Great job Mac! I brought the 2 Read concept to my school and seems to the perfect addition...
This is incredibly informative. Thank you!
COACH! 1:49 was probably the best thing i learned about this defense!!!!
a Left corner and Left Safety (they dont move unless game planned) awesome concept for high school football!!
Great opening tutorial on this Defense.
2 Read is played vs. slot sets with a #2 removed receiver. It is a little safer vs. Vertical routes by 1 and 2 than traditional cover 2 but gives you the ability to make it traditional cover 2 with corner flat support vs #2 WR to the Flat. It also makes the safeties play a bigger role in the run game than the corners whisc is huge in high school because the ball is on the hash so much and the corner might be 25 yards away.
Coach MacPherson
I love watching you videos; you break down the game really well and I appreciate that.
I especially appreciate that as a person who never played the game as a child and could not learn to appreciate its nuance until I was much older.
Since then I taught myself the game by watching videos such as the one you post as well as some football blogs. I wanted you to know I enjoy your videos.
Now I do have one question, and I have never, seen a video or a blog explaining this: blocking.
I watch many videos that cover Erhardt-Perkins philosophy, Bill Wash's philosophy, and Don Coryell philosophy on offense--I even have some of their playbooks. Aside from the playbooks, very little is discussed about blocking. I just know from my research that most of the offensive plays coaches draw up are using "base blocking rules" but those rules are hardly explained.
I have a brother who play LT in a summer league and all he plays is man concepts. Aside from enriching myself, I want to show him a few things to make his team better--such as using trap blocks and cut block. I would appreciate it if you send me an reply or email or make video explaining offensive blocking. I really hope to make some plays for him to help his team win next year.
It kind of comes down to zone schemes, man schemes and gap down schemes. Almost every offense or offensive play will use one of those philosophies.
The mike lb sets the front 6 and yes they flip
Very similar to a base 4-3 in Canadian football, only difference is you get to have a Sam LB in Canadian ball since there's 12 on the field at once. Also the slot safeties are called halfbacks
Hey, it's Brett. Watched all the games this past season and tried breaking them down play by play. Couldn't make it to any games because of college. Best of luck to you and the future of RHS. I learned a lot.
Love your videos coach, keep em' comin.....one question....what are the advantages of the "2 READ" and what a
It is very good, and very sound. Good luck.
Coach, I have been watching your videos on you tube and absolutely can't get enough. My question to you is how you wuld align against a double wing team. We see a couple of these teams in our conference. Sometimes the alignment is with a tight end to one side and split receiver to the other.
Coach could you do a vlog/blog on your base alignments vs. various formations i.e. pro(twins), Wing-t (red/blue), spread (2x2/3x1) and some heavy formations ?
If it was our base defense we would be quarters to the side we declare strong and lock away. If we were going to see this a bunch and there was motion involved we would line the FS up in the middle and then declare strength to side of motion. True flexbone teams like Georgia Tech are tough to defend once a year
Bruh, this is beautiful. thank you
Hope it helps
@@CoachMac it does. I am a Raider fan. They are going to run this defense. I love how your break it down. I had to share it in my Raider Facebook group.
Hey Caoch.. great videos from you .Using a lot off you 4-2-5 on my defense this season..
one question? how to line up the 3 Tek. ? Field side ore?
Hey Coach MacPherson, thanks for all of the knowledge sharing you do on here! The 4wr to a side video you did per request helped us tremendously against a 4-2-5 team we faced. For that hats off to you sir, now I have a question that a D Coordinator Colleague of mine left me scratching my head with: How would you defend this? TE_G_C_G_T_T. X.
WB. Qb.
TB
FB
Team is run heavy, but basically if the format displays correctly( I'm on my mobile phone). It is strong I, unbalanced with the split end to the unbalance, and the tight end and wing to the weak side. This formation has given him fits in the past with the divorced front concept. As an Offensive coordinator I try to beat the D with numbers by alignment and then assignment. Cut the O in half at the center and count numbers to determine if the D alignment is matched with the O fundamentally. This formation gives 6 1/2 strong 4 1/2 weak if you cut the QB, C, and FB in half. Any insight would help, thanks.
