I actually started changing how we define option stuff because of jet power read. We now talk in terms of inside player and outside player instead of QB and dive.
Question Coach: How would you change your alignment if a team lines up with a TE and WING to one side. We saw a lot of teams this year run this style of offensive formations and run Zone read to the TE/W side reading BS DE and Quick Trap . Killed us, wondered what your thoughts were. We are a 3 and 4 front team, 3-3-5 and 4-2-5.
Coach McCoy this formation actually gave us some trouble and I need to look at how we defend it a little more. We tried to play quarters concepts to the TE/Wing which essentially would get 2 extra defenders frontside if the TE/Wing blocked, but our secondary did not get involved as much as I would like.
We did the exact same thing with the QB changing roles. We are a 3-4 defense that tries to dabble in a four front a little depending on personnel we put a ILB down or bump a OLB to a 5 or just bring in another nose body. We had some trouble this year with what we call track formation 3-1 with 11 personnel in pistol. The y or TE is off the LOS behind the tackle. Basically ran power, counter, play side guard pulls play side for toss. Then they would put #1 and #2 tight ( both were less than 8 yards for the tackle) on the LOS and bring that single WR side WR in motion. We called this tron formation. We basically tried bringing safety down or squatting corners for edge help.
Interesting video, but as a beginning amateur fan I have some trouble with (especially playbook) jargon and slang. Anybody know of a good web 'dictionary'. 'Cause I ain't too smart I like diagrams and animations.
When defending any type of read option if you disrupt the mesh point it will cause panic. Allowing the EMOL to stand there plays into the hands of the offense and does not put pressure on the read. With a majority of schools albeit high school or college doing a lot of read option its essential to hit the QB no matter what.
We have been seeing a bunch of split gun power read. Gets nasty where they get pistol and run zone read AND power read with QB that is a threat OUTSIDE. Thanks enjoying your stuff. Just found you a couple days ago. We are implementing your competition stuff next year.
also you need athletic offensive lineman works best with read option many offensive lineman are being taught to pass block and are shitty run blockers ravens are winning with athletic lineman
box use to be the buz word for ends long time ago read option offense is old old school football funny how they say NFL is passing league the old read option offense is winning in NFL lol

good stuff, that squeeze and pop technique is very clever never seen that before
Facing a spread team with wide ol splits 3 to 5 ft how would you align your 425 up front?

I know this is old, do you still incorporate these principals today? Any changes from this since it's been made?
We are 3-3 stack now, we chase the dive with our ends vs any veer release blocks.

Unfortunately football does not have a universal language. I'm sorry for confusion.
What do you mean 10 man or 11 man personnel?
thanks
First number is # of running backs, second number is # of TE'S.
Thank you!! (for your patience in answering all my basic questions)
