Love the Borrego! Mine is a base model V6, but she's a great driver. Just did the rear shocks (you can run 96-02 4Runner suspension), headlights, and I'm half done with the passenger CV Axle. 190K on the odo, I can't wait to put the 200K sticker on the rear window.
That’s awesome man!! When I have to do the rear shocks I’m definitely doing the 4Runner suspension. I see a lot of guys commenting that they have done that. I appreciate you watching and if you remember let me know when you hit that 200k mark! That’s a big one 🤜🤛
I own a Borrego EX V6 and my wife the Borrego Limited V8. While working in Africa, I owned a 2012, 2014 and 2015 Mohave (same model) with the V6. They are great and very reliable. In Africa they were much better than the Ford Explorers and because Kia were unknown, no one would steal them. I wish they sold the new Mohave in the US
The new Mohave’s look really really nice. I’d rather them over here then the sorento. I’m glad you’ve had great luck with yours as well! Thanks for watching!!
I bought my V6LX in 2012. My 14 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo had just experienced its last gasp and I needed to get to Fl from ME in 2 weeks time. I had noticed a SUV for sale about a mile up the road for several weeks so I hoofed it up there to check it out. The owner and I took it for a spin and I was impressed enough to buy it on the spot. I’m still driving it and it hasn’t lost a bit of power and has never dripped any fluids. It handled Maine winters without any problems. I’m in NC now and the AC is still as cold as it was when I bought it. A great 5* vehicle.
Thanks Robert for sharing your experience! I hear more stories like yours and that makes me so happy! It truly is a great vehicle and a TRUE suv. Capable of most things and very reliable. I hope it lasts you for years to come! Again thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
Yeah the borrego has held up great! 13 yrs old and just keeps ticking along. No major repairs or anything yet 🤞. And the telluride is great for the family. It’s a very popular vehicle as well so parts in the future should be easier to get. It’s nothing fancy but we really like it. Thanks for watching buddy! I hope you and the family are doing well!
I have 2 2010 Ex V6, and after 250K on each of them, they're still going great, what a nice reliable SUV, and you can get those for much cheaper than a used 4Runner.
My favorite review! I just pick up a silver two tone V8 model for $3k with no problems. Was looking up parts, interesting fact, the v8 model uses the same transmission as a Rolls Royce Droptop Phantom! 337hp 323lb ft of torque I’d love to tune it up! This truck checked all the boxes! 📦 V8 👍, third row👍, near 20mpg 👍, reliable 👍, $3k 👍, trailer hitch 👍, I could keep going. My first car was a 98 Lincoln Town Car as well! Great vehicles!
I’m glad you enjoyed the review! I hope you enjoy the borrego just as much! And I did not know that about the transmission. That makes this vehicle even more unique. It also uses a good bit of gm parts. And the v8 motor was what they initially used in Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis. Not sure where you live but having this up north is great in the winter time as well. It’s a true suv which I like and the 4wd system is cool since it’s automatic but you can switch to 4h or 4l on the fly and the hill assist is awesome as well. I hope you get many years out of the rig. Congratulations on your purchase Danny! And thanks for watching!
Thanks! And gas mileage isn’t the best. It’s 15 city 20 highway. But it’s pretty accurate cause I get about 14.7 in city and a little over 20 on highway. Thanks for watching!
@@themaintenanceman1 thanks for responding. I guess the V6 would have a little bit better MPG in real life . I'm thinking about test driving one. Though most are from 140k miles or above in my area. Would you recommend a high mileage Borrego?
@@CasualnRandom so I originally had the vs ex version and got rear ended and it was totaled buy insurance but it handled the wreck so well I bought this one. The v6 gets 16/21. So honestly I think the v8 is a better pick if you can find one. I am in a Kia borrego club on Facebook and many owners have both v6 and v8 versions well into the 200k club and most are over 150k and not to many problems at all with them. And lots of people seem to work on there own. It’s an amazing TRUE SUV. The downside is they only made it one year here in the states. And they do still make it today so maybe parts will get hard to find in the future. That hasn’t been the case so far with important parts but aftermarket parts have pretty much dried up on them. So yes I would feel comfortable buying one with 140000 miles. But the age of them now and getting parts in the future definitely might be a problem. So those are just some things to consider. But knock on wood so far nothing major on mine has gone and it still runs great. We have emissions and inspection here in Pennsylvania and it passed no problems again this year. I think if something major does break on it I’ll get something else and if not I’ll hold on to it for my kids to beat up when they first start driving. I hope this helps. Any other questions just let me know.
So my borrego is the v8 and there is no transmission dipstick. It’s supposed to never need changed. That being said on Facebook I’m in a Kia borrego car club group and I’ve seen people buy a new transmission pan that comes with a filler neck so you can have the dip stick. Me personally I have 120,000 miles on the vehicle and I’ve had it flushed twice by the dealership “I actually really trust my Kia dealer. Been going there for almost 20 yrs now. I’d say that’s the best route I believe it was 120$ last time I got it done. Anyways I hope that helps
I found this while searching the Borrego forums: "Ah yes, the A5SR2 transmission. Unfortunately, it’ll need to be disconnected from the transmission mount and lowered a few inches to have access to the fill plug, located on the right side of the case. Unfortunately, 90% of the American A5SR2s came with no dipstick built into the pan. The easiest way to work around this is to buy the OEM transmission pan, with the dipstick, and then buy the extension tube separately and then buy the dipstick itself." Transmission Oil Pan Number 45280-4C000
Yes they did. They where a big name when I was little. I also had a marantz receiver that was great. I’ve been in cars with Bose, Harmon karwhatever, and the levinson but I’d take this all day long over those. Radio is important for me. Thanks for watching buddy! I hope your new life is going well!

Telluride for the win. Great pick boss
Thanks brotherman!! It’s no classics like you got but for a kid bus it ain’t to shabby. 🤜🤛
Seems like the Borrego was a good car, hopefully the Telluride serves you just as well. I see lots of them in my area and people seem to like them.

I bet duel exhaust would sound awesome on the Borrego 👍
Definitely would! But at this point I’ll just leave it stock. It will be a rare car soon lol.

Which ones got the better ac though lol
Lol both acs work great! But the telluride has the cooling seats which is nice once you get use to it lol