Thanks Coach! These videos are amazing. One question, I'm a u18's coach in Australia, I was wondering if there is any chance of getting a copy of your defensive playbook to see how you go about explaining and illustrating this Defense to your players. Is there anyway I could obtain a copy? Cheers!
Brett,
We were hit and miss on defense this year. Our best games were against the best offenses we played. Go figure. Stay out of trouble.
Coach
Coach please do a video ONLY teaching Palms Coverage. Thank you...
coach could you show me how to stop a wing T team from 4-2-5?
More quarter vs bunch sets
Usually make some type of area or box call and zone off 4 for 3. First in, first out, with 2 deep players sorting out routes.
do you have any videos with the 4-2-5 vs flexbone and load option to the weak side
Thanks Coach Scott, look for a new video on using half line drills to teach coverages in next day or two.
Thomas MacPherson can you show me how to stop a wing T team from 4-2-5? traditional wing T and double wing
Rich,
I am not currently booked to speak at any clinics. I am seriously considering doing some of my own webinars through the website, but dont know if i have the technological capability.
Hey Coach. What are the factors you take in consideration when deciding to play 2 sky or 2 hard on the backside?
Coach Mac, what would you say are the benefits of playing a 1-tech (2i) over a true shade?
Hey Coach Mac.....are you speaking or attending any Coaching Clinic?
And what offensive formations do you use the 2 READ against?
Coach: Wondering how you signal in all the "details" (DT alignment; potential blitzes; coverages, ect.) in a short amount of time vs. a up tempo offense???
Most of our calls are relatively simple. With a base coverage structure that is a check with me system, you can eliminate verbiage. One of our stunts might be Over Exit Base, a blitz might be Over Axe Hot
Good morning coach how do you teach your quarterback how identify the 4-2-5 and what’s the weakness of the 4-2-5
No real weaknesses, identify weak players. Big body sets like 12 or 22 personnel can give it issues
Coach, can you touch on the alignment of your ILB's? I've seen several different alignments in the 4-2-5.
Base is Mike in a 10, Will in a 30. Changes based on formation and game plan
@@CoachMac appreciate it, thanks!
Nickel wide 9 cover 4 please vs thight formation and wide 9 defense
Is that Madden?
When you say 2 read, does that mean one of the 2( corner or safety) is cover the half of the field if one of the receiver goes vertical? Or you’re just reading #2 and adjust off that.
Yes 1 or 2 defenders may end up deep
Hey coach, how was this defense beat during the season? Are the vulnerabilities the read responsibilities given to the DBs up in the box?
Like anything else it gets beat when we don't execute and have poor eye discipline.
Hey coach, in your 21 Twins formations, if you have a drag/in route by #2, who would you have account for a swing by #3? I'm assuming a swing by #3 would be wide open, since the Will would take that in route of #2 and FS would be working on #1 with the corner?
What coverage?
Thomas MacPherson when you're in palms
21 pers twins we would have a safety down to the twins that has swing if 3 with will in slant
Thomas MacPherson Thank you for your insight coach!
Thomas MacPherson We're looking at possibly installing 4-2-5 this year with quarters concepts. We've been 3-5-3, so I've been really loving your 4-2-5 breakdowns. Thank you.
Hey Coach ! What is your adjustment ( If any) if the offense has the fullback in King or Queen using this exact 21 shut left 2x1 formation ?
Just push the LBS and the WS towards the king side, no coverage changes
Thanks for the quick reply Coach ! Appreciate it and enjoy your blog and videos !
Coach, why did you move away from a 4-2-5 to a 3-3?
Better fits our personnel, wanted to be different. We play the same coverages behind it.
Coach, how do you play twins open, with the play in the middle of the field?
Palms to the Twins and Sky or Cloud Support to the Single giving us an 8 man front
@@CoachMac Sorry coach, meant twins on both side middle of the field
How do you defend this same formation if the TE is to the twin side?
Trips or 3x1?
@@CoachMac yes trips to the TE side. No one on the receiver threat backside? I have trouble with alignment/force in this situation.
What’s backside a nub TE or a receiver?
@@CoachMac backside is more like a tackle than a TE (no wr threat)
That’s a funky set that requires a game plan
