But yes - it would be interesting to try and document every Dalek appearance *in a montage*. Perhaps a topic for another video… 👀
If you do make a sequel video in this same style, I would love to see which doctor had the most Cybermen stories 👀
👀
@@StetsonDoctor Rip 3 and 8 though 😭
Keep an eye out on the channel this weekend 👀
@@StetsonDoctor Ayy the sequel we deserve
I’d love to see this with Big Finish included - as they basically represent 8’s tenure as the Doctor - and he’s had a LOT of Dalek stories and cameos over his era, and 1 obviously has far fewer. The balance might be a little more in 8s favour.
Never say never! It’d be a big task, but very interesting to see the results! 👀
This is no way a nitpick but thought I’d let you know that when the stone paradigm comes back to life in “the Big Bang” it’s actually 1996. As its Amelia just after she should of meet the doctor. Sorry for being one of those people. Great video as always though. Factual and enjoyable :)
Ah, so it is! Thanks for the reminder!
@@StetsonDoctor also I was going to mention too only one dalek comes back to life as you stated 2 come to life easy mistake i know, but 2 props are seen together as the blue dalek and orange one were painted up to be the stone henge daleks as the white one would go on into the wedding of River song and as the blue and white were the only ones to have remote domes as the others were manual, hope this helps, and theories that the eternal got away reason on there were only 2 prop s on show ( apart from budget of course)
Cameron
Great video! Very informative, you've done a grand job with this
Thank you! 😄
I can't fully agree here. The 8th doctor we did have a brief scene on Skaro in the opening where the Master is Exterminated. Though difficult to see we are told the planet of the Master's death and we hear the definitive Dalak voice saying Exterminate.
He says at the start voice only doesn't count
@@JamesMondasian True but there are two images at 10 and 2 o'clock to the master that roll away as exterminate is said. The image is so dark no clear image can be made. Also there is an uncredited Geoffrey Sax listed as Daleks (voice).
I get where you're coming from. In any case, the overall rankings would remain the same.
@@thompuckett9547 that also technically falls under the 7th doctor it's not part of the eight doctors story its exposition
When Dalek seen in movie, he hadnt regenerated yet, it belongs to 7th doctor moment and movie isnt Dalek story
I’m surprised the Daleks haven’t really appeared much in majority of the doctors run but surely had an impact
If you factor in that, it was the first Doctor that encountered the Dalek in the five doctors, and in his appearance with Capaldi, that's two more encounters for the first Doctor. (Though neither were played by Hartnell)
Very true!
I wonder if the show hadn't have been cancelled I wonder if sil would have had more Dalek stories due to the props being revamped/new casings moulded, and with skaro being destroyed on where they would have taken it due to the grand scheme of the cartmel masterplan
Should've ended the video with that actual 6:38 scene from "The Space Museum" as the First Doctor did the most Dalek stories "I FOOLED THEM ALL! I AM THE MASTER!😊"
Mission to the Unknown is part of Daleks Master Plan
4.01 I think you have triggered the entire big finish fandom
One of my favourite dalek stories has to be Power of the Daleks, because it shows how intelligent they are. Three half-wrecked daleks play the part of servant-robots in order to manipulate a human colony and get the resources to build new shells (while they secretly breed/clone new creatures). Revolution is similar that way. Genesis is just a cracking story, while in Parting of the Ways they're terrifying. The Dead Planet/The Daleks of course started it all.
Other than that, it's mostly favourites scenes I have rather than favourite stories. I have a guilty love of Dalek Caan's encounter with Solomon in Evolution (which convinced me that if daleks don't have a sense of humour exactly, they do at least have a sense of taking the piss).
The way the one in Dalek fakes out Rose, and the ones in Victory goad the Doctor (it was a silly episode in many ways, but the basis of their plan was excellent).
The rather helpless confusion in Bad Wolf, when hostage negotiations with the Ninth Doctor don't go the way they're expcting.
And the "message for the human race" at the start of The Stolen Earth... Someone once observed that the daleks look so unlike anything else that we don't have an instinct for how afraid of them we should be, so we mirror the reactions of the Doctor and other characters. Patrick Troughton played the Doctor as afraid of them, and our emotions followed suit. The terror of Eccleston's Doctor is palpable enough to carry all the way through Tennant's tenure as well. By contrast, Tom Baker's Doctor was rather more contemptuous of them, which hurt the atmosphere of Destiny, though the writing of Genesis was good enough to compensate.
