My father was the Wing Material Control Officer for the 553 Recon Wing from September 1969 to Novembrer 1970. Major Pasquale "Bob" Moretti. Thanks for sharing this video. I was able to visit the Korat RTAFB in 2006 to meet the Wing Commander and get a tour of the base. My wife is Thai and she helped coordinate the visit. Was met at the main gate by a AF pilot and given a tour of the entire base. Was walking in my father's footsteps just one year after his passing in June 2005.
That is great, Johnny! Thank you so much for the comment and for sharing your story. I, along with a USAF buddy of my dad's went to Udorn RTAFB this year for Children's Day. It is the one day of the year when civilians are allowed on base. I'm so glad they facilitated a tour for you!!! That's great!
A salute to you Mr. Davis for making this film possible. I LOVE it. I was at Ubon RTAFB in the 67-68 time frame. I was an engine mechanic. Later I went back for a second tour and was stationed at Korat (69-70). The memories came flooding back after viewing this one. The original engine shop was at the end of the runway. I can remember being told one night to move back over to the main part of the base (Airmen's club area) because an F-4 was coming home and had hung ordinance. We watched him land standing on a barracks roof over there some where. Jerry
Thanks for the comment! Your time at Udorn may have overlapped with my dad (who filmed these videos). he was there 66-67, then Ubon 67-68 :) No wonder it looks so familiar to you! I arrived at Udorn in September 1966 with the 432nd Recon Wing. Ended up working at both Ubon and NKP, then off to Lima Site 20a...It was a very interesting time in my life...
My Dad, Edward M Davis was the NCOIC of the Motion Picture Combat Documentary Section there. He wasa sergent in Det 3, 601st Photo Flight He was stationed at Ubon in 1968. This video is great
If your father is still living, please thank him for his service for me! I appreciate your comment as well. :) Looks like our dads may have overlapped a little at Ubon as well... and with similar names!
My father flew the 86 and then the F4. I know it was around 65'-67'. He was at Ubon I believe and was w the triple nickel at some point. His name was Theodore (Ted) Dorris. A good friend of his while there was Robert (Bob) Sawhill who was unfortunately shot down but did survive where he became a surviving POW. I remember wearing a pow bracelet in his honor. I never served but am extremely proud of any and all who have donned a uniform,
Those F86s are not Thai, they are Audtralian built and operated F86s, distinctive with their bigger engines and they had 2 x 30mm cannons instead of 60 .50 machine guns
