As a Sploosh enjoyer, I actually love maps like Flounder and Maria because there are so many surprise positions you can take, and the platforms people are on are quite small and Sploosh range-y. I also think LDE is great because it makes curling bombs WAY cheaper.
I think curling bomb is underrated (not by a lot, but still). Sploosh, roller, and many other frontlines can use it very well for mobility, throwing it and not following, throwing multiple and following one of them, it can actually occasionally get kills or combo especially in small areas like behind the truck on mincemeat, and there's just in general a lot of versatility it can provide certain types of weapons.
In addition to having boosted acceleration while swimming, Sploosh also has the fastest time in the game to transition from swim form to shooting and vice versa at only 2 frames.
I've been an enthusiastic rat-style player and Sploosh-main since Sploon2, and I greatly appreciate this earnest study of the weapon's abilities and limitations. Part of why I prefer this weapon and other weapons which never chart well in competitive tier-lists is that precision-aiming is not as crucial to using this weapon well, considering that most of your shot-kills are going to be in extremely close-range. As I've said elsewhere, I don't have motion control turned on, and I do accept the limitation this places on my skill-ceiling, but there are many ways to grow as a player and I love the way this weapon make you think holistically about where everybody is located on the map and where you can move to scramble the other team's plans.
Me, over here screaming about cooking curling bombs. They're like targeted mines if you practice with them and their explosions are so much higher if you hold the button. XD And they definitely poke if you cook 'em! I use those over ledges to get the drop on squids that may not be expecting them with shorter fuse times. It makes the Sploosh into a slaying monster if you use it in combo with ninja squid and its rat-like tendencies.
Especially if you have some sub savers. Keep popping them off at different cook times, and you can keep an area pretty clear. I get a decent amount of splats tossing a curling bomb behind someone and then rushing at them to catch em in a pincer attack too. The curling bombs are super underrated
Sploosh feels like more of a Melee weapon that the rollers, personally. You got no range but you're fast af to compensate It's even bad, a cornerstone of melees in shooters.
I'd love to know what third kit players would eventually want to see for Sploosh. We probably dodged a bullet when the second kit specifically DIDN'T get Tenta-missiles, but neither of the existing kits feel incredibly well-tuned to what Sploosh wants you to do. The first kit is exclusively tools that continue to telegraph your movement so enemies can locate and shoot you, and the second kit wants you to avoid the main stage while ineffectively blasting Wails at enemies or else try to push in w/ Wails, again pretty ineffectively.
Splat bomb with either kraken, trizooka, inkjet or zip caster. Crab tank would make the weapon play to similarly to the vanilla kit of It's splash-o-matic brother weapon. And tenta missiles when combined with splat bombs would bring the weapon into broken territory, not fun to deal with. But splat bomb is the most important part. Even if it's not splat bomb, torpedo and burst bomb will do just fine. The point is that It desperartly needs a poking tool especially in a game like splatoon 3 where most of the maps lack flank routes and shaped like skew-tetrominos/thunder point (tableturf).
I'm a Neo Sploosh main, I've found that neither Sploosh is particularly dependent on its kit so I figure a lot of the advice here will apply to the Neo as well. Great video :)
I think that a backline that can go frontline like squiffer is really good paired with sploosh because sploosh can bring enemies out and distract them and then the other can splat them
What I get from some of the explanations is that Sploosh isn't very good in soloQ due to relying on your teammates knowing what you're doing, but it's also not the first choice in competitive because you'd have to dedicate at least half of the team to making it work... Man, it really doesn't seem to be welcome in the higher levels. Oh well, at least it can be good in Turf War and top tier in Salmon Run. SPLOOSH GANG LET'S GOOO