If you included video games 11 might've taken this one away as they appeared in City of the Daleks, Evacuation Earth, Return to Earth and The Eternity Clock, bring Smith's appearances up to a whopping 10
if your including video games then the 13th Doctor should have Edge of Time/Reality, 12th Doctor should have Lego Dimentions, The Doctor and The Dalek, 10th Doctor would have that random Top Trumps game that was on Wii and PS2, 9th Doctor would have the game Last Dalek. There's also that Destiny of the Doctors game but it's unclear as to which Doctor it is at the time.
The daleks cameoed in logopolis
It really depends on the showrunner at the time.
Verity Lambert and David Whittaker / Dennis Spooner commission a lot of Dalek stories during the Dalekmania because they're very popular, and in many ways, they're part of the reasons for the initial success of the show.
Innes Lloyd and Gerry Davies wanted to transition away from them and focus on Davies' own creation, the Cybermen.
JNT only had the Dalek return once per Doctor and every time it focused on Davros. While Eric Saward also preferred the Cybermen.
RTD built his entire era on the Time War, and therefore necessarily the Daleks.
Moffat's whole era seems to not focus on the Daleks all that much; the Eleventh Doctor era is focused on the Silence, and the Twelfth is on Missy.
The Daleks did have a cameo in the TV Movie, though. Unless you only count them being seen onscreen.
It was only a vocal cameo, and they did say in the intro that they're not gonna count that
You didn't count the TV movie as a Dalek cameo?
It's a grey area, since we don't actually see any Daleks on screen... In any case, the rankings remain the same, whether you count it or not.
The 4th Doctor should have had more Dalek stories considering how many seasons he had. A bad dalek story is probably still better than "the Leisure Hive."
I think it is a tie between the First and Third Doctors.
technically, the first doctor wasn't in the episode "mission to the unknown"
Without looking, probably Mr Hartnell!
Nice vid! Would’ve thought that the end of the beast below should count though: there is one physically in the room although only seen in silhouette, surely at least on the same level as the war games appearance. But that’s nitpicking anyway, would love to see a cyberman one!
Thanks! The thought had occurred, yeah. There’s also a handful of montage appearances, and a couple of voice only (The Mind of Evil and The TV Movie) - so it’s by no means the only oddity. Might do an extra little video covering them…
My brain 🧠 💥 exploded when 42 was the answer 🤣
Eight did have a Dalek story! They exterminated the Master!
“We’re only counting tv stories…” Ok bye
Lol I thought maybe you would throw the 8th Doctor a bone cause you hear their voices in the 1996 movie, but alas no actual visual appearance.
Ha! I should have at least name-dropped the Movie, looking back. If I was making the video again now I would!
It's bizarre to me that Peter Cushing technically had more Dalek stories than four canon Doctors (not counting funny cases like the War Doctor, The Valeyard and so on). I know the Peter Cushing movies aren't canon, but still!
The War Doctor isn't a funny case and he and the 8th doctor had plenty of daleks stories that are just as valid as anything in the TV show
Doctor Who does it work on this nonsense logic of TV being superior to the other mediums Doctor Who literally doesn't give a damn and contradicts itself all the time
@@plantainsame2049 The video only counts TV storylines. In which case, the War Doctor has one Dalek appearance (except not really since that's an Eleventh Doctor story - it didn't count for Ten, after all) and the Valeyard has zero, and I'm not going to bother listing all the others that appeared without having their own series or TV movie.
And yes, the War Doctor is totally a "funny case" in the sense that he's an unusual incarnation that has barely appeared in the series proper - you know, what the video actually counts.
@@sayethvexus8332 the series proper do you mean Doctor Who 1966 our Doctor Who 2005
Those are two different television shows and considering that both shows switched full production teams if you want to get pedantic you can divide them further than that
The War Doctor is not a funny case because he's a Mainline incarnation we know he exists all the time his existence isn't debatable like The Fugitive doctor or the curator who are both left to the time Winds of the doctors future in the past which are constantly changing
4:31 and you forgot army of ghosts
I left it off deliberately, since they only appear right at the end! (And to then include it separately, as a cameo, wouldn’t have made sense!)
