It's difficult, what you are suggesting. That maybe not some "lucifer" is "the root of all evil", maybe we just ought to watch ourselves. That is a very difficult thought, and those who have it tend not to go too far down the "religion" path.

At around the fourth - sixth season the writers have difficulties to find something new and it gets weird or contingency problems start to appear.
I don't think series are greater now, but I think great series are given a far better chance to thrive in this century, Firefly for example, had it been on Netflix would have soared. So many great series have been lost before the audience discovered them. Like art, a great painting may not be appreciated until decades later. Netflix and the like allow us time to contemplate, allow us to decide if the art is good or bad.

Actually I like to think that this show is just entertaining, hilarious, and has some sad times which makes it special. That’s why I totally went all in for watching this in four days and wanting to do it again (even if I did just start a new series which I don’t really enjoy- Black Lightning). I may have replayed that scene a few times after I finished watching the episode (I only went back again and again for about an hour...). I love Nina's but Tom did a fantastic job, I wish he had done the entire song.

I'd never heard this song before, but this masterful performance/rendition had me finding & listening (multiple times) to the 10ish minutes long original Nina Simone version. Both so great.