Watching this made me feel a bit at home. In the first game, I HATED Sploosh, something about being a shooter but not having any range just weirded me out I guess? I don't know. I just couldn't figure it out. I was an N-Zap 89 main in that game but secondary seeker main if that makes sense? I would play Tri Slosher Nouveau & Carbon Roller Deco because I enjoyed the mobility seekers gave & I just felt more comfortable playing them because they had seekers. Second game comes out, I gravitate toward the N-Zap 85 at first but I missed my seeker weapons. We did however get curling bombs which provided some of what I liked about seekers. It didn't sniff out the enemies or make climbing walls easier but it at least was a mobility option so when I picked up Sploosh out of curiosity, I ended up really enjoying the weapon. Having that mobility added to it made it playable for me. In 3, I was hesitant to play Sploosh because I never was good with stamp but I surprisingly learned it faster than I thought I would & while I still am not great with stamp, I've made some fun plays with it. I'm still an N-Zap 89 main, I love auto bomb, it's my second favorite sub behind torpedo because I just generally like honing subs so I do tend to spam auto bomb a lot on the 89 & I do play it a lot but I am always comfortable going back to sploosh, I find it's fun & flexible which is something I enjoy, if flexibility is taken away from me, I perform poorly.
I should of waited until the end to comment, oh well. On being deceptive with curling, I LOVE it! I had practice toying with people using seekers all the time in the first game so it was natural for me to do that & it feels better with curling because I feel like I have enough ink to act where as with a seeker, they suck up ink faster than I suck up water on a hot day after a long hike. Curling bombs create a space for mind games & I LOVE mind games, it's the reason why social deduction games are my favorite, you can play some seriously crazy mind games there. I have just sat in my ink, watching the enemy focus on shooting the trail & laughing about it before.
The series is primarily on lower-tier or unpopular weapons tho so i dont think .52 gal is ever getting a video (n-zap might very well get one tho, does seem to be kinda low in usage atm)
29:45 lol XD that was just so lucky XD. Also, obligatory "Nice one" from my part, as an enthusiast of curling bombs 🥌. Also, I really like the explanation at 29:50, I also get a lot of splats from throwing charged curling bombs from above a ledge and people just don't see me but I see them and I get splats that way with curling bombs. 30:25 Gem! you are good with curling bombs! lol XD. Also, I recomend to not spam curling bombs without intention, as it takes so much of your inktank. To splat with curling bombs is always circunstancial, but it really helps if the enemy cannot see where you are charging the curling bomb from. But to be a good sploosh player you doesn't necesarily mean to be good with curling bombs. Also, I have seen some japanese player being a sploosh main and having like 2800 X power. I feel there are really good sploosh main people, but we just don't know them. Anyways, nice video Gem, and thanks for all the tips Dio, those are definitely useful :).
Guys I want to ask for a second opinion about this, I think my opponent Hydra is using aim bot R2Q7-Y53J-1LAH-BMXW His aim looks too snappy and can seem to see people behind walls. I just want to confirm before reporting... Thx before.
He's in the walls... *grabs sploosh o matic* HE'S IN THE GODDAMN WALLS!
That title just makes me think: “You thought it was a wall. But it was I Dio!”
I was gonna say that lol
Gems evil laugh into explosion combo at 36:26 was amazing
That was a Tom and Jerry moment. Very Looney Tunes.
Dio is an excellent teacher. His explanations were clear and concise.
Thanks king o7

I agree on certain maps were u can edge camp with curlings it’s so fun.

correct!
Because of this, it's actually faster to main strafe with Sploosh than it is to sub strafe.
O no splooshs are in my walls again

So what you're saying is we should... Let 'em cook?
Especially if you have some sub savers. Keep popping them off at different cook times, and you can keep an area pretty clear. I get a decent amount of splats tossing a curling bomb behind someone and then rushing at them to catch em in a pincer attack too. The curling bombs are super underrated

Another integral lesson on the specialized role of being a Little Bastard Man. Distract, annoy, surprise, and heckle!

Tenta missiles would have been soooo good but also extremely broken 😞
curling bomb and splashdown like in splatoon 2 😭 🪦

Thanks Dio and thanks Gem! I've never played Sploosh and this made me want to try it out 👀
smh my head didn't even ask where it would be on a tier list
This shall certainly help me with my meme picks in open
I know Dio! I fa ed him a tourney a while back, he was super good, and he even offered to coach our sploosh player!
Who are you? Genuinely curious

Entirely different playstyle since it doesn't have a bomb at all and Wail is... well Wail is on the weapon.
I like running some sub cost down so that Im not so limited by the curling
