Thanks, Ashley for sharing your growing tips. One question. I spray my plants with standard alcohol for mearly bugs. (More than just a few. ) Should I then rinse off the alcohol? Some of my thin leafed hoyas seem to dry out after being sprayed while the thicker leaves don't seem to kind! Thanks.
I find those water meteors aren’t great doesn’t work 100 percent. I find the best way to avoid is your soil mix and clear pots are great to monitor when needs watering. Also plants that need constant moist soil using pon and non draining is the best or self watering pots. I like potting my plants straight away after purchasing them as the soil that comes in is horrible soil or just peat that is being used. And i treat them aswell use preventative products. And clean the leaves. I do struggle more over the winter. Since you have the heating on not much sunlight and airflow. And occasionally is when mealybugs can appear on your plants. And also more fungus gnats aswell.
Here is an advice: if you don’t want plants to die, have always some fluval stratum ready to put a plant into in case she has root rot or anything happens to her. Some of my plants have resuscitated more than once in it. Also have always sphagnum moss and if a plant is too hard for you to keep happy, grow her in a clear vase with moss. Moss is much easier to care for. And also coco chips are great to always have on hand. Good fertilizer of course and other amendments. Don’t expect a plant to do well in the soil you buy her at the big box store or the nursery.
Thank you for sharing such helpful information! I would like to add that the mosquito bits are a type of beneficial nematode. Happy planting!
