Sorry to hear of his passing. Everyone is getting older. My hope is that Ubon guys (or any S.E.A. serviceman) will stumble onto this video and get a small taste of some memories from their past! Glasses up tonight for the Colonel!
@@genemolnar2825 Sorry for the late reply Gene. I missed this comment somehow. My father in law was a Marine Corp Phantom crew chief with 101 Sharpshooters. I appreciate you saying hello. Where did you do your stateside duty? Doug
Wow you took this? Thank you for taking the video! I obtained it on a disc that I bought from a guy who gave me the ok to use the content on it. Must have been a treat to work on that ramp with all the Phantoms. My dad did a year at Korat working on the refueling trucks but has some great pictures (slides) of the F4s, 105s, 111s, A7s etc. His shop was right next to the F4 ramp. He still talks a lot about it. I hope that you are not upset at all that I used this footage. Everything I post having to do with aviation / military is to commemorate the brave men who answered the call. I have a special place in my heart for the Vietnam guys since my father is one of them! Sincerely, Doug
I was the Admin Officer for the 8th Field Maintenance Sq during all of 1970. We supported the 8th Tac Fighter Wing. During that time, the Wing broke all PACAF Flying records in a one-month period. They also had a Sq of AC-130 Gunships there. Four days after I arrived in early Jan 1970, we got hit with a sapper attack and they were after the Gunships. I see a couple of you in previous posts were there the same year I was.
I was the training NCO for the 25 TFS dec 69 . dec70 was there for O dark 30 when they can thru the fence l heard the bullets sing as i ran into a fire fight . WE never got the Pres unit award for the job we did.
Hi Larry. I'm not sure how I missed this comment! Thanks for sharing. I would love to hear more about this if you would be willing to share. If so please email me at Stadium79YT@gmail.com My dad did a year at Korat and I want you to know there are a ton of guys out there that appreciate the role that the bases in Thailand played in the effort and would love to hear more details about your time there! My name is Doug. Thanks!
Arrived at Ubon July 69 from Bitburg Germany. Assigned to Satan as a night weapons Supervisor. After a month reassigned to 408 MMS Loading Standardization until July 70.
1973-74 8th TFW Munitions Maintenance Sq. AC-130 Gun Shop. Mainly I worked on the railroad laying thia''s. One of the best times of my youth. We worked hard but we played harder. Often wonder what happened to all my buddies.
My dad has said the same. 12 hr days 7 days a week, but the hooch barbeques sound like they were great! little getaway to Pattaya Beach once in awhile!? Thanks for saying hi Ed!
Some of us are still around, yeah I worked that railroad also, the 8th is still alive , I was one of the last lwo to leave Ubon. The 8th became the 6233 ABS under LtC Harry A. Goodall, later to become the Commander of the Alaskian Arir Command, I was Harry A's bodyguard for few weeks, he was a real prime dude, with no fear!! Oh you must remember the PLAYBOBOY CLUB!!!
Easy to get messed up. Ubon Rachithani (home of The Wolfpack), Udorn Thani (which is today called Udon Thani, and was home to the 13th Panther Pack). Some great shots here. I live in Udon Thani. The airfield, that was extended I am told to accept B52's by a woman who actually worked at the airbase during the Vietnam War, is now the Udon Thani International Airport. As you set off down the runway the aircraft revetments can still be seen. Pass them on the way out, and on the way in. Air America SE Asian Headquarters was at Udon Thani. The Spooky and Specter gunships operated out of Udon too, as did the spraying tankers for agent orange. Many reports from people who were there at the time. Still hunting out The Bamboo Bar and Champagne Rooms.
@@johnburt694 I had the pleasure of going to an airshow at Seymour Johnson back in like 2005. Seemed like a great base (a lot warmer than Lowry huh?) My dad did most of his time at Luke outside of Phoenix.
We had an old retired COL at the Legion Hall who flew in the 497 TFS doing night missions during 1966/67.
He passed about a year ago...