The First Doctor for Dalek Stories and runtime, Eleventh Doctor for most stories that a dalek or daleks appeared in
unless we are counting expanded media in which case I don't know, I would assume 5 or 6, though maybe 7 or 8
Though the daleks also had an appearance in the space museum
It would be great if Paul Mcgann's 8th Doctor returned in a full one-off televised story special, just for his Doctor, just to have him officially encounter the Daleks on-screen and thus have all the Doctors having at least one televised Dalek story as per tradition. (I do know the 8th doctor has met the Daleks in audio adventures, novels & comics but that shouldn't count since none of those were on the live-action TV series or its prime continuity as that just complicates things unnecessarily)
He has officially encountered them big finish is official and the events of those stories are mentioned in the show.
The man has more stories than any other doctor
Doctor Who also doesn't have a prime continuity Doctor who's continuity is f****** time travel
@@plantainsame2049 I meant on-screen on television as in a television episode, perhaps as a one-off special as part of the main TV series...
@@owenwildish331 Which main TV series They're still two of them
@@plantainsame2049 The only two I know of (apart from the spin-offs) is the Classic Series and 'New-Who', but 'New-Who' is supposed to be a revival/continuation/soft-reboot of Classic Doctor Who... Unless you're counting the Peter Chusing Dalek Movies as well..?
13th has 4 delaks stroys dose the power of the doctor count
I made this video just before we got the first trailer for The Power of the Doctor, so had no idea they were going to be in it! Obviously there will be some who would prefer to count TPOTD as a cameo, but I'd definitely count it as a Dalek story!
Looks like you may have to update this in 2024/2025 even The Cyberman one I feel.
You bet I will! 👀
Would love to see this vid updated at tbe end of series 13
i had no idea that i needed to know this information until now, great vid! (kinda makes me hate the moffet era less now that i know he didnt milk the daleks as much as i thought) :D
At the beggining of the TV movie, isn't the master kill by the daleks on skaro?
Didn't the Dalek's cameo in the intro to the TV movie?
You should have calculated dalek density = number of dalek stories / total number of stories. Would put into perspective how much dalek we got with 9 and how little with 4.
Also, Rusty isn't a good dalek, he just hates daleks.
WOW! Jan 2024, So this video is almost 2 years old... A bit out of date with the counts. I too was shocked at the number of Dalek stories versus the January 2024 counts of The Master's appearances. Don't most people think the Daleks have appeared the most as the doctor's nemesis over the 60-year history?
Very curious now where this data comes from?
The time and research to put these numbers together especially if they're original means somebody did a heck of a lot of research and analysis... A competent RUclipsr spends a lot more time putting a video together than some people who think all they do is hold up a camera all day.
Excellent video, could you do the Cybermen next?
Thank you! That’s definitely on the cards, yeah! 👀
@@StetsonDoctor You're welcome ^^
I was going to suggest Sontarans too but it would be over very quickly :P
Honestly, the thought had passed my mind, haha! It would be a shorter video, yes, but I’ll probably get round to it eventually! The Strax appearances would bulk it out a bit, if nothing else 😅
The Hitchhiker's refernece >>> there should never be a Dalek appearance ever again to preserve this fact forever
Oh, and favourite dalek story is genesis for originality :)
What about multi-Doctor specials? A Dalek cameoed in "Day of the Doctor" before the three Doctors, which includes the Tenth, entered UNIT. Wouldn't this count as a cameo for the Tenth Doctor as well?
What about Bill seeing the Daleks and Movellans? 12th took her to their war
The Pilot is covered under the ‘cameos’ section!
Dalek vs 1st Doctor in the five doctors must count for the first Doctor because he fights it
How can you not count big finish?
It's not that I don't count it - it's just that it would have been too big a task to include it all!
I’d like to see you do The Master
ruclips.net/video/s0NQI7jHDec/видео.html
Flux is just one story though
Wow they've featured 42 times?! You can tell Chris Chibnell is in charge
I guess its 3rd
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE WAR GOCTOR
I suppose it would be cheating to include their expanded media Dalek stories as well.
Not cheating - just a LOT of extra work!! 🤣 That would be super interesting though!
John pertwee I think he didn’t like them at all Tom had a few the best one genesis of the daleks William hartnell had a few I can only remember two stories from patrik troughton can’t think I bet there not much in it the I know sulvester McCoy only done one
Genesis is arguably more of a Davros story.
