I can't get over how nonchalant this man is. He is looking into the camera while flicking strings faster than most people can use a calculator. Then literally flicks his cords while still picking. It's just awesome. I love the voice behind it. This is awesome. This is just absolutely beautiful.
You should see videos of him and Clifton Hicks playing together. Clifton is happy like a kid in a candy shop when he plays with this very special banjo player.

This is real American music.Listening to Clifton Hicks & Matt is like being lifted to another level of musical experience.England salutes these musical heroes.Thank you.
Both Kinman and Hicks seem to like that double C tuning on the banjer. It's hard to beat. Songs like Darlin' Corey, and Shout Little Lulie are perfect for that tuning. I've even heard Cumberland Gap played in that tuning. Hattie Stoneman and Commie Tipton had a special Cumberland Gap tuning that's really nice.
Thanks Matt, and continued success. I hope your TV show gets picked up by a sponsor and I can get it on cable. Thanks eversomuch for working to keep these old songs and traditions alive. They're fading fast. Hopefully, the younger set will start appreciating them.
Looks like Matt is playing what Pete Seeger calls the basic strum, which has been around long before Pete or his grandfather. Nice style of playing of though. This works is one has difficulty in learning how to frail banjo.
I'd also love to know what the tuning is he is using. As a new banjo player, it would be helpful. My 1 year old loves this video. I have been playing this for her since she was 3 months old, and know she totally recognizes it
What do you mean by conventional clawhammer? Different regions have had varying styles of clawhammer and now alot of those techniques have spread everywhere. Matt's style reminds me Stringbean
I would go get myself an autoharp. It fits with this style of music and was used by Sara Carter. it does have around 26 strings but you just hold down the buttons which will form a chord then you strum. It's that easy

I think this area of youtube attracts the kind of people the world needs more of. No dislikes no unpleasant comments.
Hilarious but incredibly ignorant statement.
I disliked something but I forgot what it was. Thank you Brother Kasbian, Brother Kinman and Brother Green.

What a beautiful version of this civil war song
Thanks Matt for a very enjoyable post. I love that driving rhythm and you are blessed with a very pleasant voice. A great song too.
Mannn you’re good! Playing and singing both are so pleasant. I Would love to hear more of your music.
I absolutely love this version. I’ve trended my rendition of this song towards Matt Kinman’s up-picking style. Thanks for the video and thanks Matt. 🪕
kinman beautiful as always

This pairs nicely with the Setiva variety; for those who are wondering.
joy
Love u
If anyone has been able to crack the tuning it would be great to hear from you. Double C or Triple C that is the burning question!
gCGCC
I am pretty sure he tunes to straight gCGCD for that song.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo I think he plays it same tuning as you fCFAC
amazing
You've done it again, sir. Great vid. And fine playing and singing from the man. What style of banjo pluckery is this?
who took this? nice lighting
How does he do that ?? :-)
I wonder if one of those banjos is his majorin banjo, and the other is his minorin banjo 😅😅
Love this. Any idea what tuning Matt's using? Or whether his he's using a right hand technique other than conventional clawhammer?

***** I believe Matt is using an "up picking" style.
@@danworry ... search earlier comments. A person named “Name” asked that question and Clifton Hicks answered.
I want to learn this one. Where can I find the words?
What's a good instrument solution for people who don't have the finger dexterity to pick anything like a guitar or a banjo?
Drum? Harmonica?

Late to the party, sorry, but both very good suggestions. Thanks.
Really nice man, how are you playing this? Sounds clawhammery but can't follow your right hand at all
Clawfingering?.
Uppicking!
what are the chords?
